WASHINGTON, April 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- House Republican leaders will introduce a resolution today calling for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) to unveil the "commonsense plan" to lower gas prices she promised almost two years ago, House Republican Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.) said.
"As the price of gas climbs higher, it looks like the Democratic plan to bring down prices was another of their empty campaign promises," Blunt said. "If the Democrats have a plan, the American people have a right to know what it is. And today, House Republicans are putting forward legislation calling on the Speaker to make public her strategy once and for all. Americans have been feeling the pain of the Pelosi Premium for far too long, and while Democrats put forward legislation proclaiming this the 'Year of the Reef,' Republicans are going to fight to make it a 'Year of Relief' for American families."
On April 24, 2006, then-Minority Leader Pelosi announced that, "Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices" - back when a gallon of regular gasoline averaged $2.91. Today, with gas at $3.53 and marching steadily toward $4, Speaker Pelosi and this Democratic majority have yet to reveal that plan - or any plan - that would bring down the price of gasoline. The only proposals they have brought forth, Blunt said, would have actually raised gas prices by placing erroneous taxes on gas and oil companies, while refusing to allow for the responsible development of US energy resources.
In addition to introducing today's legislation, House Republicans will force floor votes addressing the record cost of gasoline -- and invite Democrats to join them in requesting their leadership address the concerns of American families.
When Speaker Pelosi took the gavel on January 4, 2007, the average price of a gallon of gas was $2.33 - a practical bargain, Blunt said, compared to the $3.53 national average this morning, according to the American Automobile Association.
The House Resolution gives Speaker Pelosi five days - in addition to the two years that have already elapsed - to fulfill her long-awaited promise to lower gas prices.

Besides the Arabs Americans pay the lowest for gas so what are you guys complaining about??Go to Europe where gas can cost 8-10$ a gallon.Seems everyone complains about the price of gas well do something about it.Dont drive that SUV or hummer go buy a small car.Drive less,the price of gas is based on the free market and until demand goes down your government cant do anything about the price of gas only the taxes it charges on gasoline.There are other solutions you just have to tell the car companies that you want them.There are even cars that run on air for gods sake,but until people start buying alternatives or demanding alternatives to the combustion engine then things wont change.....

My wife was driving a GMC Yukon Denali with a 6.0L V8 all the way up until 2008, now she drives a Honda Prelude. We're still complaining about gas. Got any other suggestions? Or do you just find it necessary to attempt to refute EVERYTHING posted by Psycho? :wtf:

What you seem to forget is the fact it was your guys that fucked the whole country up in the first place. Now you want to rail on the democrats for not stopping the insanity? i second this, its the republicans brought prices so high. its the republicans that went invading other countries to help bring prices higher. its the republicans that give oil companies tax breaks. its the government that gives the oil companies millions/billions for subsadies

MrClandestine im not refuting anything that Pyscho has to say here im just saying that the government has very little say on the price of gas so if people want change then they have to change the way they live basicly.My wife drives to work in a Saturn and i ride my bike to work.If i could by a plug in electric car i would maybe in the next 5 years youll be able too.Then i would buy solar panels to fuel up my plug in car which u can buy at your local hardware store.....

Hows this for a beginning of a plan...
The price of oil/gas is effecting our food prices which is bringing all the more crunch to the U.S. wallet.
-Let's give the truckers a government subsidy of $2.25/gal when they fuel their trucks.
-The stations turn over the weekly receipts to the feds for their $2.25 rebates.
-When the "breadbasket" of the world (the U.S.) exports food to oil nations we then tack on an additional "foriegn trade tax" that would cover for the truckers subsidy.
It's alot easier for a nation to cut back on its luxury oil usage than it is for another to cut back on eating. I guess it could be called "Food For Oil"....LOL!:thumbsup:

Pelosi is a prime example (besides Murtha, ick) of why the U.S.A congress has a lower approval rating than good Ol' George W. Bush.
Republicans are the ones that are trying to open up oil drilling in the U.S.. It seems every damn Democrat has jumped on the Al Gore bandwagon.

P4B thats a good idea but its going to cost the government a shitload of cash and as far as recuping the money through a food tax on exports well i dont think that will fly mainly because it will cost jobs because if you put a heavy tax on exports of food other countries will go looking for food elswhere.There is no solution because oil will keep going up in prices because of demand.Until we start demanding a different form of transportation then nothing will change.

How does having control of the Senate give the Democrat party the power to manipulate OPEC? ESPECIALLY in a country that is controlled by and have the power veto bestowed upon REPUBLICANS?

Where the emphasis to gain independence from fossil fuels?
That's what I want to see, not a plan to tamper with the operation of the free market. We seen enough with the Iraq war. Bush severely miscalculated on using the war as an economic stimulus, not anticipating the subprime mess that's stifling the economy.
The current gas price should be a message to put emphasis on public transportation and developing alternate technologies such making hydrogen-powered cars more reliable and cheaper, a plan to implement a network of gas stations based on this technology. Stop sticking with the status quo, it's time to move away from oil & gasoline.

You got me wrong my friend. I don't think that the Senate, Congress OR the President can really do anything to OPEC. I'm just saying that we need to control our own food costs which is being drivin' up by the price of gas to the truckers. Give the truckers a break and pass along the expense to others that need OUR product like we need the oil/gas.
Who knows if it would work or not but we need to do something drastic real fast. I know the dems plan to add additional taxes to the oil companies isn't the answer.
