IS ALL LOST?
GUYS I REALLY NEED ADVICE......WOKE UP THIS MORNING ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE TIMER DID NOT WORK AS IT SHOULD......NORMALLY IT SHOULD TURN OFF THE LIGHTS AT 9AM.....I WOKE UP AT 1:30 PM.....I FINALLY MANAGED TO TURN OFF LIGHTS AT 2PM....THIS MEANS THAT THE LADIES GOT 5 HRS MORE LIGHT THAN THAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO.....WHAT SHOULD I DO? IN TWO HRS TIME THE LIGHTS WILL BE UP AGAIN. THEY WILL HAVE GOT ONLY A 7 HRS DARK PERIOD....WILL THAT TURN THEM INTO HERMIES? I FEEL VERY STUPID AS I FEEL THAT I WAS CARELESS....IN TWO DAYS I FINISH WEEK 2 OF FLOWERING.....SHOULD I WORRY OR NOT? :(

it may cause some minor problems in bud development, but as long as the problem is fixed and the timer works from now on you should be fine.

IS ALL LOST?
all i care right now is that they don't turn into hermies....when you say that there may be problems in bud development what do you mean?
-
IS ALL LOST?
I have done that once as well, and I got no hermies. It would be bad if the light came on after more than 1 hour of dark, but in your case the light was just extended. I think that you will be ok.

you'll be fine...
it happens to us all once in a while (actually i can't recall any grows where there wasn't a timer or light prob of some sort) and i've yet to have probs later either.

IS ALL LOST?
i don't think you have to worry about any hermies. by "minor problems in bud development" i ment maybe a stunt in their growth at most, due to confusing the plant's prossess. you should be fine.

IS ALL LOST?
oh guys, am i glad that i read those replies above? after the incident i had yesterday with the timer, i feel much more relieved right now....i've read this thread started by Marimbas link : http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?t=13333 and somehow now i can understand what i've read from Dutch Passion a few months ago, an article about feminised seeds and a test they have made here's the link : http://www.dutch-passion.nl/engels/female.html Check paragraph numbered 1....it all makes sense to me right now......thank you all for replying to my question....i checked the ladies 30 mins ago and they seem fine.....looking good healthy & strong......two of them are approaching 3 ft tall...the rest are minimum 1 foot and maximum 2-2 1/2 ft tall....all females.....can't wait for the flowers :)
thanx again people

hi newgrower, what timing device are you using, is it a plugin type, if so mate you got to get a more powerfull one, those plugin types just hang on, there not designed to take the surge of a ballest as it lights up,i had the same prob, i now use the same one that deals with my central heating, not sure of its name right now but there easily available at all plumbers or electricle shops, there not to expensive but priceless if you need to be away from your girls and cant be there to turn em off, relax bro, im sure those ladys will be fine, at worst it may just slow them for a day or two, i am not sure how to get pics on here or i will show ya what i meen, happy growing mate

IS ALL LOST?
the timing device i'm using is an analog timer that can handle up to 3500w......i fixed the problem however.....it seems (still can't figure it out, how it happened) that the button that was in the side of the timer was set to continuous power on, thus, bypassing the timer....now it is working properly.....thank god....i check them everyday that lights go on and off properly , just in case......

i tink i know the type your using, i am still not sure if its the correct type, you can bypass the timer so that it dont take the surge and simply swiches the neutral, just be care full mate, i have seen those things cook, just when you think everything looks ok the bastards hang on and dont turn off or on when there suposed to, i think there prob ok for florrys cos they dont pull to much power, are you running a balest, what light system are you using, be luckey

i use a 400 hps light.....in two days i will have one more added for extra light.....the timer is supposed to handle up to 3.5kw.....with the second one will have a total of 836 watts (i added two 18 watt fluoros yesterday)....anyway all seems ok now....don't really know what happened to be honest....it doesn't matter now as i wake up some 30 mins before the lights go off....that's right....somehow without even an alarm clock no matter when i went to sleep, i wake up just to make sure everything works in perfect order....they look great, i am eager for my second light to come....i ordered a 400 watts SHP-TS, they are supposed to be super rich in red/orange, extremely useful for flowering only....i will have a total of 836 watts over an area of 18sq ft(estimate)covered by 8 ladies (4 are 2 1/2-3 1/2 ft) (the other 4 are around one foot-1 1/2 ft)...that's near the optimal level of 50 watts/sqft.....sorry for the long talk....i'm so excited for my first grow and can't wait to see the buds forming......i hope that the timer will take the load.....if it gets too hot maybe i will use one of my computer fans blowing air at max speed on it....that's all i can do :) .....if everything goes well in that grow and i manage to produce around a pound or something close, for next grow i will have another two 400 hps at my disposal and everything will be digital-from timers to ph meters......enough said, have a good day ppl :)

sure thing new grower, i started with a 400 hps, it worked great i am sure ya gonna have some quality smokes soon mate, i know i was so exsited with my first grow, are you keeping a record of all that you are doing and have done, i do know that you will wanna do this time and time again and keeping a good log of your achievments will be very importent when it comes to experimenting latter on.especialy when ya start to cross plants, i got a masive buzz out of doing my own crosses, when i smoked for the first time my own plants that i had crossed it was just a brill feeling, you will make tons of mistakes mate we all do, but the best thing you can do is to learn by them, some mistakes can be costley to ya crop, i have had to throw away complete grows, cos i made a mistake, nothing more sick mate than throwing ya stash away i can say. i dont sell any of my gear, i need it i am disabled, i have been growing for about ten years mate, i aint the best of growers, but i know enough to get me out of trouble, if i can help ya in any way just let us know, its cool to share ya knowledge peace man

IS ALL LOST?
well, thanx a lot.....the records i keep are over here in this site....this place has become my virtual growing diary...over here i post everything i do and have done so far....i really value the suggestions and opinions of the members here....there are many wise people writting in this forum and that makes it a great place to visit and be part of it....the feedback i get is really helpful....as for the mistakes....the gratest mistake i did so far, is, that i used cow manure into 5 out of 9 of my ladies right from the start.....for the other 4 i used soil that is special for flowering plants.....the result was that my 4 ladies (in the good soil) look like giants next to the other 5 (which i eventually reduced into 4)......one thing i did though, was to put the seeds into 2 gallon buckets straight away so as to avoid any problems with transplanting them.....i transplanted the plants that were into the cow manure and they have grown ever since.....i know it's hard, but this is my only mistake so far.....i haven't seen any problems with overwatering or overfertilising....so far i think i am doing good, they look good and happy.....the big ones have loads of branches and around 20+ tops/future bud sites each....i have trained all of them, tied them down and have not regret it at all.......i look forward for the new light to come.....soon i will post the new fotos of my garden.....i'm sooooooo excited..... :)
