Ok this is my second attempt at this...
This is my second grow. The first one was a disaster! I got a plant from the backyard of one of my buddies. I grew it in a giagantic rubermaid trash can. It turned out to be a male, but I grew that damn thing until it dropped pollen. And i must say they drop alot!
Which brings us to this thread. I am going to document my grow here to better help me understand Marijuana cultivation. Don't be afraid to tell me if I am doing anything wrong or am misinformed. I need the knowledge! Again this is for education of myself and any others that find useful information in this thread.
To start, my grow room is in my closet. the closet already had those wire shelves in there so I sectioned it off into two parts: A vegitative part and a "dark room" part. The vegitative side has one floruesent tube at 40 w and one soft white CFL. the sides of the shelves have cardboard up to keep light in. (I know cardboard is not the most reflective material but its what i had!) The back of the closet is flat white so it helps with reflectivness.
The "dark room" is on the other side of the vegitative part. And it is made simply with black contractor trash bags. covering every area light could get in.
i have 2 plants in flowering (both K-town; whatever that means maybe just home grown shwag?) and the other 2 (Shwag)are in vegitative mode.
I take the time to transfer my two flowering plants in and out of the dark room every 12 hours. Because I do not have the money to buy more lights for the "dark room". but that will be fixed on the 15th when i get paid.
My plan is to set up a cloning area within the vegitative side and also to put a hydroponic system on both the vegitative and "dark room" side. hopefully after i get some bills paid I am going to buy one of those new LED grow lights. I think that this is the perfect solution for someone who is light on space, and ventilation issues.
we'll see how well it works. I can't be any worse than the CFLs that I am currently growing with.
here are some pics, I think that the 4th one is a female. but since i have never grown a female plant it is only suspiction. please let me know what you think...

more pictures... I love taking them! what do you think of the last one? could it also be a female? And the second one is of the plant I think is female why are her leaves drooping? could it be because she's flowering or what?

Ok so just an update...
Im on day 8 of flowering cycle. And the plant i was thinking was a female has developed 2 sacks (?) right below the flower, on the 1st node from the top of the plant. Im hoping in my inexperience that this is just the caylayx. maybe? or maybe its a hermie! :(
I had the appraiser at my house and had to hide my babies. I hope that taking them out of light and back into it didn't stress it out too much.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Not sure about the sex. You will find out for sure in plenty of time to remove.
I think they will need some fresh air in your "dark room" I like your creativity here, but that would be my concern, especially if the closet is getting warm with your veg lights next to the dark room.

well I think I have my answer...
I continued the 12/12 cycle and the plant i thought was a female turned out to be a male!:( little sacks are starting to pop up. I've got a few more plants though. So hopefully one of them will be a female.

Males tend to show first. So the longer they go without showing sex, the better chance they are female. And if you are one of those folks who mixes tobacco with their weed, try using male instead. Heck, you grew it, why not use it? Doesn't change the flavor, adds a bit of THC and won't give you cancer!:D
I'm "California legal" and grow my own, so I don't have to stretch my weed any more. Now, the males go into brownies or canna-oil.

Well after a little more waiting I am positve that one of my plants is a male. the other one is just starting to show sex and i can't exactly tell what sex it is. But im not going to let this get me down! I still have 2 plants in the vegitative stage. and i have 4 more seeds starting to pop their little heads out of the soil. I have to get at least one female from all these seeds!
One question about my 2 ladies in vegitative though: when I Lst'ed them, one of the plants main stems cracked. I let the plant repair itself for a week or so and it seems to be doing fine. how long should i wait before flowering this stressed plant?
Pictures 1&2 are the male flowered at 12 days. Picture 3&4 are of the other plant that is just starting to show sex. and picture 5 is of my 4 little girls starting to pop out.

Bummer on the male. Hopefully you are left with nothing but girls now.
On the broken stem, it may end up helping with your flowering stage, kind of like going from a 2 lane road to a 4 lane highway. Hope so!

cede2weed, maybe you shined some kind of luck upon me!
Of the two plants i originally put into 12/12 one quickly showed its balls! The other took some time and caressing and finally popped pistils everywhere!:rasta: I was so excited when i saw it! :D
Since then I have also put the other two plants into flowering And one of them is shooting out some pistils also.
After I got paid I went out and got more CFL lights and 2 t5 tubes, one blue one red. I've got the t5 tubes on the seedlings and all the cfl's (5 in all.)
I also sealed the flowering side much better! No more light leaks. ever again.
And went to the hydro shop and got some nutrients which my plants seem to love! I got Pure Blend Pro Bloom and liquid Karma. Pictures!..
Oh and I also built a DWC/drip system for one of my plants. well see how it turns out.

Excellent news. Looking good, too. Can't wait to see how the bubbler works for you. Considering some type of non-dirt grow next time myself.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

My DWC grow is kind of a mix of soil and hydro. I couldn't bring myself to try and separate the roots from the soil. so I took a net pot and lined the inside of it with rockwool. and then put my plant (soil and all) into the net pot and into the DWC. so far its doing really good. I looked at the water last night and noticed that the roots are starting to grow out the bottom. so i must be doing something right!
My female is starting to look gorgeous. everytime i look at her i almost dread the fact that i have to eventually cut her down! but i know that one day it must be done!

lol, that very thought has led me to read several of the re-veggin threads here. Just seems like eating your young to chop something you have put so much love into. :rasta:

okay so week 4 is tomorrow. but the title will work for taday as well.
Only a couple of updates today...
I got 5 more cfl lights in the flowering side last night. and 2 new 2400 lumen cfls. it brought the temps up into the mid 80's so. i had to jimmy rig a ventillation system in a short amount of time. but i think i came up with a good solution.
Plants are looking great:smokin:
my dwc set up is performing right above my expectations. plants in there looks better and better every time i see it.
My oldest girl is looking pretty excellent i must say with the amount of lights she was sharing. she should be happy with the rest of the lights i put in there for her.
More later...

My female turned its little back on me and got her some balls!
I went home from work last night only to discover that a couple of them had even opened up! So i took an hour out of my time and gingerly cut every last testicle from that bitch! never again will she try to cut my heart out like that again!

oh man sorry i missed it. I saw a couple pics back that it was a hermie, and in the last pic in pic one it looks like it went hermie. too bad you missed it before it came. I had one of my 2 first flowering girls turn herm on me, but I pulled her in time. I'd rather lose the plant and have my other safe. Hopefully she still fills out nice and you can keep the hermies down. Look into dutchmaster reverse, i've never used it but people here seem to love it.
