What do you do for a living?
I was wondering what you guys do for a living? It seems that almost all decent jobs now days require drug testing and random drug testing, and I was curious what kind of jobs you fellow marijuana smokers have. It almost seems like if you want to have a good life and make a decent amount of money, you have to quite toking. What do you guys think, honestly.

I'm a full time student. I'm trying to become a teacher (majoring in History). But I'm also going to start taking Dental Assisting classes so I can make some extra cash ont he side. As most teachers start as subs and thats not always full time. It's nice to have something to fall back on.
So no drug tests for me.

I'm work in the restaurant industry. I like my job and have plans to open my own place, probably a diner, in the future.
Working with food has always been a haven for those that use illegal substances. There's kind of a ongoing joke that if food service started drug testing they would have no cooks left.

Self-employed. Freelance writer, private contractor, village idiot.
(Still trying to figure out how to get paid for that last one.)
Anyway, fuck drug testing. That's the reason I started working for myself, and I never plan to look back.

Lab manager... some days you're the scientist... some days you're the rat. Today, I feel an irresistible urge to gnaw electric cords. It's gonna be a looooong week.
Garden consultant... this is where my heart is at, teaching others techniques for sustainable lifestyles that rely heavily on home-grown food, and, of course, medicine. I intend one day to open a B&B that offers weekend workshops in subsistence-level food production.

Bukowski:
"I'm an interior decorator"
Woman's response:

Off topic for the thread, but anyway...
Last week I visited a "Market Garden" or "Market Farm" --- basically a one- or two-acre farm that grows crops for local farmer's markets and local specialty restaurants. The guy who is running it grows only heirloom varieties selected for exceptional flavor, not for high production or the ability to trasnport. He's committed to local food production. He's following organic practices but hasn't bothered getting certified because of the cost.
I was there with a group to see the composting operation, which is the key to his success. They make some big, hot piles! We helped them construct a pile that was roughly 5 or 6 feet on a side and at least 5 feet high. They rely on some amount of volunteer work and "work share" arrangements, so I will probably go back a few times in the summer for their Friday harvest parties, which they do before Saturday farmers' markets. You get paid in veggies. So, if this thread is about what you do for a living, I guess I'm one of those guys who will work for food. Ha ha!
So anyway, Stinky, if you set up your B&B, I will definitely come out for a weekend workshop. As a special gift to you, I will build you a "hot pile." And I'm thinking maybe you should try to set your place apart by offerring an upgrade to B&B&B --- Bed and Breakfast and Bongload.
Now, back to the thread. Up until about a year ago, I was a technical writer, doing mostly software documentation. Now I am an unemployed guy who posts on canncom, does projects around the house, does "house elf" duties such as laundry and grocery shopping and gardening, pursues interests, works for food, and attempts to decide what career to follow next. It's been a great year.

I think I can get you a consulting position at the B&B... Yuppies with blue license plates (CT, NY, RI) who head north to the mountains on weekends tend to have a bit of spare cash kicking about here and there... :D

I'm a Registered Nurse, but I'm on SSD at the present time, and probably will stay on it. I can't practice with MMJ anyway. Between SSD and LTD I do pretty darn good. I am still licenced. (Unless they see this and figure out who I am. LOL!) Sometimes I do miss it though. ;)

In high school I was part of ROP, and did alot of work maintaining the school infrastructure and website. I was recruited by the local Geek Squad at 16, and worked there until I was 18. I got the majority of my certs while working there. They paid for my A+, Network+, Security+, and my first few MCPs.
After I got tired of working a retail-type job, I quit and got hired at Kaiser. I met some good contacts there, and also finished up my MCSE. I eventually got promoted up to a site lead, and started making pretty decent money. I liked my job, but it was alot of hours. The drive was killing me (over 300 miles a day), and so was the big-business red tape bullshit. I decided that if I stayed at that job, I would send my self to a stress-induced early grave. I gave my 2 weeks without even having another job lined up. I had some money saved up, and started collecting unemployment for about 4 weeks.
Shortly after I quit, I realized that the money was on the sales side, not technical. I took my contacts that I made at Kaiser, and took a job with this company. It was really tough at first. I was young, and had almost no experience on the sales side. Both of those were really working against me. Luckily, I have a really strong technical background, and that helped give me some credibility with clients. Its all about getting your name out there, making contacts, and building relationships.

After I was honorably discharged from the military I alway sought jobs that didn't involve testing. I was a cook, cab driver, auto parts saleman. Now I'm working at a service station.
Have never had to provide a sample sinse 1988 and feel strongly against it.

i work full time at the moment, i work in retail, in a dog wash, its cool, i can make tips, and i really dont even have to wash dogs, i just have to clean up after other people wash their jobs, and my boss is atleast once was a confirmed toker, not sure about him anymore, but hes cool with it, the only problem is i think he can tell if i come in high. I got him and the assistant manager turned on to radiohead. I was a student last semester, but i took a semester off because i stopped going to class completely and i wasnt getting paid cause my boss thought i was in school, but i work 8 hour days, 5 days a week, and its not so bad, especially after getting paychecks.
