the reason for the shallow soil
as the plant grows i will top it up
allowing for some stretch
arnt you worried about them becoming root bound with the shallow pot?
ill be watching! :rastasmoke:
they'll be going in bigger pots after a few weeksQuote:

Are you worried about stagnant air in there? I hear some bad things can start up like that.Quote:

I think it might be better if you pick a smaller pot for now (like dixie cups with holes) and bring the soil more level to the top of the cup/pot, and then transplant when you need to. From what I understand, while transplanting is something that has some risk to it if not done properly, it's something necessary at some point and can be extremely beneficial as long as you plan it right and do it right.
Starting off your seedlings, they're in a very clean soil right? Well they'll start growing and need nutrients from different and new soil right? So wouldn't you rather transplant out of a smaller container into a larger one with better/more appropriate soil for your plants age once they start growing and are needing more nutrients and aren't seedlings anymore?
the pots are near full now
just the first few days the soil is low
the best way is to post a pic in a few days to show you
i understand where your commin from ;)
i reckon the roots will grow right up too them first 2 round leaves
before and after pics
also when the seed has germinated i just put the shoot in a hole in the soil and rest the seed on the top
only because sometimes the thing dont sprout overwise
anyone else tried this methodQuote:

But I do bury the seed, under a layer of soil as deep as the seed is thick. Don't want air pruning (drying-out the fine roots) before she even gets started.
update: still babies !
excuse the plant food on me foot :wtf:
nice u got any pics of ur grow area?
What are you using as a light source? Judging from the stretching, and seeing that after nearly two weeks you're just starting on your second pair of leaves, I think you might want to consider adding another light or two to the fray. It's difficult for seedlings to get an even distribution of light when using larger pots right from the start. Starting seedlings out in smaller, shallower pots will allow you to direct more life-giving light over a smaller area.
For seedlings, I prefer to use 4" pots, and just keep them lit with 4-23w CFLs for the first week. The seedlings in the pic below are only on their fourth day from popping out of the soil. In another couple of days, I'll throw a 400w MH into the mix, and they'll really start to take off. Soon after that, they'll be rootbound and ready to go into slightly larger pots, where they'll reside throughout the rest of veg.
thanks or the concern :)
but their only 1 week old, in 2-3 days they'll go under a 400w hps
the added pics where grown the same way, but these do seem slower
white rhino's below
Awesome man! I hope I didn't come across as condescending, as this definitely wasn't my intention. I also thought they were a bit older than they are, so please accept my humble apologies for jumping the gun. ;) And those Rhino's look great! You can't see it too well in my picture, but I've got a newly rooted White Rhino clone in the top right corner. Planning on making a mother out of her.Quote:
