Possible mold on mah stash!

Well, I found a stash of a friend of mine that appears to be molded, but I am not completely sure. I have run into this kind of smell/texture before with weed, but then I wasnt sure either.

Theres not an obvious mold growing, but the surface texture is different than most weed and the smell is either moldy, or really strong. I say the smell can be compared to a chlorine-like smell. It also breaks up really odd, very stiff and stringy, and kinda hard.

I need help. Ive smoked a little bit of it, and I got pretty high, but I want to know what you guys think. Do you think its moldy?

If that's something you bought recently, I'd definitely inform the person that you got it from. That kind of shit definitely does not need to be in circulation. I've known of several people who smoked moldy buds, and they didn't develop any pneumonia or mutant appendages (at least, not to my knowledge)... but I wouldn't recommend ingesting any more of it.

Well, I'm no pro... but you don't really need to be a pro to know that smoking the stuff in that picture could potentially be bad for you. All you need is a pair of eyeballs, and common sense.

I cannot tell from the picture... no obvious mold

However, if you are worried, make Green Dragon or something is what I have heard recommended before.

Moldy brownies do not sound very pleasant, but perhaps stomach acid is enough protection from this mold?

That actually looks like its really old weed.I definitely wouldn't smoke it. But it still might make some good green dragon. Thats what I do with any moldy weed.

but seriously that weed is pretty much useless.I personally wouldn't smoke it.But I've seen moldy weed made into bubble or ice hash.(but it was good Genetics though,maybe purple kush?)

You can see some fuzzy stuff on the bud on the second picture, looks like mould to me.. Dosent look like the best of bud to be honest, looks really old and pretty much looks like shit.. sorry dude, but you should try make some hash out of it or bin it.. :jointsmile:

Dude.. I wouldnt touch that stuff. I have kinda sensitive lungs tho (haha, its awesome for a pot head), and they get real sensitive to mold and pollen and junk. Oh, and even if you 'burn' the mold, Legalize, it can still release spores which *will* get into your lungs and can be very compromising for your health. You see that stuff alot in people whose houses have burned down, they go to pick out whatever didnt get completely ruined and wind up with nasty lung infections from all the burnt mold and chemicals and ickiness.

Id toss it, or save it thru some green dragon, but no no smoking

yeah man, that does not look right at all, it looks pretty moldy, and really old... I wouldnt smoke it. perhaps the green dragon suggestion, but I've never made that before so I dunno how that'd work out... personally I'd feel wierd ingesting anyhing made from weed that looked that moldy.

the amount of carsonegens and CHEMICALS from a house fire would be much much greater then from a bud that had some crap growin in it i smoked a moldy bud last week should i go get my lungs checked for mold to prove my point? i dont think thats worth it i duno why im still thinkin bout this now u got me paranoid maybe its infected my brain lmao ive heard of people cutting honey oil with black trash bags and look at that soap bar crud they smoke in europe im sorry if im wrong but thats my experiance with mold buds n im done talkin now

Bro, it's not exactly a great idea to chill with a house fire blazing all around you, just breathing in the carcinogens. Normally, most sane people would realize that they needed to get the hell out of this environment, and get to fresh air.

The point is, there are more risks posed by smoking moldy buds than there are by smoking non-moldy buds. This shouldn't be an issue, it should be common sense. Hell, just the act of igniting buds and inhaling the smoke isn't good for you. Compound that little tidbit with the fact that the buds are covered in some nasty moldy shit, and you might just have yourself a problem. Lots of folks in this thread offered alternatives, and the general consensus is NOT to smoke moldy buds. Don't take it as a personal attack, take it as advice for you and your buddy who have been smoking this shit, too. Don't tell people to research it on the internet, because common sense generally prevents people from questioning it in the first place. If you find a legitimate and reputable site that says smoking mold is not a problem, throw up a link. Until then, most everybody agrees that it's a bad idea.

And, don't get offended by this, but try to start throwing some periods and commas into these posts of yours. It makes it very difficult to read when every point you try to make just runs into one another. Punctuation almost always makes things seem more logical, which is generally a plus for whoever is flying off the handle.

Hahahaha, who likes respiratory infections? Better toke up and go buy some Mucinex and an inhaler. Just get a bottle of 151 or Everclear and save your lungs. Smoking any molded substance is bad news bears, whether tobacco or buds. After battling respiratory congestion from too much middies, I urge you to just make a tincture and be done with that bud.

i believe molds release harmful toxins as a way to fight other molds?
so if there were multiple molds on the bud, and you were to smoke it, you could potentially be inhaling those toxins.

wow, what a great subject. i just recently got 1 p of moldy weed, i was pissed. the dude dropped it down $300 for me because of how moldy it was.

shit had white and yellow molds on it, and smelled like cat piss, or some kind of cleaner. it was rock hard too.

but it looked like it used to be some high quality shit before getting old. it was light green, with crazy red and orange hairs all in it... cuz, one bowl of it would get u real baked

not sure if i was getting high off the thc or the mold though, haha.

anyway ... my cure for moldy weed is to put it in a couple of mason jars, go peel the skin off fresh oranges, throw the orange peels in with the weed in your mason jar. then close the lid and let set in a dark, cool spot for about 4 hours, and go check on it. make sure you let the buds dry properly before closing the lid on them again, otherwise you will just get more mold. after doing this a couple of times, your buds should be a lot softer, and have A LOT better smell, and A LOT better taste.

i mean if u have to get rid of it, just warn people its a bit moldy, and let them make their own decision. thats what i did, and people were actually choosing the moldy shit over the fresh, fruity tasting shit..just cuz the moldier shit got you way more stoned.

and after doing that too.. just hang on to that moldy batch...go get a new fresh batch, and just mix the 2 together.

haha what an interesting idea. I'll definitely think of that. I was actually thinking of doing some green dragon stuff cuz I have 80% pure orange extract. I've also smoked the weed a little more and it gets you realy fucked with gravity bong hits, but it tastes gross.

Legalize, Im actally talking about the mold really, not the chemicals and junk in a house fire. There are a lot of spores that can survive fire!! I live in prairie land, you would be amazed at the amount of grasses that seed only after a grass fire b/c they are built to withstand high heat. Its an evolutionary advantage, fire burns out the grass, the seeds only survive, they have free reign to take over the newly cleared and fertalized land.

Same shit goes with mold or fungus.. did you know that anthrax spores can survive over 100 years in desert sand? Only to come in contact with a small amount of water and then kill 100 rhinos. There is also a lot of new research in the field of fire ecology that explains a lot of this stuff. Anyway, Im getting sidetracked. :)

OK, in my post I already explained it: it's not the mold, or bacteria that hurts you, it's the toxins produced by them. The toxins are not alive, thus cannot be killed by the fire.

I don't even know where to being pointing out all the ignorant statements in this post.
But I'll try.

1- You are sucking air through the mass of bud in your joint or bowl and not every bit of what comes through has been exposed to the amount of heat needed for correct sterilization. Mold spores can, in fact, withstand quite high heat, and you are sucking them in along with the smoke.

2- Personal experience beats research hands down? Oh hahahaha this is priceless. That statement is so ignorant that the rest of your post(s?) just lost all credibility in my opinion. I'm a researcher in the field of public health and environmental health sciences... I strongly beg to differ lololololol

3- Forest floor 'dirt' is not the worst bunch of pathogens yer ever gonna be exposed to lol... BUT THAT'S WHY YOU COOKED YOUR FOOD!

4- The type of organism found in cheeses (penicillum is a common one... yeah... the stuff antibiotics are made from- and btw it's not mold, it's a BACTERIUM) is much different than the type found in bud (botyris)

5- Growers don't make hash from moldy buds. They make it from the trim saved from manicuring plants healthy enough to go to market. Any grower who uses moldy buds to make product is a scoundrel who needs a smack upside the dome. I THROW AWAY any bud with mold on it. There's some in my rubbish now if ya want to come pick through. It's somewhere between the old coffee grounds and the used tampons.

6- Good for you. I've crossed a divided highway on foot before and didn't happen to get run over. I've had sex in the shower and didn't break my neck. I've played with sticks and didn't poke someone's eye out. Keep at it though... it's only a matter of time.

This does not 'cure' moldy buds. You describe the curing process, but that's not what curing means. There's nothing WRONG with buds that are set to be cured.
