you ONLY keep a male plant if you plan on saving the pollen from the flowers it produces. the male plant dies after it drops all the pollen out. so what stage are you at in your male plant? just noticed the balls? ???
uh....im not realy sure, its my first plant and its on its 4th pair of leaves. but no flowers have came out . but does this mean it cant be grown and then smoked and get high? or is this just a big waste of time?
oh, i see, no need to worry. you are on your first four pair of leaves.... you are WAY early in the stage. are you using soil? hydroponics? i would say once the plant gets to about 8-10 inches tall, you can start to think about putting it into the flowering mode. which is 12 hours on and 12 hours off of light. what kind of light are you using. if you give all the details you can about your set up and all, then you'll get more responses on things that can help you.
you should be in the vegetative state now with at least 16 hours of light per day and 8 hours dark. no flowers will come until you put it in 12/12 mode. AFTER you move into the flowering stage, then you'll know if you have a female or male. you want a female, that is what you smoke, the female flower/bud. the male is just for the pollen, you can get high on the male leaves, but very very low grade. so NO it is not a waste of time, think of this as an experience, not just hurrying to get high. although that is the rewards.
alright thanx, yea its about a foot tall already and for now i only got a 100 wat lightbulb that u would use for ur living room, but tomorrow ima go buy the red and blue spectrum lights. i have it on a 16h light and 8h dark system.so ur saying once i put it on a 12h to 12h system it will start to flower?
and how can i tell if its a female or male?
yes, i would say about 7-10 days after you put it in 12/12, you'll start to see signs of gender. others will have pics or links for you to see the differences. but what you are looking for are small white hairs and that is a female, small round balls are a male and only good for it's pollen and some thc in the leaves before it dies.
thanx kuri, this helps alot.
but do i need to cut the growing tip off before i start flowering if i do how far do do i cut tha tip?
WTF
don't cut the tip.. what are you nuts? that's where all the plants energy goes...not to mention that'll be the biggest bud.
if you're doing it for the purpose of restricting the height .. then tie the top, don't cut it.
avoid cutting off the main cola at all costs!!
i know this is your first time and some of us may be animated... cutting off the top is one option and it may not be the best option. i don't have time to type, but if you go to google.com and search for the method called 'no stress training' on cannabis plants, (also called NST) that will help you ALOT on your bud size and all. please post back if you have not found any good info on NST. you can get ALOT more out of your plant and NOT have to cut it anywhere. take care
one day cut a few notches right into the top'''''then next day do it again to the main stem on the other side at the end'''''look how mine ended up at the end with 6-7 colas instead of one on one plantQuote:

Wait, you've been growing the plant under an incandescent light? It's got only 4 nodes and it's a foot tall? I think you've probably got a stretchy weak plant due to the wrong lights being used. The light's probably too far away as incandescents are kinda hot. Or have you been using a compact fluro kept within a few inches of the plant?
As far as topping and tieing go, either way will work, use some twine, make a base tie above one of the bottom nodes and pull the plant to one side of the container...GENTLY don't crack the stem, just bend it, put a nail in the side of the planter and use this to tie the line off. Tie another piece of twine one or 2 nodes below the TOP and pull it in the opposite direction and using another nail in the opposite side of the planter from the first nail, tie the second line down.
If you've been using an incandescent light this whole time, it's probably better to start over with fluros, or metal halide, or high pressure sodium (These are the ONLY lights you should be using). \
Oh yeah, read and learn about what you're doing before doing it, it'll save you a lot of headaches and heartache in the long run.
yea i m gonna probably tie it down, but later on today im gonna go get a light. thanx for tha advice
