Hello guys, actually i am 24/0 my baby plants 6 Afgani and 3 skunk-thaihaze.....
will be a problem backing to 18/6, because actually i am using 45Watts CFL x 3 on 24/0.... i got ready my setup with 400watts hid, here are pics, it is really necesary use the hid now?
i know that there is a point in the growing of the plant, that absorb a really high amount of light, anybody knows when is it? about the 4 or 5 of real leaves or something, any overlight before this is waste of energy, i am right?

If they're tiny/small, an HID is not the most 'economical' way to do it... yet there is not reason why it cannot be used.
Zandor would run his germinating seeds 24/0 so when they popped, they encountered light.
Once you're on your 5th set (if I am not mistaken) of leaves, you can start giving them nutrients.
The light per-se, I would go for the HID as soon as you start to see them stretch.
Remember it is a WEED. Weeds grow tall... they like that.
How much time since they popped from the seed?

alright here we are with a pic, this is the afgani, they all look the same, they all popped almost at the same time, this plant is about 5 days older..
using 24/0 3x45 watts CFL of 4000k spectrum light, i can say it look healty, but i cant say it would be bigger if i would had put them in 400watts 18/6 from the begining...

Still not mature enough for nutrients.
As a suggestion, you should get a fan that oscillates (!), and set in so it blows back and forth. That forces the plants to strengthen their stems.
And once you get that fan, you will start blowing that loose top-soild all over the place.
So THEN what you can do is get small white rocks/pebbles/diamonds, and spread them over the top of the soil.
Water goes in. Soil stays put. Gremlins stay underground.

Nothing wrong with using either light source. I've done 24/0 and 18/6. Very little difference in outcome for me.Quote:

135 watts of cfl is enough until all your plants together are bigger than 2 square feet. Then you'll need more light.Quote:

I have used both 24/0 and 18/6 with no noticeable difference.
going 24/0 is really helpful if you need help keeping the temps up. and of course going 18/6, having the lights off during the hottest part of the day if you are have heating issues.
Switching from 24/0 to 18/6 isn't a problem at all. I leave the lights on 24/0 while rooting clones, and then switch to 18/6 (or 12/12) with no problems. For plants in veg, I prefer 18/6 because it's simulates an outdoor environment better. I've also heard that roots don't develop quite as quickly under 24/0, but that may just be a myth.

i followed psteve advice and noticed that all my plants together form a square nearer of two feets.... so here some pics my friends.
Alright, in the photos...one is my setup, other are were my plants are inside, and one photo, is a close up of one of the afgani, that seems to be lacked of calcium, wtf?, how can be a lack of calcium in a 1.5 week old plant?
By the way, i am repotting today with high amount of humus, i was thinking 50% humus, 25% perlite 25% organic earth. how about it bros?
Are you watering with distilled water, or water purified by reverse osmosis? If you're using tap water, then I doubt it's from lack of calcium. Also, if you're using any nutrients... stop. Your plants are too young still to be fertilized. Fill out as much information in the Troubleshooting Form as you can, and you might want to post it over in the Plant Problems forum.Quote:

well i think what caused the problem, i used about 90% perlite and 10% earth lol, but its ok my plants are fine now on 60% humus 20% earth and 20% perlite, also i perfored my pots so they are like swiss cheese, by the way the afgani is extremely bushy =X ....Quote:

Glad to hear things going smoothly for ya! A 90% perlite mix would be a good way to go if, and only if, you plan on supplementing fertilizers exactly when the plants needed them at exactly the right time. Sounds like your new mix should be much more accommodating.
