I have/most likely will never use an HID lamp so I don't know much about the subject. I was wondering if some of you HID growers could gimme a little feedback. I have some numbers sitting in front of me covering LED lights and T5 fluoro ect. I just need to know what you guys know to be the best HPS flowering/MH veg bulbs. Also if you know of a link where they have the spectrum analysis of the bulb/s that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

If any of you old farts out there have a 250/400 HPS magnetic ballast....try a Ceramic Metal Halide bulb....in 250 or 400 watt CMH....:thumbsup:
Veg or Flower...same bulb...period. It's a conversion bulb.
Legwork eh? Didn't now sharing information that you have already acquired was legwork. You obviously mis-read my post, I am not looking for a grow light to use, just wanted opinions from those who actually use them (since I don't) on which was the best. I wouldn't base shit off of information from the internet which is why I wanted actual opinions from people who have not only grown plants but CANNABIS with them. Please don't waste space in this thread to try to bash me. I plan on doing a mere spectrum comparison and crunching a few numbers to see which type of lam in theory would offer the most usable light per watt. It's really no big deal to me, as I had every confidence someone would come along, and give the info. It just struck me as insulting, phrasing your first line as you did, and I responded in the way I respond to others that are unaware there is a Google for other stuff beyond maps. I'm not an old fart yet (I'm still working on that), but I do own an old magnetic HPS400. I've seen a Phillips CMH, but I never really looked that deep into it... plus, I don't think it was a bulb that could burn in a universal position. Actually, I think it was supposed to be vertical.Quote:

Now the unspecified wavelengths can still be used but will not be as effective. This is why I think LED or T5 lamps are soon going to effectively put HID to rest. You can use a combination of bulbs to "custom build" your own spectrum. Same with LEDs, in fact they have better control b/c LEDs peak at very narrow wavelengths. This is why I made this thread, I want info on the BEST HID bulbs out there so I can compare spectral distributions next to T5 and LED. Can't tell you how many hours I have sat with my nose buried deep in a book/computer screen and a joint in my hand. Expect a T5 grow from me using nlite products the T5 lamps found on this site. They are going to upgrade soon and the purple bulbs will be improved upon as well as the red to get a deeper red close to 660nm. The purple bulb peaks at EXACTLY the most photosynthetically efficient wavelengths. The only problem is you can control the bulb itself so you can't raises or lower the amount of lumens given off by the single wavelength. This means you can't have a mix of more red for flower and more blue for veg if you use only purple bulbs. These guys know what they are doing and actually specify their own custom gas mixes to the company that manufactures them. I have been able to contact the US department though it was a bitch and I got numerous e-mails sent back telling me that it never reached them. They are about 20-30 dollars a piece but they are worth it, or so the numbers say.
