A small bong is NOT the best thing for everyone. It's great for a beginner who wants to be able to take small hits and experiment with larger ones.
I think you should get the bong that is just the right size for you. If you like big deep rips or several clearing rips, a larger bong is better. The process of clearing a larger bong by using multiple tokes will get you FAR higher and use far less work (IE lighting and pulling)
Also, aethetically, larger bongs are nicer. Small guys are cool and great to experiment with but there really is something to be said about the "art" bong, the one that stays out so people who come over look at it and say "my god man, that's a nice bong"
So if your primary concern is rip size, go small. Remember, the right bong will just speak to you. Frosty the Snowman/The science experiment was really one of those "oh, look at that, it's perfect" though it's not as pleasing to the eye to everyone. I personally like the type that look like converted science classroom equipment because of the clean lines and perfection of surface. You may like the hand blown multicolor type as in the salimander.
The rule you really should take to heart is "only go as big as you're comfortable but you should probably go right up to that limit if you plan on keeping it around for a long time"
