all the tolerance

It's very inspiring to see all the posts here about people taking breaks from weed in order to build up their tolerance... it not only shows a level of responsibility to your health and wellness, but it definitely is an amicable way to Fuck yourself UP in a week or two :)

That being said, my boyfriend (Potcake) and I are on Day 4 of our break from weed... we had a long weekend and smoked ourselves silly, and decided we would not indulge until our week-long Spring Break--

in a month :microwave:

But we can do it!

Some kids spend their spring break money on a plane trip to Cancun, some stoners spend their spring break money on the ganj :)

So far it hasn't been too bad, I was just getting over a cold when we stopped, so my coughing has been GREATLY reduced since the break, as well as my singing voice has come back.

Would it be incredibly gay of me to keep a log of my Fasting on here, even if nobody reads it? I have a journal I write in, but I feel like if I were starting to fade a little, become weak in my fasting, i'd get more support on here than from the pages of my tangible journal...

I'd like to hear some really awesome success stories about fasting from weed!

yeah, i need to take a break i guess, due to the fact that i went through an amount in half the time i thought it would last me, but i probably wont, i like smoking, i just have a super tolerance, but it could be worse, i still realize im high

A lot of ppl on here hav said the first couple days are the worst... and it's been 4 days for me, and so far I'm fine.

But... I know myself... during many of my breaks in the past, I go for like a week, and THEN i start really really craving it... I haven't gone for longer than a week not smoking in close to 2 years, so this will be a huge feat for me...

Anybody have any successful stories? Do you just get FLOORED when you get back to it?

PS, i'm buying a little bong so I will definitely have something to celebrate when 1 month is over :i feel stupid:

^ you know funny you say that, BeachGuy, cuz the last time i quit for a month and a half (about 2 years ago) was the day I started dating my current boyfriend.

It wasn't intentional, I just got so swept up in him that I just misplaced all thoughts of weed.

Now I have a show to distract me (I play Eilert Loevborg in Henrik Ipson's "Hedda Gabler" if any of you know it) so I hope to conquer it once again.

i went on a 2 month break to lower tolerance.
the first few days were the easiest for me because iwas full of will power..it was after like week 3 thati cracked because i was just like well whats the point..i keep getting offered free weed and im turniong it down, im spending all the money ive saved from weed on take aways and im bored.

A massive thing that helped tho was replacing the weed smoking with another hobbie
i started doing weights again :D

basically i started my break done weights nd got allot of fast food then decided it was all pointless nd started smokign again :)

its funny tho because weed really takes away allot of my motivation to do things lol:(

obviously not 100% but it makes me content with what i am doing and stops me from wanting to have a crack at anything else that is going to take a while.

Anyway my 2 month break was a new years resolution :thumbsup:

my breaks usually last until i get money again, which can sometimes be up to five days, or ill take a break for a few days and only smoke if its offered, its kinda nice, cause i smoke everyone up when i have it, they call me up when i probably dont or am low and everything is easy, but since ive become a heavier smoker i would say my longest break has been about 6 days, then i decided i dont need a second job so there would be no need to pass a drug test, plus i was offered free weed.

edit: At the beginning of the relationship, she wasn't smoking herb (she was at nursing school), but had before. Then, we smoked together for four years, or so.

come a month from now I doubt we're going to hear you saying you regreted it. Tolerance breaks are always definetly worth it

Actually, weights and exercise were really some of the top priorities I had to motivate me to keep up with my break. I've never been ripped or defined, always had that one layer of baby fat on me, and those goodamn munchies (:stoned:) always seem to squelch any gym results lol, so we are thinking alike in that respect.

The tredmill was killer yesterday, because my lungs are in the process of healing (i guess). Because when I smoked daily and ran on the tredmill I was fine, but after a 4 day break, and my lungs are coughin up shit left and right, I had to walk some of my usual jog.

And i definitely don't think I'll be regreting it. I've been an avid smoker for over 4 years now, so a month or so without it will really just be... well, that. Just a month.

I've read on the board that some ppl hav different opinions on when your tolerance gets back down to square one (if there is such a thing). Some ppl said 2 weeks will do it, others say it takes a month.

Is there really such thing, for an avid smoker, as getting your tolerance completely down?

Sort of... None of us really know the specifics but after two weeks more time doesn't really seem to make a noticible difference. It will however build up your anticipation though.

i like to be as hi as possible as much as possible but when i met my x girl i quit for 8 months but 5 minutes after we broke up i was baked and have been since it's been 9 months it's nice to be hi all the time

Wow, quit for 8 months! Man, I'm sure there will come a time in my life when i can say "shit it's been years since i smoked", but no time soon lol.

Potcake, my boyfriend, didn't smoke muuuuch before we started dating. But I don't even think I knew that when we started dating and I just up and stopped for over a month.

But now he smokes (im a bad influence!!) and he's a vocalist, but he bought a vaporizer (HerbalAir), and I'm in the process of buying a bong (still not 100% effecient in elliminating carcinogens, but better than nothin) so we're health-conscious... hehe sort of.

My ex girlfriend though, she was always against me smoking weed, and then she got into it herself slightly, but was still kind of hypocritical about it. She didn't understand how casual pot could be.

Anyway, Day 5 of my fast went well... i was very lethargic and slightly down today, not sure if that had to do with staying up late, or my body becoming used to not smoking. This i the first day I've felt anything slightly resembling mental withdrawl...

im on the first day of my break. i think i will take a week off. smoke one blunt on the weekend if i go to the beach or something then take another week off till my spring break. so it will either be 2 weeks straight or week off, smoke one day, then another week off

Officially, i foresee myself smoking on March 22nd, the day I get back from an overnight trip to Montreol (for a friends 22nd birthday), so as it stands I have 27 days left... AH! lol Total, it will have been 33 days without weed. 33 days longer than it's been in 2 years!

The way I see it, your cannabinoid receptors are activated within seconds of inhaling. The only thing that's building up the tolerance is that your cannabinoid receptors are not functioning properly.

But, yeah, if you don't smoke for four months, you'll have more appreciation for it than you would if you stop for four days. That's if you smoke for reasons other than you've been demolished, hammered, and, tampered with, after you had your brain bounced around your skull.

^ yea i smoke purely for recreation. There's no physical or mental ailment that requires the use of the smokey pain killer. I just do it for fun.

Today I find myself 12 pounds below what I was at the start of this semester, and I do think that the majority of my progress has been made in the 6 days I've stopped smoking. Im not saying I lost 10 pounds in 6 days, but my will power has grown, and my dedication is strengthening.

I'm still feeling somewhat lethargic, perhaps still has a result of my brain missing weed, but in 15 minutes i'll be jogging on the tredmill and doing 300 crunches, so my adrenaline will be pumping and I'm sure I'll be feeling better.

On the other hand, during the first half of this little weight-loss journey, i WAS smoking, and to be honest, the notion that I was going to get to smoke that night was really what kept me motivated. I had to give up all my favorite foods, but I rewarded myself for doing that and going to the gym by getting a toke at night.

So it's neither here nor there with any relation to smoking & weightloss. It works differently for different ppl.

I guess it works both ways for me. I'm BiSmokable lol.

nice, losing weight, getting the munchies, and smoking make the world possible for me, in the last 8 months i have lost about 60 pounds, and in the last 6 ive been smoking, so to me, i see smoking as a positive thing, it has given me a sort of appreciation for doing stuff which i reward myself with smoking with, it may be a bad system, but it gives results, but sometimes i do smoke for the hell of it, in fact most of the time, but usually only when i have nothing going on.

Heyy nice fuckin job Jimmy! Just giving yourself that reward can be the difference between sticking it out and giving up.

I was a big kid, and I've lost a grand total of 100 lbs since my junior year of highschool. I lost about 60 of it while in highschool, and the rest slowly in college. It's been a process 5 years in the making, but every once in a while il put a few more pounds back on (not necessarily from munchies, although that does help lol) so now it's just time to get rid of those last 20 or so pounds.

The last ones are the hardest.

Onto my fasting... The gym this morning was great, felt slight effects of lung-healing on the tredmill, but I powered through and did my jog without walking any.

Definitely bong-searching is keeping me motivated to my fast. I literally have not had one craving for weed. I think I've finally conquered my irrational thoughts.

Deep into a spell of smoking a lot, sometimes I find myself thinking "i better smoke now, b/c who knows when the next time im going to smoke is", but having a goal in mind... not smoking until March 22, it makes it that much easier. It's not like I'm breaking for an undisclosed ammount of time, I know no matter what I'll be taking a puff in a month (granted my dealer doesn't crap out on me lol)

This is the first time I really feel in control. 'Course that may change in a week, but let's hope not!

which is pretty good. but now it's like starting all over.

in leu of all this will-power, when i started this break, i thought that after indulging over my march spring break, i'd wait until 420 to smoke again, even though my birthday is April 13th.

If I do it right, this will be the first birthday I've had in 4 years that I haven't smoked.

So today officially marks my first full week of No cannabis whatsoever.

But here's the kind of ironic part... I went to my doctor today, and incidentally, I was prescribed an antibiotic for an infection. I have to take the antibiotics for 2 weeks, which really doesn't interfere with any of my plans to pick smoking back up...

Doctor said i MAY need to have a full months worth, but I honestly think the 2-week will work. I have a pretty good immune system.

So that's that, I can't even smoke if I want to.

Not that I'm planning on it, but what exactly happens when you mix pot with antibiotics? I know that with alcohol, antibiotics kind of double the effects, so one beer feels like two etc...

If that's the case w/ pot then fuck lol i just MIGHT try it haha

last night was really the first night i started to think ill about the short future ahead of me without weed...

it felt kind of bleak. sad that i wouldn't get to smoke for close to a month, but sad that i was already starting to doubt myself.

it would feel sooooo good to get soooo high right now, but it is going to feel even better on March 22 to take that first bong rip and go "I fucking did it".

I hope i don't eat my words! It would be very much in my character if in another week i went "Why was I waiting a whole month? 2 weeks is fiiine!" But that's irrational justification... 2 weeks is fine, of course, but that wasn't my goal.

And I are going to start sticking to my goals.

grr... first morning i've been in a terrible mood in quite a while... and sometimes it's irritating because since i'm normally such an up-beat, relaxed person, whenever i AM in a bad mood, people respond to it differently.

i mean, we all know those people who always have something crummy to say... for example, on my AIM buddy list, there are those people who 24/7 have "in a horrible mood, leave me alone" or "I CAN'T STAND PEOPLE" as their away message... those people are somehow "allowed" to be in bad moods because that's how they characterize themselves.

but me, a normally nice guy, can't have 1 bad day without people calling me on it or jumping down my throat about it...

im not sure this has to do with my break from weed, more like im just ranting...

the break's going nicely i guess. i think im on day 9... it seems like this break is going SOOO slow, but an advantage to that is if it takes a WHILE for me to get to the point where i can smoke again, that means at least i'll be working out and getting fit for a WHILE.

you know, it really pisses me off when friendship is not reciprocated... i take friendship very seriously, and if someone i was very close to decided to take a break from weed, i'd be supportive.

but for some reason iv got these douchebags that are more concerned with having one less person to get a fix from, or one less person to chip in, or that im "changing" because i don't hang out and smoke 24/7... that's selfish. incredibly selfish.

i admit, i can be selfish sometimes too... but jesus christ, it's hard enough to follow thru with your OWN plans and your OWN goals without someone else trying to break you down.

the way i see it, if a friend tells me they're taking a break it's for a couple reasons... A.) they want to let me know why they won't be smoking... B.) they want to let me know that they will make the decision to smoke the next time, so i need not offer... C.) they want my support...

im a communication major PEOPLE TALK FOR A REASON. if i tell someone im not smoking, it's not because i'm bragging. it's a silent plea for their help. please make this easier on me by NOT getting in the way.........

You asked if your ranting could be because of the break. IMHO as a psych student, it definitely could be due to the break. Their can be mood changes when any type of psychotrophic (greek, nutritous to the mind) substance is either introduced to the body, or removed from the body after a being used for a certain period of time and the body has developed a tolerance, or in some cases a slight dependency on the substance.

For example, I cannot get to sleep without cannabis. If I were to be dry, I would not sleep for days on end at times and the mood changes come with extra velocity then.

There are many such variables that affect this, but for up to a few weeks, it is not uncommon for heavy uses to report insomnia, depression, sweating, impatience, anxiety etc It will get better fast though, no worries

the boyfriend toked again last night. i did not.

for a large portion of yesterday i was with a bunch of my friends who i usually smoke with (we got Subway hehe) and at one point it was mentioned that we should go for some dessert (our discrete way of saying let's go smoke) but i kind of just sidestepped it.

iv been having issues with my car, and ALMOST consented to smoking... but there were so many more reasons Not to.

But I haven't faced the real challenge of being IN a room WITH people smoking and being able to say no. That's the hard part, and that's the part I want to know I can handle.

but maybe that's setting myself up for failure. i have another friend (the president of our student government, no less) who keeps informing me that she just got some weed and that we need to hang out soon, so maybe that will be the environment in which I will say no to a smoking bowl.

so this has nothing to do with my current smoking habits, although maybe it does...

so im in this show, Hedda Gabler, doing great things... it was one of the reasons i decided to take a break from smoking, because i wanted to be clear-headed for it.

So today after rehearsal, my cast went to see another show called "12 Angry Men" (really good show)... and while I was there, I was approached by a student at the music school attached to my college. He told me he's directing a 2-person 1-act musical called "The Last Five Years". It's about 90% singing, I haven't been featured as a singer in a show in... maybe 2 or 3 years... and one of the reasons I've abstained from getting involved with anything singing is because of smoking.

Anyway, this guy approached me, and basically offered me the male part in this 2-person musical. Auditions are on the 15th, and the show goes up sometime towards the end of the semester....

This would mean that i definitely would not be smoking leading up to this production... definitely on 420, and maybe out of a vaporizer recreationally, but that's it...

I think I took this break at the very right time in my life.

tomorrow will be 3 weeks of cold-turkey no smoking after almost 2 years of doing it daily.

it's getting really reallllly hard not to call up my dealer.

i just keep getting reminded of how easy it is to get weed! (it makes me laugh when i think of those desperate days and nights where all i wanted was for a dealer to answer their phone lol)

i could just call.. start my car... buy the shit... and be high before i left his driveway, hell before i left his livingroom!!

but must maintain... only 12 more days and i can smoke again!!!

It's not like I've been counting the days or anything, honestly, and it's not like I'm even like "omg i can't wait i can't wait", but for me it's the actually fact that i MADE it, i DID it, or rather i DIDN'T do it! It's proof for myself that I can stick to my guns and actually accomplash what I set out for. I went for 1/12th of an entire year without weed and SURVIVED WOW!:D
