another grow now with KALI MIST & friends

So its time to start off on another grow since my reveg failed LOL. This time I have a Kali Mist sprout, my homegrown seed from the last harvest, and a really old bagseed i had that germed. ill be doing more seeds soon since my buddy hooked me up with some hashberry, hindu kush, and some purple bagseed.

I have them in solo cups under a 26w 6700k cfl each, though i can put up to 7 bulbs if need be. two pc exhaust fans and 3 1inch passive intake holes. I have a plexiglass "heat shield" to help vent hotter air and it actually works. cab dimensions are 11" x 20" x 29" but im only using the top half. i may end up putting lights on the bottom half for the clones/moms for max grow space.

germed them about 2 weeks ago and they sprouted a couple days later. I used peat pucks for the homegrown and kali mist and tryed out a rockwool cube on the old bagseed. the kali mist was the last to sprout but growing nice and quick compared to the first to sprout (old bagseed) which is growing slowly. I hope to make them all bonsai moms if they turn out female or at least get some good pollen if they end up boys.

watering every couple days with half strength FF grow big. ordered some superthrive so ill be adding that every once in a while along with molasses.

yeah my reveg was coming along and then it just crapped out on me. but like you said it was a good learning experience plus my ma got a kick out it since it actually grew back. my problem was the soil wasnt cutting it so i had to make it more loose and better draining. cab dimensions are 11"deep x 20"wide x 29"high i was also thinking of turning it on its side to make it 29" wide but im still thinking about that.

I would keep it 29'' high you may need that 9'' down the road:)

Can you make a smaller box for vegging? so when you weed out the males or harvest a plant, you have another plant ready to go in the flower box. Just something to think about.

i got another rubbermaid bin i used to veg my clones but this is my new veg cab. i have a flower cab(old armoire) in the works that will be using 2 150HPS in a cooltube so that should be ready in time for flowering. I have all the parts for it just need to put it all together and make sure its light proof and has good ventilation. its big enough to grow 6-8 3 foot plants with a lil extra space.

To start things off Ive been germinating all week with whatever seed i had ranging from really old bagseed to some fresher bagseed to some known strains. so far the bagseed had some pop but most were to old and got tossed. got 2 more KaliMist and they both sprouted along with an ObS(old bagseed). i went all rockwool for sprouting these seeds instead of peat pucks like normally, and like the results alot better. was digging around in my garage and found a tupperware that fits nicely in a ziploc container. initially i was gonna use it for a wick cloner but ended up using it as a humidity dome for my seeds to sprout.

my humidity was getting low so i just filled a container with some water and threw in a bubble ring. i have it bubbling 24/7 and now my humidity is about 5-10% higher. been watering every 3 days with FF grow big and they got some superthrive on one of the waterings. not much happening with the 3 vegging i think they're about 16-18 days old but they look a lil small to me. although it could just be that i havent done seeds in a while and im tripping. anyone else think they're small??

i started clearing out my flowering area but it still needs alot of work. my cab needs a new back and top so it can handle the extra weight of the blower and lights. gonna pick up some 1/4" and 1/2" ply for that. then i can actually start working on the cab itself like mounting my cooltube, blower, ballasts. but thats down the road, i still need to clean that whole area before moving my cab there and leveling it.

ok lets see some comments/critique/tips im always looking to improve my growing.

did a lil remodeling to my cab to fit more plants but its still gonna end up to small (i think). added a weak intake fan and its helping the temps to lower a bit. tonight i transfered the older 3 to 1 gallon pots. this will be the final pot size til i know theyre female. any males will be put outdoors hopefully to finish off for pollen collection.

some pics of how i transplant.

1-put some perlite on the bottom of pot for better drainage.
2-fill about halfway with potting mix.
3-place old pot with plant into new pot.
4-backfill around old pot to the top.
5-remove old pot and sprinkle cloning powder in pot hole.
6-remove plant from old pot and place into fresh new pot.
7-water lightly to get everything happy.

~quick update~

Removed a couple seedlings since they weren't doing so great. All were bagseed (2 purple and one older type). Still have all the kali mist and hashberry :jointsmile: thankfully. For some reason those purple bagseeds arent doing all that great, they get the same treatment as the rest but just dont seem to make it past a week or two.

Did a flush on all of them today with 6.5 pH water and 2 tsp per gallon of hydrogen peroxide(h2o2). I think the h2o2 really helped the roots out cause they all perked up and weren't all droopy. The runoff was 6.5 pH :thumbsup: on all of them so I let them set for a lil bit and drain off all excess water. Mixed up some tiger bloom and a couple drops of superthrive for a last flush. Needed the extra "P" from the tiger bloom to hopefully remedy a lil "P" deficiency.

Looking good, I like how I like how you are watering now:)

One thing is I never read or heard of using cloaning powder when transplanting. Seems like overkill to me. I just keep it simple and risks to a minimum. I take the low road on nutes and only increase if a difficancy appears. I look at it this way, if you take the high road you run a real risk of root burn or nute lock along the entire grow. I am not saying you are doing that but just my 2 cents of advice.

JG: I forget where i saw it, but i read someones growlog and they transplanted like that so I tried it out. Dont really need the extra rooting powder, although I think it did help the roots a lil bit on one of the plants. oh yeah JG, how often do you flush your plants? got that h2o2 tip from your growlog, so thanks for that :)

When I water it is as close to flush as you can get with both nuted water and plane water.

I use my bath tub and pour enough untill it flows out the drain holes steadily, then let sit for 20 to 30 min to drain any excess water. Then place back in box untill the bucket feels light again.

This prevents any nute build up and flushes away any salts.

things are growing good nowadays thankfully. I fimmed all three older plants at the sixth node and they're growing great. the 4 seedlings looked hungry so they got a sample of some grow big (just a lil) and seemed to enjoy it. not much else happening yet, thought they did just start to get some smell. its only that green grass kinda smell but its still better that nothing.

Awesome. I was contemplating growing some kali mist for my next grow since I like a more sativa type smoke.

daihashi: Im not 100% positive that its really kalimist. My sis had some kalimist and she always has the craziest luck. Well this time was no different as she was graced with just about 5-6 perfect seeds in a ounce, and since she dont grow anymore I got them all :thumbsup:. I looked up as many different kalimist grows as I could find and although they look similar, mine look to be part indica possibly which leads me to my hypothesis of them not being real kalimist

Since I didnt update on wednesday like I wanted to Ill do it now. Not much to write about except for pic 1 which speaks for itself. At first it was looking like a male then the next day "BAM" white hairs emerged. I was so relived to see those hairs, especially since I was gonna put her outside if she turned out male. Its the old bagseed most likely a sativa with its longer thinner leaves and hasnt really produced any branching like KM1 or HbS (pic 3). I started to LST the bigger 3 plants. Im gonna try to do different growing styles with the kalimist1,2,3. KM1 will be fimmed and LST, KM2 will grow normally, and KM3 will be suppercropped or maybe individual scrog. We'll see when the time comes I may just lst them all since Im most comfortable with it.

As you can see in pic 2 I bought some building materials and will be constructing my cab throughout this weekend. It will be 4 feet wide 2 feet deep and 4 feet high. The interior will have 3 separate areas flower, veg, and a utility box. Will be running 2 150hps in a DIY cooltube for flowering and the veg cab will be using my current cfl rig. All ballasts and wiring will be in the utility box along with the blower. If you ever heard of a NGB cab this will be one of those, just using soil instead of SWC hydro. All the materials cost me $135 but I need to get different hinges and some paint maybe. I already have the lights, blower, and most important the plants. Just need to build it and put them in they're new home :D.

The last pic is of the baby my Grapevine X Lavender. I count the days from when the cotyledons break the surface and on this one they broke on the 8th making it just under 2 weeks with 4 nodes. So far this has been the best grower out of them all. Nice steady growth with big leaves and strong roots.

Id love to have some comments/opinons on my growing methods, so good or bad lets hear it. well maybe not the bad LOL

thanks guys I may have jumped the gun a lil with my log and all. Ill still update for you guys. just lately homelife is hectic and getting the best of me (kicked out sisters BF). I admit I totally came off as blaming the boards which was wrong but it was just one of those days, ya know what i mean. But i will say I might stop this log and start a new one when my cab is all finished and ready to produce.

on a side note my kalli mist 1 has shown FEMALE preflowers. so now i have 2 females and i took a cutting from each the other day. ill post a real grow update later for you guys.

So after better inspection I found out that I have all females with one left to show preflowers. I havent changed my light schedule still on 18/6 so after my clones (crosses fingers) take root i can start flowering again :jointsmile:. I took 4 cuttings a couple days ago and placed them in my newly made bubble cloner and box. they re looking good so far and no yellowing yet. The separate clone is from kalimist 1 taken on the 13th and ready for transplant. It was originally the bottom branch that i cut off since it was so small. Used rockwool i cut smaller with a bit of perlite and it worked to my amazement. roots were visible 7 days after cut was made.

preparation will begin soon for the new cab. I already cleared out my area just need to do a lil more organizing before construction. also after looking over my design i realized i need about 48 more feet of 1" x 1" for my framing LOL. so i need to head down to HD for that.

oh yeah those are some of the best pancakes ever. i think its just a buttermilk pancake but the macadamia nut buttercream they add on top is the bomb. if your ever in hawaii go to the "HUNGRY LION" for pancakes.

I hope the bubble cloner works??!?! my first time using one of these an supposedly they work really good for cloning. so far no roots or root nubs. i lowered the water level so the bubbles arent popping so close to the lid, because my lid was dripping a lil outside.

UPDATE!! I have officially run out of growing space. so much so that my hashberry is getting burned on the tips :(.

on the good side, I started building my cab but its going slow or should i say Im pacing myself. I hope to be all finished up by the weekend and have the girls in there with more space.

oh yeah almost forgot, add one more female to the bunch. my HGS has shown female preflowers and is the 6th of 7 plants only got the grapevine X lavender left to sex.

my clones are still alive with no yellowing at all but also no roots only some tiny root nubs starting. maybe in another couple days roots will get longer.

time to start working on the cab again.

Cab is just about finished. Need to hang one more door on it and its pretty much done. Other things I still need to do (not listed in order)
1-cut passive intakes for veg and flower
2-cut exhaust for blower
3-install CFLs, HPS, and blower
4-hang mylar
5-run wiring in cab

Ok as for the girls they are doin great just need a new home already. I do have a lil problem though. I have them on 19/5 and they all have preflowers, and they keep making more. I dont want to flower until I have a few clones of each to make moms. Why are they still making preflowers under 19/5?? Should I put them under 24/0 to keep them vegging??

My bubble cloner is acting up and not making bubbles like its supposed to. If I cant get it working good I may try making a aero cloner or go back to rockwool/peat pucks. Any suggestions on a good cloning method? I need to take cut clones ASAP.

So instead of rushing and possibly messing something up on my cab. I redid my closet for temporary use. basically set it back up the way I had it for my previous grows.

Took cuttings while I did my closet. Two from every plant, all put in rockwool and under a dome. Added two more cuttings to my bubble cloner and its back to making bubbles like its supposed to. Over night I got roots on my older cuttings that were just doing ok, I think its due to me moving them with the rest of the group.

I keep forgetting to take pics of the cab so when its done, thats when Ill post them. I was gonna finish up to night but all I got to do was move it to its base. Thankfully I had some friends over today to give me a hand. Now that its on the base I can cut the intakes on the floor. Then cut the exhaust and check for negative pressure.

I wanted to make some sort of custom locking mechanism for the doors, but just cant think of how to start or where to begin. So any loggers that might be able to shed some light on the subject please do. I was checking google but didnt find anything I liked or that fit the project.

I hope my cuttings root soon too. RapidRooters will be my next method to try out. Stinky makes it look all to easy cloning with those. My next time at the hydro shop Ill pick up some rapidrooters and some new FF grow big.

Is anyone else using fox farms Grow big and the N-P-K is 3-2-6? On the FF feeding chart it says its N-P-K is 6-4-4. So do I have a older formula or something?

just a lil update on the cloner. So it seems they really like it better with the rest of the group. Only one clone has roots but hopefully now that I have a better grip on things the rest will root soon. I raised the water about a inch from the top of the bubble cloner and added a small air hole to prevent the lid from popping off LOL :thumbsup:. Now to see what roots faster the bubbler or the rockwool.

There are 2 different Grow Bigs, one is for hydro, the other is for soil. Green Lable is for soil, Aqua Lable is for hydro.

I know carpentry, when you say locking mechinizim what do you mean? Are you looking for stelth, security, artistic, all or none of the listed?

Just give me an idea of what your looking for and hopefully I can point you in the right direction.

As for the locking mechanism......hmmmmmmmmmm. I kinda was looking for a door lock type thats stealthy so noone will know how to open the doors. a trick door i guess? plus I have padlocks on each door at the top for extra security. im gonna check out some magic stuff on trap doors for ideas. any help would be great.

So here it is, not quite fully finished but just about there. Still need to cut the exhaust hole since I forgot to do that tonight :jointsmile: then check for negative pressure. After the venting is all handled correctly, I plan to do all the wiring for the remote ballasts and mock it up in the cab with cooltube. I already did the lighting for the veg cab, which is currently in use in my closet and I may add 2 more 15w floro tubes for a lil extra side lighting. If your wondering about a carbon scrubber, I dont have a need for them at all as my entire household smokes. Though I might make one if my girls start to really stink up alot. I already have a design conjured up in my head for when i need it.

If anyone has any questions regarding my cab fire away. I also alreay have ideas for a new and improved cab even though I literally just finished the first one tonight. over the next couple weeks Ill be running tests in the cab before actually growing in it. "Dont wanna commit my girls to a cab that cant handle them, you know what I mean".

oh yeah my one clone with roots is doing great. It now has about four 2-3 inch roots growing strong. I plan on using it in a DWC bucket I made to experiment with the hydro scene.

Today I cut the exhaust hole for the cab and hooked up my blower with 4" ducting. Gonna let it run over night to break it in. I hope to get my two 150s in the cooltube and running so I can get some temperature readings. At first I was gonna mount the ballasts in the cab next to the blower but I changed my mind and decided to mount them outside on the top of my cab. I figure the less heat sources in the cab the better.

I setup my DWC bucket and got it running with 2 kalimist clones in a 4" net pot. Both clones had a bunch of 4-6" roots nice and white. It holds around 1 1/2 gallons of water, then added 2tsp grow big, 3 drops of super thrive, then pH'd to 5.8 (only needed a couple drops of ph down). This is my first time trying hydro growing so I hope I do alright. Am I doing this right so far??

No I didnt bail on you guys, if thats what anyone was thinking. Just figured no one really wants to see vegging plants so I held off til now, plus I finished my cab :thumbsup:. Im not gonna get into any details here but start a new log for this cab. I hope everyone migrates over to that once I get it started, its gonna be a full cab for me from now on so stay posted.
