white hairs right from seed cracking? is it a female?
hey, i currently grew some weed out doors from seeds i ordered from "www.butdutchseeds.com" and they were "swiss-miss" seeds if you ever herd of them...anyway i bred one of the plants so i could keep the strain and try an indoor grow over the winter..so, i popped 12 of the seeds about the first of the month, one of the seeds than had popped had white "female" hairs as soon as the seed broke and the first set of leaves opened..i was wondering if this ment that it is a garenteed female or what? did anyone ever see this before...the pland isn't growing as fast as the other 11 but it looks just as good..any input on this would be great, below is a pic of one of the plants that i grew outdoors, i bred her sister.

This belongs in the basic growing section.
Perhaps one of our fabulous mods can move it?

Man! That is the craziest shit I've ever heard. What do you mean you bred her? Had white hais outta the seed? What did you cross her with? Or did you just take cuttings?

when i bought the seeds i had ordered the 100% female seeds..so, when i popped my seeds to grow them outdoors out of the 10seeds i had ordered only 8 of them popped, and one of the eight was a male, so i had 7 females and one male out of the 10 i had ordered, i took the male and one of the females and bred them outdoors. from the seeds i got from the two i bred i am now currently growing my first indoor grow. when i popped some of the seeds one of them had "female" hairs as soon as the seed opened into a flower???????? beats me how it worked , but only the one seed did that, the other few i cracked didn't have the hairs.so i was wondering if it is a female right from the start..?? i'll have poctures of the indoor grow in a wek or so.

no for god sakes..the plant is in the soil and growing, it is now about 8-10 inches tall, when i had first planted it and the first set of leaves started to come out there were white hairs onto the stalk right from the gick-go.

Even if they are "feminized" they won't show sex until given the regimin of light that triggers flowering. Photoperiod on the outdoors and you mock that photoperiod indoors..:stoned:

yes i know that you dont see the sex till the light is somewhat reduced..but what i'm saying is that this one seed had the white hairs that you see on female plants as soon as it was about an inch high from the first set of round leaves.almost like it is already sexed or something...im starting to think that this is a very rare sighting....

so, no one has any thoughts as to why there are white hairs on my plant and it is only a week old....does this mean i got some king of super female or something??...do you think i should clone this plant to get a good grow cycle out of it ,than breed it with a male to keep the strain?

I'd take cuttings from her!

white hairs right from seed cracking? is it a female?
i am deff going to take atleast 12-15 cuttings and see how they turn out..i have been growing since many years now and have never seen this before...i was just looking at the plant again and there are hairs on every node..the plant was growing from seed since the first of the month and it now has 10 sets of branches and is only about 8 inches tall, it is very, very close branches...looking great for only a month from seed...i topped it today.hoping for more branch growth than i'll clone in another couple weeks when the branches get a little longer..

white hairs right from seed cracking? is it a female?
i know this is a old post, just stumbled acrossed it. And dude, the tiny little so called 'white hairs' you are seeing along the stem line are tiny little root shoots ,and if covered up to the codelydons, may progress and make new root shoots. This is common on all cannabis seedling stems. Ur either seeing this,or possibly small trichomes on the seedling leaves, this is common also,i always see them on seedlings. Good luck....

white hairs right from seed cracking? is it a female?
ok, after starting my crop this year from what is more or less a host of seeds from a bazillion different sources thrown together randomly into tubs, i noticed after about a week of growth that one seedling was forming little white hairs behind its first set of ridged leaves, one thick hair behind each. she's sitting in front of me right now, about 3/4 inches tall...which is unusual because she's growing significantly slower than any of her (hopefully) sisters. seeing as i have NEVER seen or heard of ANYTHING like this before, i decided to go online and see if i could chance upon an explanation, and i'm beginning to believe that this is in fact as close as i'm going to get. i don't have any pictures yet, because she is so tiny and i don't have a camera that will photograph that small without blurring the important stuff. i will do my best to acquire some photos so that anyone who is interested can share notes. so far, all i can say about this particular plant is that it had white hairs strait from the seed, is growing significantly slower than any of my other plants, regardless of gender, and is forming something behind each of the white hairs that i am reasonably sure are not leaves, but are not defined enough to positively identify as buds. FURTHERMORE, whereas most of my plants grow leaves rather symmetrically, one of the two initial ridged leaves is about 3x larger than the other. and still furthermore, whereas most of my plants form leaves in clusters perpendicular to one another, this oddity is forming her ridged leaves directly on top of her primary leaves, with the little bud-like nubs forming perpendicularly. and i've been keeping all my plants under 24 hr light since sprouting, so my best guess so far is that this is some sort of double-recessive once-in-a-million genetic fluke occurrence. i've already decided i'm going to cross-breed with a few of my more impressive looking males, once the time comes around. sounds to me like there's quite a bit of potential for some new and interesting strains here, given that this is apparently such a rare occurrence. if anyone out there has anything interesting to contribute, send email correspondence to [email protected].

If i had a plant that done that and it indeed did turn out a female for sure i would definately give her some pollen and let her seed. You just might stumble across a nice little strain and you will have many seeds that you can keep for future grows. Clone it pollinate it and hope for the best :)

Hi, It kind of sounds like an auto flowering plant. I'm no expert but I seem to remember that auto flowering can occur rarely in naturally early finishing strains.

sounds like auto flowering for sure

plants that are stressed by weather etc may pre/flower way early in any attempt to proliferate.
Being that you are outdoors and are not in control of the elements, the strain you have may have been developed indoors an is thus not ideally suited to oputdoor climate, that being said you may still get some goodness from the fine goddess.
Also may have been bred for seed to fruit and no ideal for such situation
