Hey so i currently have a couple seedlings growing under some lights in my room.

i have a grow box in some room in the garage. Its a transparent container that i painted white on the inside, and then hooked up 2 bathroom light racks each with 3 spots, and a hundred watt max per spot.

so 600 watts of light, and in 60 seconds the box goes from 60 degrees to over 160. (thermometer can not read past 160).

i am using 100 watt full spectrum light bulbs

i am going to attach a pc fan for exhaust to the box but i really dont think it will help that much.
the box is an oven.
What do i do to lower the temperature?
Thanks

None of the heat can escape, the pc fan will do a lot if you have two, intake and exhaust. I made my box that is like that one, only I have 6 60 watt daylight 6500k, and one 100w warm white 3000k bulb, with the intake fan blowing on the bulbs, and directly across on the other side of the bulbs the exhaust fan blowing out. I can grab anyone of the bulbs with my hand after burning a week straight. If I can touch it my plants can too. if it still isnt cool enough add more fans, kinda like building a pc

are you using cfl's? or what? and can i afford to use 2 fans? im tring to conserve amp usage because im going to make a second box for flowering.

You ned to be able to bring fresh air in as well as exhaust the heated air out.

Those bulbs are USELESS for growing.
AND a huge fire hazard when enclosed like that.
Get some 26 to 40 watt CFL's.

wouldn't it be ideal to get 100 watt cfl's? why would i want 26-40 cfl's if i could use 100 watt cfl's? do they make 100 watt cfl's?

A 23 - 26 watt spiral CFL is equivalent to the 100 watt bulbs you are using now.
40 watt CFL's will give you almost twice the light you have now, and it will be closer to the proper spectrum for growing.
You should use bluer light (>5000k) for veging, and redder light (2000-3000K) for flowering.
AND you're still going to need ventilation, or you'll burn up your plants.

...and read. Heres a good grow log with CFL's that Bob Bong did. Hope this helps.

oh sweet, so is this straight? 40 watt cfl produces twice as many lumens as a 100 watt incandescent?
how many watts of cfl is ideal per square foot?
i love you guys

Approximately, more or less, on average, it's just a little less than double.

Ideally, you want more than 70 watts per square foot. More is always better, as long as you can control the heat.Glad to help.

k well i think im going to add another 3 rack in the middle of the box.
70 watts of actual light or 70 watts of cfl light?
grow box is 160 degrees + in under a minute. please help
70 actual watts. Like 3x 23 watt (100 watt equivalent) bulbs.

70 actual watts is a lot. if the bulbs are 23 watts each i would need 12 in my box (3.75 ft sq) to get 73.6 watts per sq foot. i dont even think i can fit 12!
