Would you give up your pets for a lover
I wondered how emotionally attached people can get to thier animals? I have been trying to rent out a room, and I get alot of people with dogs looking for pet friendly places. I sort of wondered if they were going to risk having no where to live just for these pets. Combined with trying to find someone 420 friendly I havent had one person ready to move in.
Then I was talking to a guy I have been seeing and he hinted I could probably rent my house out, and then I could become his room mate. I was speechless for several reasons, but then I got all teary eyed and said what about my kitty your dogs would kill it if they ever got ahold of it.
That was it, end of conversation! So I guess that means we both have a stronger attachment to our animals then too each other? I keep trying to remember people called to rent my room and wouldnt give up pets so maybe its just we arent ready to give up something like our pets, not that we value our pets more then our relationship.

Hell no i wouldnt give up Venus for ANYONE. hell, I didnt give her up when I had nowhere to live. I ate ramen noodles for the better part of a year to make sure her and my other little ones had their food and didnt go without. Its like with children. you wouldnt expect someone to give up their children for a lover. If you wanna be even my friend you have to like my dogs. if you dont like or at least tolerate them, there's the door. Dogs are much more loyal, loving, trusting and better behaved than most human beings out there. and if they eat your stash, then its ur own damn fault for leaving it out. i wouldnt give any of them up or weed. im willing to compromise on alot of things besides my dogs, my friends and my weed.
maybe Ya'll can slowly introduce your animals. bring ur kitty in a crate where they cant get ahold of it, and let them sniff around and get used to having it around. they will eventually deal, and get along or at least share living space.

My girl and I own 3 cats and we have already talked about who would get which cats if we were to split, she would take 2 and I would have the other.
Hope it never comes to that but they are important enough to both of us to feel the need to come to the best solution if the situation ever arises.I don't believe either of us would ever consider giving them up for a new friend , they would have to take the whole package or nothing.

Between you and I, I have twins its just that one never comes out of hiding unless I am here all alone.
I think I will keep trying to find a room mate.

Don't sweat it... my ex wouldn't give up her animals an both she and my children almost ended up on the street.... She still places those animals higher on the list than her own children!!

I would never give up my dog for someone. My boyfriend and I have already talked about who would get him if we ever broke up. He'd be all mine

I would never get rid of a pet for a significant other. I'm a cat man and would never get rid of them!! Why is it, a man that owns a cat instead of a dog is less manly? I get hell from my "macho" friends for liking cats over dogs.

Tell your friends comparing a dog to a cat is like comparing a street slugger to the ultimate martial artist , cats are faster, more agile, and meaner than any dog.
Pound for pound a dog will get it's arse seriously kicked by a cat.

Nope! Patsy is my buddy and that's that. Anyone I date will have to deal with her as long as she's alive.
I love the company of dogs, and the only way I would ever consider NOT getting another dog would be if my SO (and this is WITH a ring dammit, boyfriends don't count) was really allergic. And I'd want to see proof of this.

Totally agree; the pet has more sense than anyone I ever met; AND THEY R UNCONDITIONAL LUV! Have been in court fightin my ex for the dogs! What a trip! No matter how much you discuss it, found u need a contract that is binding if u get a pet with a SO! Cheaper to get new pets, but luv the one I have! Would give up a leg first!

I think I would give up all my cats for the lady that I love. However she is as much of a cat lover as I am, so I would never have the face such a dilema. The love of my life would never make me give up the other love that I have encountered over the past few years. My cats shit out-side and they eat inside, so I see no problem with letting them live with me or even sleep in my bed. I would die for my lady, but I dont think I would die for my Misty and her 4 children, ALL WHOM LIVE WITH ME.

So um... how does this relate to the title of giving your pet up for a lover?
Well anywhoo, I'm never renting a place if I can't bring my Patches along! (my cat) She's not just an animal, she's my animal, bonded to me waaay more than anybody else. Worth far too much for me.

Don't give up your kitty.
I've seen many cats and dogs who live peacefully together, you should try seeing if they would like each other.

Well, if we are going to mince words, the answer is NO. But good catch on the unwashed masses' inability to catch the subtleties of the thread title!

Not a chance. Anyone who would be willing to have you be more unhappy so that they are MORE happy is not someone I'd want a relationship with. Period.

I feel the same way and in the future, I'll be sure to have legal documents drawn up to be sure of my ownership or my pets ownership of me!! No more courts for keeping my dog!! I'd never given my dog up, ever! And still trying to get um back! Plus, I'll change locks, security system, etc. anything to keep from going to court to keep my baby!

and lets not forget responsibility. when you adopt a pet you have an obligation (morally) to provide that animal with the best life you are able, anything less and you're just an asshole who shouldn't be allowed to own a pet.
my cats (i have three, 1 for each of my children) are part of the family and even though they are adopted, they are still part of the family, until the day they die. i wouldn't change my feeling's on that for any woman on the planet.

I got a Ball python Named 'Cannabis'. I bought him abought a month and a half ago. Being a snake alot of people arent crazy about them or are afraid, so its more difficult keeping one. Im 22 and still at home(soon to move out). I can already imagine the reactions future landlords and potential girlfriends are going to have. Most people dont think out the comitment and flood the animal shelters because there morons.

Back in the 80s I had a mutt, Levi, and had to give him away due to no living situation with him.
Still have the newspaper ad in my wallet.
Still remember to this day how he just knew what was up and how he tried to tell me I was making a bad mistake.
If not for his going to a great acreage home I'd still be haunted in memories.
I have a lady Doberman who came into my life at her young age of 1 1/2 years.
She's 6 as of this last September.
Not stoned now...been over 2 months dammit....and what all happened when I got her was a God given miracle.
Literally.
I trained her to be the lady she is and she lives to please me and those nearest to me.
She guards and protects me and my close by neighbors and has even saved a life of a man who in the dead of winter late at wee hours was bleeding to death.
She fretted for nearly an hour before I had had it and went out with her to see what she was so concerned about.
Across the street a ways there was a man in the gutter with a slit throat.
I put her in a sit/stay command and tended to the nearly dead man.
The rescue came and went and a couple who were med docs commented on that dog.
Almost 2 hours and there she was where I had her stayed.
They got a Doberman for their little kids because of my lady and even my landlords got one for their family after meeting mine several times.
Doorman's will share their home and even let you drive their car.
She has saved theft for her neighbors, always wants to greet them coming home and is always alert 24/7 without fail.
At home she acts like a 6 month old Lab and in public she puts on her Dobe act.
Everywhere she goes she gets all the attention just by her being herself.
Since I got her I could sleep safe knowing she would alert me if needed and my life had been rewarded in more ways than one might think possible.
I have her very well trained and she knows over 60 commands...verbal and signs.
Training a Doberman is the easiest to do as they are uncanny in their extremely fast ability to understand and to please.
Anything that happens 3 times and liked is a habit from then on so always mindful of caring not to teach her something regretted.
Slow to never to forget.
Dobe's have nick names and velcro is among them.
They don't hafta be the center of attention....just included off the side.
They only want to be where their owner is and all else is secondary.
Had a best friend lady here for several years and she ended up in the living room by her own damn choice when she bitched of the Dobe stretching out in bed at times.
Well....she went back to Texas a couple of months ago because she said it was her or the Dobe.
Dobe here....she gone.
Hey...I'm not one to fuss over a dog and never poochie woochie them.
My lady Doberman is a life time best friend to me and I am to her.
She would never adjust for a life without me and I know I could not without her.
Dobermans are medium sized 50+ #ers and aren't high maintenance dogs.
They're great indoors and outdoors and love to ride anywhere in their car they let you drive.
Make super service dogs and hospitals and patients alike love their strong nature to sense a person's wellness and moods....and especially heart.
Smart, stunning good looks and an air of diplomacy about them always in front of strangers and public places.
I quite literally would and will shoot anyone who would ever attempt to hurt her or try and dog-nap her.
Be it emotionally attached.....or just love, respect and appreciate her...I would NEVER betray her for anyone, anything.
I know for a fact she would never leave me and for that, I could never do her anything less.
All she asks of me is food, water and some attention and affection whenever I'm inclined.
She never becomes a pain in the butt for attention or anything else.
Just a soft breath on the arm to a whisker tickle and if need be a low grrrr to get a moment's notice.
She politely lets me know when she wants out and lets me know she's in so I can close the door.
She can open and close the summer time door and takes care of her grooming....prinning like cats do.
Cleanest dog of them all and never destructive.
Would never consider taking food off the table and never begs when eating.
I will always respect and appreciate my Doberman and if some rental was an ass about her then they are the ass wipes...not her.
They say ignorance is bliss.
But having a Doberman in life is far more than bliss.
It is simply and sincerely a blessing.

I bet most peoples pets would give them up for a piece of ass, even a piece of food for that matter. Not to say people should behave according to the same standards.
I think a long term issue would be, how could you trust somebody who did that, he clearly would have no problem kicking you to the curb for a new partner, lets hope it wouldn't be a new pet! That would be ironic, and humiliating. :D

Would you give up your pets for a lover
Thankfully I can't say I have ever been in this difficult situation. I would like to say a definitive "NO" but relationships require compromise, and I think in most cases one could be met. If it were a stubborn matter of "the pets or me" I would probably choose the pets because I don't think ultimatums are appropriate in this sense, but it depends entirely on the situation. Multifaceted, life.

The only reason I would give up my cat would be if it meant the difference between having a roof over my head, or not.

Rather be alone with my puppy than have a lover and be without him.
Besides, everyone digs him, he's the ultimate stoner dog.
