1,000,000 Iraqis dead since the invasion of 2003
SHAMEFUL. America is shameful. There is no other way to describe us right now.
I don't know if this really deserves to be in "Politics," but I think we know what has caused this disease to humanity.
-------------------------------------------------------
LONDON (Reuters) - More than one million Iraqis have died as a result of the conflict in their country since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, according to research conducted by one of Britain's leading polling groups.
The survey, conducted by Opinion Research Business (ORB) with 2,414 adults in face-to-face interviews, found that 20 percent of people had had at least one death in their household as a result of the conflict, rather than natural causes.
The last complete census in Iraq conducted in 1997 found 4.05 million households in the country, a figure ORB used to calculate that approximately 1.03 million people had died as a result of the war, the researchers found.
The margin of error in the survey, conducted in August and September 2007, was 1.7 percent, giving a range of deaths of 946,258 to 1.12 million.
ORB originally found that 1.2 million people had died, but decided to go back and conduct more research in rural areas to make the survey as comprehensive as possible and then came up with the revised figure.
The research covered 15 of Iraq's 18 provinces. Those that not covered included two of Iraq's more volatile regions -- Kerbala and Anbar -- and the northern province of Arbil, where local authorities refused them a permit to work.
Estimates of deaths in Iraq have been highly controversial in the past.
Medical journal The Lancet published a peer-reviewed report in 2004 stating that there had been 100,000 more deaths than would normally be expected since the March 2003 invasion, kicking off a storm of protest.
The widely watched Web site Iraq Body Count currently estimates that between 80,699 and 88,126 people have died in the conflict, although its methodology and figures have also been questioned by U.S. authorities and others.
ORB, a non-government-funded group founded in 1994, conducts research for the private, public and voluntary sectors.
The director of the group, Allan Hyde, said it had no objective other than to record as accurately as possible the number of deaths among the Iraqi population as a result of the invasion and ensuing conflict.

I'd be interested in finding this report. the numbers I heard were in the range of 300,000 people (which is still a lot). But i'm also curious to see if this includes military dead from the actual war, as well as insurgents, the people the insurgents killed, as well as civilian casualties.
ive noticed that now that we are in full election swing, iraq coverage has sputtered to a stop...
America, fuck yeah

I don't know the station your watching but I haven't seen anything of the sorts for MONTHS now. Hell, even Hillary is trying to take credit for the surge and what it has accomplished.
As for the numbers; when someone can seperate the amount killed by coallition forces compared to terrorist attacks then pay a bit more attention.

Out of curiosity, what would you do if the chinese military occupied the gulf of mexico with naval fleets, and established military bases in our cities, and our streets were full of chinese soldiers?? I think I'd pull an Iraqi on them and just go ahead and go buy a shitload of ammo and shoot at them and stuff, and probably try to kill and blow up as many of the soldiers I could before losing my own life. Because my country is important to me, this is my land, and fuck anyone who wants to come here with a gun telling me how to live. How about you, P4B??

However, as einstein said (and is sometimes misunderstood) - God does not play dice with the universe - to me that means something distinctly different than god does not exist (which it may to some of you) - It means God *is* the universe! <end random vaguely related fact>

So are you also saying that more than 70% of the U.S. were happy about the Chinese invasion? If we're going to make a comparison at least let it be apples to apples instead of apples to oranges.

I think the religious fanatics that have occupied Iraq after the invasion, and family members of those civilians killed, the ones that are killing our soldiers that are in their country, I might add, don't seem to be too happy with the occupation of their holy land...I think I'd damn well be pissed if china occupied our country..or any one else for that matter, aside from our nation's own forces. I'm not a religious fanatic by any means, but I think if a soldier shot any member of my family I wouldn't be very happy...especially if they were here for oil.
And now, we're re-arming the sunni's, the old henchmen of sadaam hussein..Gee I wonder what they're going to do with all those guns we give them...
It's not our job to police the world..We can't afford it anymore.

So let's just keep sending more young men and women of this country to get killed? Because we were led into a war by lies and deception? Sure, let's go another four years, then they might just settle this thousand year holy war! I think not, there's no definition of winning, it's much too broad, to not leave until things are 'settled' means to stay there forever, and I don't think we have the money or lives for that? Oh wait, a draft...Ahh, yes, we can get all the troops we need into Iraq. Fuck that. Our troops need to be defending our country, not the fucking middle east or the rest of the world.

The number of roadside bombs found in Iraq declined dramatically in August and September from earlier this year, and U.S. officials say the discoveries of thousands of ammunition caches might explain the drop.
On Monday, the U.S. command in Baghdad also said rocket and mortar attacks have dropped to their lowest levels in 21 months. The tallies were issued a day after Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said suicide attacks and other bombings in Baghdad also declined.

That's always the catch phrase with the left in here.....must be watching FOX. LMAO....even the dems in the debates are stating that the surge has had a VERY positive effect and that violence is down!
Provinces handed over to Iraq forces:
"Within the next 3-4 months is a plausible timeframe for the turnover of Anbar province, but again only if conditions on the ground warrant turnover," Smith said in an e-mailed response to questions from Reuters.
US could hand over Iraq's Anbar in March-April | Reuters
This would make number 10 out of 18. A year ago when the dems were crying for us to run they stated that Al-Quada had total control of this province. How times a are changing.
Hillary and Obamas plan to allow a minimal force to be left to take care of 100,000 coallition civillian workers and Iraqi's that helped up out is a joke!
If you want to see more of the past with our soldiers being kidnapped and beheaded....vote for the Dems in "08". If you want to see the entire middle east turn into a battle ground and the price of gas go to $15/gal. or higher, vote for Ron Paul.

This war is pointless and always has been from the get go. How can anyone who supports this war have any confidence that we will be able to destroy an idea? It's absurd to think we can win this war and destroy an idea that has been in that land for a very long time. The longer we are there the more incentive it gives for every man, child, and woman to pick up a weapon and defend there families. We have destroyed Iraq all over control. We were lied to from the beginning and what makes all of you supporters think we are not being lied to today? We need to get out and get out now. It was a horrible idea to go in and it's even more dangerous to stay.

no we shouldnt stay there forever. i hate the idea of our kids getting killed. and no we are not goin to settle a thousand year holy war. but we cannot just go somewhere and competly destabilize a country then just up and leave. i want nothing more than to see our troops come home. but what is goin to happen if we pull all our troops out tommorow? there is no stable gov't there no stable military. iran is right next door just itching to roll across the border. and if iran were to take iraq that would be a very bad thing indeed. once that happens guess wich way they will head next. isreal perhaps? then once isreal falls we will have no allies in he middle east. saudi will jump on there band wagon as quick as they can. and kuwait, well we had to help them once before so they wont stand a chance. IF this senario was to happen it would economically cripple us. if the irainians controll the oil $100 a barrel is goin to seem like a bargain. now how is that goin to effect the avarage person? well we already know that from gas prices. so whats goin to happen when gas goes to $20 or $30 a gallon. that means the price of everything goes up. i dont like the idea of $10 loaf of bread. that means employers are goin to have topay you more so that means they will have to charge more for their products or services wich now means $15 for a loaf of bread. but lets see we could just send our military back in and take the oil. oh but wait all them vehicles need oil and fuel to run. the gov't does not get that for free they have to buy it to. and they pay the same price as the average consumer in the US. wich means thay will raise taxes. and if we were to go and invade because of all this the arabs are goin to cut off all there oil from us. i wouldnt supply the oil for you to attack me. so now they have efectivaly crippled the most powerful military in the world. now all this has happened lets look at whats goin on in the US. the people are goin to be angry and i could see an uprising. not the entire US is destabilized opening us up for an invasion thatwe will not be able to fend off. yeah we may put up a good fight but shotguns wont go far against a well orgnized and equiped military. wich leave us only one alternative, nuclear war.
i know this may be a far out scenario to many but it is a possibility. and its one that i dont much enjoy the thought of.
i was against this war from the get go. i still am against this war. i want our kids home and safe. i have been protesting the invasion fom the day i heard about it. i knew then it was wrong. but now that we are in this we must leave knowing that iraq is stable. there will never be peace over there but lets just make it so that they can defend themselves. saddam hussein as a brutal dictator but at lest they were not vulnerable with him in charge.
i also totaly agree with you that our troops need to defend us and not everyone else in the world.

Destroy the idea..no; let them set up training camps to work out of...again no! IF we leave Iraq in a mess that'll be exactly the case and we'll be back there in a matter of years because of an attack on us. Dangerous to stay....a hell of alot more dangerous for us to leave.

training camps to work out of again..I don't believe that al queda was in Iraq before we invaded...best place of any, where they look like any other civilian, only they have ak-47's under their jackets..
And I actually don't remember hearing of all of these car bombings, and suicide bombings, or such a high amount of Iraqi civilians being killed before the invasion..

So how long between the Declaration of Independence untill we had a functional government? That's considering that we didn't have mortar attacks, IED's, or some of the other special things that they have going against them. You have three major factions that are learning how to live together....hell, they should be commended just for being able to construct a constitution agreeable to all factions in the short period of time that they did it in. some people miss the point. US mil invaded a country illegally without provocation (Iraq) and most certainly without justification (btw for those already shaking their heads, justification means reasonable proof guys look it up). Information supporting their argument is supressed and ignored by themselves. (Where is the overwhelming evidence on 9/11 - missing, thats what guys)
IF they remove all the evidence from a crime scene before it is inspected by FEMA then they deserve neither sympathy nor justification in their little war game.
I'm still frankly AMAZED how this "war on terror" works.
Guys, war on terror?! Think about it, how does that work exactly? The whole idea of terrorism is to create a massive rift between the invaded and the invader, and it works. The republican government said they could win, and I'm not convinced. Terrorism will continue to exist in the country - this is NOT like what happened in Ireland in Europe man, this is genocide. Genocide - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Further to that, the United Nations to which the US is a signatory declared any war in Iraq to be fundamentally illegal. This advice was ignored and the United States Government is in breach of it's own international treaty.
I feel like a moron, I hope anyone who argues for us to "stay there and minimize the damage" feels a bit silly too. We clearly fucked up something here so other than continuing to argue for a bullshit war maybe we should consider the fact that you cannot free a people from one dictator and replace them with another; which is clearly the occupying forces.
Many apologies to possible republicans; my ideas are socialist and you are at liberty of democracy and free speech to ridicule me for my feelings. Please though, provide a reason :-)

Why is it so hard to see people are people? If most of the terrorists on the planes were Saudis, then why did we not bomb Saudi Arabia?
Why did Bush hold hands with and kiss the King of Saud right after?
If we invaded Iraq because there was a brutal dictator ruling the country, why don't we invade Sudan, Pakistan, North Korea, or China?
If we invaded for oil, why don't we invade Canada, Mexico, or Venezuela.
If we invaded for WMD's, then why are we using depleted uranium, and white phosphorous?
The idea of preemptive war is completely unconstitutional. We never should have went there. It's time to bring our troops home.

In short? Because we are mad conspiracists that believe in the Global Government New World Order!; I was mad 5 years ago for suggesting it, but as the new world government is forming as we speak in brussels I will still remain the same whacko conspiracy theorist... it sucks but it is true.
I say it in a light hearted manner, as many people, will never listen and that is human nature it seems, in favor of ignorance over information, arrogance over ego. War over peace, and misguided justification systems in economies which are simply as idealic and imaginary as most "political and sociological systems refered to as idealist".
It's a bummer. Really is. There are a lot of like minded people that may one day change that.

No other major outlets jumping on this 'factual' representation of fact? No curiosity as to why?

these are not the evil WMD's. the uranium is used mostly as armour on tanks. that has saved many lives. or would we rather that our troops go out on the battle feild with no armour on the tanks. they also use it as the projectile on tank rounds. they do not expode but penatrate just the same as a bullet. more or less an oversized bullet.
white phosporous and red dont forget that one, is used mainly as illumition rounds. in other words to light up the battlefeild at night. they are also used in incinerary gernades wich are used to destroy equipment. the US has not used phosporous on people since vietnam. we do not have the rounds for that in our arsenal.
either way they are not WMD's the tank round kills at max 4 people the phosphoruos if used as anti-personal in artillary may kill 15-20. not the hundreds like nuclear bio or chemical weopons. the only WMD that we have in our arsenal is nuclear weopons. uforntunatly we have more than anyone else in that catagory

US re-evaluating troop pull out in light of recent bombings.
BBC NEWS | Middle East | US may pause Iraq troop pull-out
I hate to sound smug in light of the recent atrocities in Iraq. There is NO WAY the war hawks deserve any credit for anything they have done in Iraq. They've done fuck all to improve things in the middle east.
