I love Goodwill! They have the coolest stuff. I get silver things from there all the time, clean them up in less than an hour, and sell them on eBay :)
Their book selection is always changing, and I've found some cool paintings there as well.
I was at Goodwill this morning with my sisters, and I happened upon this awesome twisted and pulled Canada Dry glass green bottle; it was only 3 bucks, so I bought it, now I'm wondering what I want to do with it ;)

im jealous of your find, the good wills here in fredneck are filled with useless dribble of childrens toys, and rustic redneck nic nacs, your big city good wills have interesting stuff.
LOL I live in a dinky little road "town;" our downtown has a Subway and a gas station...
my downtown, has a general store, and antique shops, thats the antique capital for yah, but fred is only a few minutes away, but everyone here is so poor that nothing in the goodwills is any good, there is too much of a gap in the area to be good, and i cant even make my own bongs from something like that, cause we never see anything worth anything to anybody for less than what it could be worth, i dont know if anyone can follow but it meant that they charge the same price for the raw piece as they would for the finished piece because they know that someone will make something worth that much from it.

it is sad, and the fact that its the only thing i know saddens me even more, i have yet to decide where im moving too when the time comes right, ive thought of across the country, down the road a few towns, canada, europe, its just i only know about 10 people really well, and leaving that is intense, but the time passes quickly, as i drive 15 minutes to get anywhere.

I've done a lot of community service there down here in Atlanta, and there's usually some good stuff. I wish I could find a bottle like that, I'm sure it'd make an excellent smoking device.
I don't exactly know how to use a drill, I've drilled like one thing in my lifetime; I'm considering getting a diamond drill bit, and practicing on various glass objects before I go drilling this baby... I don't exactly know how to, though. I know you need to 'lubricate' the bit while drilling; I'm probably incorrectly assuming that means spraying it with water or something?
As for the Slutzky poster, it was one of those campaign ones a few years ago, my friends and I stole it, haha.

That stretched glass is extremely thin.
I'm only drilling the base of the bottle, its thickness hasn't been altered in any apparent way, would it still make a difference?
Make sure you drill it in like a bucket or something filled with water so you can have the drill bit and bottle submerged, so the water can suppress some of the strain that the drill may cause.... GL with it
Oh.... and the water stops the fumes from going into the air, saving your lungs
I hate to be the party pooper but instructions for DIY waterpipes are on the 'do not discuss please' list as of quite recently in case you haven't checked the new rules in the last week or so...
I love thrift shops in general. They are AWESOME and I get ALL my jeans there -RECYCLE BABY!- and a lot of my furniture and kitchen crap too. One funny thing about shopping the thrift stores is that my eyes don't get irritated from the outgassing of new clothes like they do at department stores. Plus they are usually quieter, with few crowds.
Sorry, SA, didn't see that! I'll take note. I looove getting my jeans from Goodwill- SO CHEAP! And I feel much more comfortable in worn-in jeans, too. I've got a bunch with patches and cool stuff.Quote:

yeah, now the salvation army in fredrick is sweet, they got furniture and stuff, i got a normal couch for 12 dollars, it was white so i could see there wasnt any real dirt on it and all, and it only ended up costing me 24 total because of 10 for gas for the person with the truck, and 2 bucks for some rope from the dollar store next door. but ive thought about exploring the town for an antiquey place that sells stuff like that, id like to find a glass tube of sorts to make a steamroller out of, that would be so sweet.
I know that instructions for making water pipes are forbidden now, so I won't advise on that. But I do think your cool bottle would look better with a hole in it. Maybe make a lamp and run the cord out through the hole. Here's some info on how to drill a hole in a bottle, for whatever reason:

Seriously, that would actually make a really cool lamp- drill a hole in the thicker bottom portion, put the lightbulb and other jazz there, and have the shade sit on the mouth of the bottle.
Goodwill's the only place I'll get heavy REAL pea coats for dirt cheap :)
