Personally i think they're both absolute shit.
Go to download.com type in Avast
Spybot is good too. Both free.
thanks for the tip reefer i'll check them out:thumbsup:
Also take a look at AVG Free and AVG Anti-Spyware Free.
Just so you know, norton is terrible :)
I agree with the other replies here, the good anti-virus/spyware software is available for free...I suggest investing in a few geeky contacts, they'll know the score.
Stay off the dodgey sites though!
Get NOD32 is good too, also this free one Antivir
Yup, I was gonna suggest NOD32 as well.Quote:

There are free alternatives as others have suggested, although I've learned to not have much confidence in them. The timeliness of definition updates with free products can leave a lot to be desired, and often times features you really need are left out, or dangled in front of you only to be enabled if you pay them.
But even something ho-hum is better than nothing at all, especially if you leave your PC on all the time connected to the web via broadband.
If I had to recommend one product to someone looking to keep their rig problem free at this time, it would be Kaspersky 7.0
Very impressed with it.
Spybot is pretty good.
if you have comcast internet, mcafee internet protection is free.
I'm going to put in another vote for Avast. It's free and comes with the recommendation of my buddy who is the public works department IT guy for a large city.
I use AVG anti virus free edition and haven't had a problem yet.
AVG
First as the topic is anti virus i shall answer this first. As someone else mentioned nod32 is one of the best on the market with Kaspersky, although i recommend kaspersky 6.0 and not 7.0. If you are looking to use a free AV then use either avast or AVG as also mentioned.
Next you need a firewall which i recommend using Zonealarm as its free and is easy enough to use for noobs. Google around if you want to do some of your own testing.
There is also a problem with adware, spyware and malware. As also mentioned above use spybot search and destroy. In conjunction with this i recommend using adaware personal and ccleaner. All these software products are free for personal use.
When downloading files and if you are unsure if the content is safe the scan with an online scanner like virustotal.com.
Happy surfing :rastasmoke:
I use
AVG free edition AVG Free - Download antivirus and antispyware software for Windows XP and Vista
Spybot Search and Destroy The home of Spybot-S&D!
and
Adaware Ad-Aware 2007 Free - Lavasoft
I have never had a problem
I've used NOD32 ever since one of my employees got a virus that neither AVG or McAfee could find. It's lightweight and always in the top of antivurus ratings.
It does not do much for adware though.
I use Avast and it works great.
Use a linix operating system free, secure, faster, better.
