Hi All,
I'm going to be starting a 4x6 tray flood system with a 1000 hps. I'm looking for a good SOG strain. I'm just starting with AK-47. Anybody done this with AK? Anybody doing Sea of Green? Any pref on nutes? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the thing - while a sog may be an effective growing system, you really do have to have a whole lot of plants to do a sog and the penalties for growing go up with the number of plants you have.
Right now I have a 1,200watt four-plant 3'x6' scrog and a 1,000watt six plant 4'x5' scrog going. It would be interesting to compare yields with your 1k sog. I'm pretty sure I can meet or exceed your yield - and that's assuming/hoping both of us have successful and bountiful grows. The big advantage of the scrog, aside from having to maintain fewer plants, is that you can keep your plant count down - which can mean a lot less trouble for you if the defecation ever hits the rotary oscillator.

i like SOG, perpetual harvest type of grows better myself. depending on how i want to run the room i can pull 30 plants every 60 days or i can pull 15 plants every month or if i really wanted i could go down to pulling 5 plants every week.
i'm not near the limited on how many plants i can have but i can see it as being a problems for others. also maybe sog setups are to involved for some growers, i know when i had that setup it was a full time job but well worth it.
as for the op, use what you got it's all timing. i'm sure ak's will grow fine in a sog, you just need to fine tune your whole setup to know when to start clones and how long they like to take to get ready to transplant, and play with veg times till you fine the sweet zone for your setup and style of growing.
Before you grow SOG, make sure you look over the advantages and disadvantages. I used to grow SOG, however after awhile I eventually moved to regular growing methods instead of perpetual harvest methods. I am FAR happier now then I was before.
This is all my opinion from experience. There are a variety of issues and problems with growing SOG method. You can start anywhere but I think the biggest problem is cost and the fact that you never give your grow room a rest.
Having had to deal with a variety of issues ranging from mildew, mold, spider mites, etc etc, I have found that I consistently have less problems with less plants. When doing a ton of plants close together you are more likely to have circulation and mildew problems and if you ever get a pest, it will spread like wild fire. Its very difficult to get to the middle of your SOG to change or spray anything, etc. You will also have humidity hot spots, etc.
SOG also require a LOT of clones. In an area where i grow only 6 plants now, I would have had to grow 200 plants to obtain anywhere near the same yield. If you have your own mothers obviously this isnt as much of an issue, but think of the cost difference between 6 clones and 200 clones.
But my biggest issues with SOG is the perpetual harvest fact. It is such a great idea, and I have seen it done FLAWLESSLY. However, 75% of the time I see tons of problems with it. When you grow in a room without EVER cleaning it, without ever giving it a rest, with constantly having stuff starting from clone and ending in bud, there are problems. You increase your chances for mildews and pests 10 fold. Plus once you do get a problem, I can guarantee you will have a much harder problem getting rid of it since you never have a point where the room can lay dormant for a few days. I think this is a very advanced growing method that requires exceptionally clean equipment, lots of time and effort, and lots of very clean clones.
I look at everything from a perspective of how much money, how much time, and how much effort is used. For me, it costs less money, less time, and less effort when I grow less plants. I do miss an entire harvest during the year, but I consistently get better and more bud from less plants then SOG method. Its true that I have to wait in between my grows, but that is why I have multiple other grows going on different schedules. But they are different rooms. Thats the big difference.
If you have experience, if you have mothers, if you have no chance of pests or mildews, and would rather have a pound here and there then a bunch of weight all at once...then SOG is great. If its your first time, I would suggest trying SOG WITHOUT the perpetual harvest. Grow it all the way through, see how it goes, then start your perpetual.
PS. For a SOG strain, just look at something that grows taller and likes being single stalk. You dont want a ton of really short multi-headed plants. you want a bunch of taller single stalk plants. Single buds. You also probably want something that finishes early in 6-7 weeks to maximize it.
Thanks for all that info!! I have moms, sterile room, area to veg clones, and a system with two trays and res for the diff nutes in flower time. I want a strain that does exactly that, tall single stalk, 1 cola, up-buz, decent yeild, fast rooter. I plan to harvest twice a month. What do yall think?
sounds good if you have the space and time to put into it. we had real good luck with northern light crosses in our sog.

Well I've decided to go with DWC and use Advanced Nutes. Any help with feeding schedule would be awesome! I'll start a grow log soon!
Plants are transplanted from soil to DWC and standing straight up! Using advance and everything is going well....knock wood.
