What happened to the good smell of weed?

I goto the store to buy my meds and out of 25 or 30 different kinds of weed in their store, they only have one that smells good like marijuana is supposed to smell and the rest smells like friggin perfume.
Then these moronic youngsters that have no fucking clue what good weed smells like sit there and say things like "This is the best marijuana out there" I take a whiff and almost puke because it smells like shit.
I have been smoking marijuana since September of 1973 and know what weed is supposed to smell like, kind of like skunk piss. Even dirty Mexican shwag that you can buy on the street from idiotic gang bangers smells better than the shit they sell in the stores and it has seeds & stems all in it still making it more appealing than the so called good shit from the stores.
Where did all the good weed go?

i get a qp of some dense light green no seed "schwag" for 120.00 sometimes 130.00
when i sometimes get spoiled and buy "kush" or whatever i find myself getting
way more stoned smoking my regular shit.i cant take more than 3 fat bong rips of
the regular stuff cuz i get stuck.i mean real stoned like when the tv looks far away
and you get sick munchies and then laugh your ass to sleep

kush i can smoke all night long and i wont get to that level
it just tastes good and looks nice

That's why I like the good mids around my area, the taste and smell are very earthy and piney, stuff that DOES in fact smell skunky, and that's why I stick with it for smoking and cooking. I don't really like sweet or fruity like the kind bud and headies, yeah, they're cool to smoke once in a while if someone's got it, and it'll get me pretty stoned, but I prefer my nice smelling mids.

im a youngn (definately not born in 73(still old enough to be on the site though) and i know where youre coming from. My favoruite thing to smoke is good jamaican sess, the stuff where the buds are pressd so hard that theres marks from where they had to cut it with a saw. its not like i havnt had amnazing weed too, i live in toronto, and ive sampled the medical breeds, and truly, good sess is my FAVE.

You prefer to have your bud severely handled, damaging the trichomes? You'll take brick weed over perfectly grown, perfectly handled, perfectly manicured buds? I can understand a preference in taste and smell, but man, how he weed is handled dictates how well the bud smokes just as much as genetics or environment. I'm just baffled.

im a youngin too, but i much rather smoke the buds that when the bag gets opened up, its like a skunk just sprayed you in the face. i guess there is no despensories around here, the only bud i have smoked from one, blew me away. but that stuff had a medium smell to it, wasnt over powering, but just all in all a good smoke... sorry ::rant::

I couldn't agree with you more man.
I remember when i first started smoking, I would be excited to see the corner of my sack, where it was "freshly" ripped from the brick. That shits nasty, especially when you can get a crystally light green plarp of nuggets.
The way to go is mids though, its not as bad as shwag, and its not as expensive as nuggets:thumbsup:

It does not sound stupid, the green weed I remember from back then was lame ass homer that someone grew in their backyard. It tasted like shit and smelled even worse as it burned.
I remember smoking gold but the Mexican government in concert with our own twisted government put a stop to that weed with "paraquot" or how ever you spell it. What a waste of good weed.
No stems, no seeds, nothing you don't need
Acapulco Gold is some badass weed.
Now I only smoke what tastes good and smells better and only certain strains of kush is the only thing I can find with the right smell.

In my opinion, a nice green color means it was taken care of and was a happy plant...there are strains that have all sorts of pretty colors out there...you must've not been around when subcool was posting pics of his genetics..

I'm sure that buds are cured by people, if they aren't then they're obviously not very knowledgeable when it comes to marijuana..

the bud i useually get is very dark with the stink out your house skunk smell, but yesterday i was given some very light green bud imported from Amsterdam which had no smell and very little taste, it was ok, but i also like everyone else in this thread like to taste and smell what i'm smoking, it's all part of the whole smoking experience to me.

My weed smells great. After a short cure it smells even better.

I don't know, I prefer a fruity smell. I've grown so acustomed to the skunk smell, if I want to smell that I'll go stick my face in a growing tip of a plant in veg. Nothing in my mind is the complex fruity odors that come from mature buds. Sure at first the taste will be skunky, but when I exhale, I long for either that smooth berry taste that lingers in my mouth, or the twangy citrus flavour that also seems to hang in the air after a hit.

Flavour and taste are very important, but if my weed has adequate trichomes, then it's perfectly fine by me.

i like it when you smell a bud..and you just want to eat it :D

lol its all personal preference, i and the majority of the cannaseurs out there prefer all the new flavors and smells of bud. I am a fan of variety, and to have a single smell of marijuana would be imo very boring, and lackluster.

Please also, don't generalize. I am not going to lie, even though i am 19, i still consider myself part of your "youngster" category and i am offended that you are not only putting words into peoples mouths, but you are criticizing them for having an opinion that differs to that of your own? Did you not think that they like the exotic smells of todays marijuana because that is what they grew up on, just like you grew up on the skunky smells of your day? We been smoking about the same amount of time...I been saying for a long time that the kids don't have a clue what really good weed is all about. I say its about 1 hit rocking your world, 2 hits and your locked down, 3 hits and you hear colors.

You know the stuff I am talking about... has no real smell at all until you crack open a bud, then it smells like pine trees.

To *MOST* of the kids on here, real, Northern Californian, Humboldt County Sensimillia is only a myth.... but thats what I grew up on.

There are problably only a select handfull on here that even know that *REAL* Thai sticks have the buds literally tied on bamboo sticks, let alone have had the pleasure of smoking the real thing.

Think back to 1979 or 1980 when "Sea Weed" showed up... it was real thai weed... a lot of it was tied on sticks. There were over 100 boxes that came to shore, each box was 1 cubic meter. Most got picked up by the Coast Guard.:mad: but there were several boxes that didn't get confiscated. :D

I've been saying for years that the best outdoor grown, often imported, weed was the most enjoyable. The above mentioned Thai sticks, and Columbian are perfect examples of fine marijuana. There are many, many more including types from Mexico, Panama, and other parts of the world that most people under 40 have not experienced. The word "strain" was not used.

Many of the overbred, artificially grown indoor varieties also seem to cause other problems, such as paranoia, depression and physical symptoms. Threads adressing these problems have become a regular feature on this website.

I wonder if the recent discussions on this board about marijuana "addiction" would even be taking place if these types of marijuana were not so popular.

These opinions do anger some of the growers that are producing the contemporary mj "strains", but the consumers have a right to be heard.

what I do is: First I let my children grow up and then blossom. then I cut down after 12 weeks. then dry and cure my children.

then I smoke my children. and they usually tast like a fruity sativa and get me wiped for hours.

While I can appreciate skunk piss, and can see how Chanel #5 could be a caustic smell, I am a big fan of what I like to call "fruit salad" weed. :)

Put a fat gold bud on a roach clip light it and snort your brains out get head baked with your eyes so closed you cant see, resin in your nose is so thick you smell it the next morning kinda smell

I have actually smoked some quite mediocre weed and gotten more stoned then off some stuff that smells Better.

I think that now days people are to much into the analysis,smell and all the material stuff when weed is made to get you stoned and that's it.

The fact is that in the nature of the cannabis plant, with so many different phenotypes, is to have many different smells. Ive had all kinds of bomb pot, some smelling like skunk, some smelling like cat piss, some smelling like gym socks, even some that smelled like lemons. Pot can have any smell and still be just as good as the shit with the skunky smell. Personally, i have smoked massive amounts of the reggie and the beaster and i get way higher smokin the dank shit that smells like chanel number 5. but what im smokin on now actually smells like skunk piss. so that works.

I'm one of them, lol! It's been well over 25 years since I've had any, though.

The primo Thai Stick weed had about 7 to 8 sticks per ounce, and it was pure heaven.

There were cheaper varieties of Thai, including small green sticks, and chocolate Thai that was loose (not on sticks).

BRING BACK THAI!!!!!

The Smelll is gone because of these machines they use to kill odor, if they are to close to the plants and grow room they will ruin the weed..

also all the old school growers are in Jail or running from the boys in blue..

As I mentioned before, I LOVE sticking my head into a bag of decent mids, taking a big whiff, and just smelling that nice earthy aroma... Sweet smelling buds never did much for me, but skunky weed? MMM.

I live in the sticks, and I confess when I pass an area of road/field in which a skunk has sprayed/died, and I smell that skunky skunk smell, I breathe in :stoned:
