Bubba Kush Grow log w/lst topping future scrog

Hello, this is my second grow, my first i did a dwc outdoors with 3 plants and got just over a qp. So this is my 1st indoor grow and I'll be using some in coco and some is peat moss, both with perlite of course and i put some lime in with the peat. I even have 1 in half coco half peat just for kicks... Im using botincare nutrients Pro Grow and Liquid Karma plus some Cal Mag but from advanced not botanicare. I use what I got... Right now there under a 4 ft T5 on 24/7. I got them as clones from a friend and were already well rooted in rockwool. I have had them about 2 weeks now and they all seem to be growing so fast! I was suprised cause I did Hydro last time and I thought soil would be a lot slower. I will be flowering with at least 1600 watts all hps. Either a 1000 and a 600 or 2 600s and a 400. I haven't decided yet? Maybe you guys can chime in. My flower space is 7'x about 4'. Right now I'm vegging in the same place I'll flower just cause I don't have any to flower yet...I know I'll be needing a bigger fan than the one I currently have cooling the hoods. I was thinking of getting one of the duct booster fan that could go inbetwwen the hoods. There only $35 for a 6" and has a decent cfm. I topped and attempted to FIM a few branches tonight for the 1st time, we'll see how they take to it.

These seeds I started about 3 weeks ago and are starting to take off. They should all be sage n sour that I got from a local cannabis club. Some of the best weed I've smelt and smoked. 4 of them look the same but 1 has a little broader leaves so I may have got my seeds mixed up...oh well

Well I gave them their first dose of Co2 yesterday, and I can say they look noticeably bigger in just 24hrs. There still in veg as I'm waiting on a 1000 watt hps bulb that I ordered. Plus I'm still battling some spider mites, and I juts recently found out I have a reel bad root aphid infestation on my 1 big sange n Sour. I'm getting some nematodes, lace wigs, and aphid parasites tomorrow and I'm ordering the spider mite predators that should be in by wed. I tried the No pest strips and they seemed to work at first, but the mites keep coming back even though I 've left the strips out the entire time! Surprisingly this new Store I found is pretty cheap on predators. Nematodes are like $20, lace wigs are $15 spider mite predators are $30 and the aphid parasites are the most at $75. Hes also got praying mantis's, but I think I would be poking around looking through my plants and not see the thing and have it attack me! Or maybe I'm just stoned:rasta:

Here they are at about 6 weeks veg...I ended up just drilling a buch of holes around the bucket and then tying down all the main branches instead of doing a scrog. Right now it kinda looks like a nice even canopy without the screen. Lets hope it stays that way.

So I scored a light mover today for $50! Its used but seems to work fine. It has 2 3'2" tracks that connect and has an adjustment knob for the delay when it gets to one end. I'm already running out of room and things are only gonna get more crowded as I switch to flower. So now I'm gonna put the 1000 watt on the mover and put the 600 a little be forward so that way i can have 5 plants under the 1000 and the other 3 under the 600 watt. My only concern is that I want to still be able to air cool both hoods. Does anyone have any good ideas for keeping the venting from binding up or ripping apart? I also got my 1000 watt hps bulb in and my new Sun System 6" A/C hood with the built in flanges...SWEET!! Its Flower time... I talked my buddy who owns a hydro shop and he was saying I should spray with B-52 from Advanced before switching to help keep the plants from stretching a lot in the first 2 weeks. I think I'm gonna try it...I also will be feeding them some BUD Blood just for the first week of flower, and I got a free 130g of Big Bud for weeks 2-5 of flower. Then i have some Overdrive for the last 3 weeks of flower, plus I got some Gravity that I'm gonna try also used in the last 2-3 weeks of flower. So what do you guys think???

Wow this is a real active thread...For anyone who's interested my ladies have been switched to 12/12. Let the flowering begin! Its day 2 and they seemed to stretch a few inches overnight. I'd post pics but they're not much to see but big green leaves. I've finally got my spider mite predators and some lace wings eggs. I also have the beneficial nematodes going too. I wanna get some more lady bugs. The guy said to spray them with 1/2 soda 1/2 water to glue their wings shut and i think it killed them. They were almost all dead within a day. :(

Thanks for checking it out. They are actually all clones except for the big one which was a seed, sage n Sour, that I started about 8 months ago. First it was outside last summer then started to flower, female, for 3 weeks or so and was put under a fluorescent to re-veg. Eventually I moved to a new spot and put her under a T-5 for a few months, and now for the last month she has been under a 600 watt hps. I started out with 4/5 seeds being female that I wanted to make mothers but 3/4 have since died. This plant is the one that just won't quit and now after her roots being torn to shreds by aphids shes starting to come back strong. I feel I owe it to her to flower after all shes been through. So their all girls, unless I fuck up the light cycle and they hermie. Anyways glad you got your bug problem under control. I still haven't seen any lace wing larvae around yet. Just a few green eggs and a lot of grey ones left on the cards they come stuck on.

Plants are lookin good man.. Nice big bushy fuckers.. If there all fems there gonna be alot of bud on them.. Good luck with the rest of your grow man...:thumbsup::jointsmile:

So its day 6 of flower, and time for an update. I'm still having trouble with root aphids and spidermites. So I went and got 1500 lady bugs and 2 Praying Mantis Casings that contain 50-200 eggs. It said to hang the casing from a branch and then the mantids would hang down from a silk thread dry out and then go about there way. I also read you can just put the casing in a paper bag and hatch them in there then take them out as needed. My grow area is only a 7x7' room and my actual flowering area is only 21 sqft. so how many mantids should I release?

Here's what I've been feeding them:

Botanicare Pro bloom- 5-7ml/gal about 500ppm
Liquid karma-5-7ml per gal
sweet-5ml/gal
Hydrogaurd-8ml/gal

Advanced Nutrients:
Sensi-Cal Grow- 5-7 ml total raise total tds about 300ppm
Voodoo Juice-10ml/gal
Pirrana- .6g per litre (1st 2 weeks of flower only)
Bud Blood- .5g per litre (1st week of flower only)
Carbo Load 5ml/gal
Sensizym-10ml/gal

This is just for the 1st few weeks of flower then I will be using AN big bud during weeks 2-6 I think, then AN Overdrive weeks 7-8, plus I got some Gravity to use in the last 3 weeks of flower also...

Then I raise the ph from about 4.5-5.0 up to 6.3

Well the girls are sleeping right now, but I got a few shots of them last night when the lights were on. They are on day 10 flower. Just starting to develop little buds with pistils forming:thumbsup: The root aphids were getting out of control so I gave up on my beneficial insects and got some neem oil concentrate, 70% neem oil, and mixed that in with my nutrients and some penetrator to make it more slippery and not clog my roots. Well its been 2 days since and so far it seems to have killed them all. I also mixed up a foliar spray with the neem and penetrator and soaked the entire plant. So I've got my fingers crossed. If the neem oil doesn't work then I've got some Systemic pesticide by Ortho, formerly called Isotox...This was recommended by by the hydro guy and is said to kill everything in the soil, larvae and aphids. Hopefully it wont kill my piranha and voodoo juice, beneficial bacteria... I also got a Pyrethrum Fogger that I've been using to kill all the flying aphids and any other crawling aphids that have jumped ship. I just went through my first 20lbs of Co2. It lasted about 2-1/2 weeks and I had it set at 950ppms on my green air digital sequencer. I read in a ed rosanthal Q&A that if you have anywhere from 60-100watts per sq/ft. that you can bump the Co2 up to 2000ppm's. But from what I've read here everyone says to match co2 ppm with your nutrients ppms. So I Have about 75 watts per sq/ft so I moved the co2 up to 1500 and I'll see how she does there. Then if they like that I'll move it up to 2000. They are really starting to stretch, here some pics

Well I'm 2 1/2 weeks into flower and buds are beginning to form nicely. The plants stretched a lot in the first 2 weeks, but have slowed down the last few days. On the tops that were stretching too tall I bent them over to be even with the rest of the canopy. I'm testing my light mover over night with a hood and glass to make sure it's working. I bought it used and when I first set it up with all the weight on it the thing would slip. So my friend gave me a new wheel and I adjusted the motor and re bent the spring and its working a lot better. If its still going strong in the morning then I'm gonna hook it up tomorrow. I also got another 4" in-line can fan so I'll have 1 fan for each light, plus I have the 165cfm duct booster. I was reading that light mover are supposed to improve lighting by 1.6??? So does that mean a 1000 watt light is now 1600watt? I'm having issues with my Green Air Cdds-2 C02 sequencer. My friend turned it off while we were in the room, why I do not know, and every since its been acting funny. The take will have gas, and my ppm set at 1500 and I will get a reading of 0 or 10ppm and it won't turn on the regulator to release the gas. So i will reset the cdds-2 and it will work again for a while the n fuck up again...Plus I went through a tank in about a week, when the 1 st tank lasted me 2 1/2. I did raise the ppms but not by double. This time instead of getting the tank exchanged I found a place to get it filled. Plus it was $5 cheaper:thumbsup: I weighed the tank when I got home 46lbs. So it should weight 26lbs empty seeing as its a 20lb tank.

looking good. very nice close ups. what kind of camera do you use? It seems your plants are about the same age as mine, but I just can't seem to get any close ups that will do it justice. any tips?

The Camera is a Olympus D-490 Zoom. 2.1 MP. I have tried taking pictures with a few different settings, there's one with a flower, one with a spade, and then there's just the normal zoom. Honestly I have yet to figure out which settings is best. I just took about 30 + pics almost all close ups and only came away with 3-4 decent pics. I also have tried holding a piece of white paper over the light to help with the Orange tint, kinda worked. Just takes patience and a steady hand and some luck. :thumbsup:

Well week 5 is almost done and the buds are starting to swell up nicely and are already very dense and solid little nugs. Trichome production is coming along nicely and the tips of the pistols are starting to all turn red/orange. I'm not sure how many week strain Bubba Kush is but I read on Thseeds website that Sage N sour has a 9 week flower. The SnS nugs are a little bigger but the BK are more dense just a little smaller. I'm guessing they need at least 3 weeks more, if not four. I'm not going for a couch lock effect so I'll probably harvest when I have a 10% amber ratio.

On a side note, I had to flush the plants a week ago due to very high ppm runoff on a few plants, plus they hadn't been feed plain water for far too long. Only half the plants were yellowing in the fan leaves, but I flushed all the plants. The ones that were yellowing now look to be yellowing even more. The 4 bigger plants were nice and green but one has started to show some weird wilting and the tips are brown but not dry and crispy??? I wonder if I flushed out all the nutes and they started feeding on themselves? Is it okay for fan leaves to start to turn yellow in week 6 of flower? The 4 that are yellowing are still really heavy and will need a few more days to dry before feeding but the big 4 got feed today. I wonder if the Co2 has any part in the smaller plants that are yellowing. Perhaps the bigger plants are able to take the co2 and the nutrients but its too much for the smaller plants. Would it be wise to mix up 2 different strength of nutes and use a lower ppm on the yellowing plants? The bud leaves are dark green and buds are forming nice just nit as big as the other plants.

Well its day 49 of flower and the nugs are getting bigger everyday! I got this $70 bad ass microscope, not your typical shitty pocket microscope, to check out the trichomes. On all the bubba kush they look to be 50% cloudy 50% clear, and on the Sage n Sour they look 60% cloudy 35% clear and 5% amber. How long does it normally take to go from cloudy to amber? I'll be checking them everyday from now until their finished. The BK have started to stink real good just in the last week or so, but the SnS has smelt like skittles for the last 2-3 weeks. As far as crystal production, the BK's nugs are very well coated with trichomes, but not so much on the bud leaves. The Sage n Sour is covered with white crystals on the nugs and on the leaves so I'll have some nice hash to be made. As you can see in the pics some of the fan leaves are dying. Part of it was caused by too high ppm runoff caused by not enough fresh water in between feedings. Plus I think the plants with the most yellow/brown leaves were planted in a mixture of coco and peat moss, and didn't have the correct ratio of lime added throwing of the ph. If I had planted all of them just in Coco I think my yield would have doubled, but you live and you learn. Anyways here's the pics :thumbsup:

Well its coming to the end of week 8 of flower and the girls are still alive so that's always a good sign :thumbsup: The Sage n Sour has just started to turn amber in the last few days, probably 5%. So I think I will give her one or two more watering's with some final phase and she's ready for harvest. I was a bit surprised to see the amber in the middle of week 8 because all the research I've done on SnS says that its a 9 week flower. I guess its not off by much, but I was wondering if the Co2 had anything to do with speeding things up? All the nugs are super dense especially the Bubba Kush. I haven't been able to find out the flowering time for Bubba Kush. So far most the trichs are all clear to cloudy so I think they have at least a week to 10 days more. I need these to hurry up and finish because my veg chamber is to full and getting smaller by the day.


I have taken I few sample cuts, 2 from the SnS and 1 from the BK all from small side branches. One of the SnS is already in a jar curing and the other two are still hanging up in a closet. I took a few shot of the 2nd SnS branch that I cut last night. Let me know what you guys think! Keep in mind its just a small side branch that was cut early.

I took a few more sample cuts, one of the Sage n Sour and one of the Bubba Kush. Again both are small side branch's, no colas yet.

Also I had to go over to IC to find some other Bubba growers and it looks like the average harvest time is at day 70 :wtf: Which is interesting because they look like there done, but all the trichomes are still clear to cloudy. Looks like I have at least 2 more weeks on the Bubba, day 56, but I'll keep checking trichome's everyday and won't go past 30% amber. On the other hand I think I will harvest the 3 small Bubba's I have in 5-7 days so I can have some morning/daytime smoke that won't knock me on my ass. I also found out that Bubba isn't a big yielder, which makes sense because none of the flowers look bigger than 4-5 grams. At least I vegged them for a long time and topped a lot of branches, plus all the Lst had to help. So on my 3 big Bubbas I', hoping for 3-5 ounces per plant. And then on the 4 small Bubba's maybe an ounce per plant. The SnS looks to be at 5-10% amber so I think she will be done within a week. I gave her her first does of final phase yesterday, and will give her at least one more watering with the final phase before harvest. She looks to be a decent yielding strain. Even though all she's been through, spider mites, root aphids, lockout, ph problems, ect. I think I'll get 4-6 ounces off her.

I was able to sample the fruits of my labor on some of the SnS that I had cut on 4/20. It had only been flushed with plain water for about a week when it was cut but there wasn't any snap crackle pop when smoked. The ash did burn black though with very little gray:( But it got me high and tasted OKAY. I know with a proper cure it will be some awesome smoke:)

The Bubba Kush branch was 8 grams wet and the Sage n Sour was 4.5 grams wet.

man, that sage n sour is some of the nicest herb i've ever smoked. bubba too of course. can't wait to hear your final harvest weight. looks to be good!

Well I was forced to harvest the 4 smaller Bubba Kush plants today. One had a light Spider mite infestation and they were moving from the fan leaves to the bud leaves on all the lower small growth, so they are out of the flower room, and soon to be hanging up to dry. I was planning on harvesting these 4 this week but not last night so it was definitely a bummer. I have been using the spider mite predators about every 2 weeks. It's the container with the 3 different species, and they were the 500 or 5000 predators containers which were the bigger ones soooo.. I don't know what else to do to kill them so late in flower other than predators and me pulling every leaf with signs of mites. Any tips??? I went thoroughly through the other 4 big plants and they had some mites on the lower fan leaves, but nothing to freak out about. I just had to removes the leaves, smash any mites I could find and throw away the leaves. I hope I can keep them under control for another 2 weeks so i can let the Bubba do her thing. Plus I am going to try and re-veg my best to Bubba's cause I was a moron and didn't take any cloans of her:( I have already trimmed one plant and its hanging to dry. I have 3 more to go...The first one came in at 111 grams wet so I hope for an ounce dry. My hands were SOOOOO sticky from all the trimming it was ridiculous. I would just about glue my fingers to a stem while trimming. Made a nice little hash ball from my hands and the scissors. Anyways will update with the wet weight from the other 3 later today. I also might be cutting down the SagenSour tonight, gotta check the trichs when the lights come back on.

The effectiveness of your predators can be improved or reduced by the environment. It depends on the species you use. Some like warmer temps, higher humidity, stuff like that. Also, some types of predators use soil to lay eggs or pupate into adults and so forth, so if you're doing hydroponics you might be unable to let the predators reproduce.
