This is my first grow im using 2 speaker grow boxes from sunlight solutions each holds 6 plants, with sensi 2 part nutrients from advanced nutrients, and i have 2 kinds of seeds white widow, and blueberry from dutch passion, i plan on keeping the blueberry in one box and the white widow in the other, ill put pics as i go but any advice from novice growers would be much appreciated esspecial anyone thats used a speaker grow box before

Unless these are huge concert speaker boxes, 6 plants is too many. I'd try one and a screen.

THats pretty cool man but a little on the expensive side..Also theres no way you can grow six plants to maturity in that thing..I'm no pro by any means but we can barely fit 2 plants in a 2'x3'x6' closet..
They get HUGE my friend!!

That's a pretty cool set up. I still think 6 is too many though. You have a lot of vertical space it looks like, and if you veg just one week the plants won't take up all that room. I'm thinking like less than 2 feet for a sativa and less than 3 for an indica. Of course you said train, and with the right training you can mostly make a plant go where you want. I would probably consider putting a Daylight or Sunlight fluoro strip down each side, since by the time the plant reaches the top, the lower growth won't be getting light. What about width opie? We pretty much have hte same amount of space and seem to be doing ok with the height thus far.. but the bushiness of these suckers is where we seem to be running out of room..Maybe we vegged to long or something but 2 plants has already started getting a little tight in a 2x3 foot area..anyway hope everything works out..

If i put a light strip on the side wouldnt that make the plants grow to the sides instead of vertical growth since plants grow towards the light?
Sunlight and Daylight refer to the color of the light. Daylight bulbs (6000-6800K) are actually suppose to mimic the color the daylight in general, and Sunlight bulbs (5000K) are the color of the sun, which is a little more orange than daylight. Both would be for vegging, and in general make the plants grow wider and bushier. For budding you want a more orange or reddish bulb like Warm (2700K) or Very Warm (2200K). These in general make plants grow taller and less bushy, but are the right color to stimulate bud growth. You can get them at Walmart or Home Depot, or most hardware stores.Quote:

If you consider this, you might want to look into the newer, smaller, and more efficient T-5 bulbs instead of the bulkier and more common T-12 bulbs. They are much more expensive up front, but I think they end up paying for themselves in the long run, if I remember right. Also you would probably need a vertical screen either on all sides that have lights, or a vertical cylindrical screen in the center that you could train the plants too. Either way you'll need some way to keep the plants from touching the lights or they will burn. Don't forget you may need additional ventilation if you add more lights.
Bushy plants can be caused by nutrients, light all around the sides, strain, pruning and other stuff. In general Indicas are more bushy and shorter than Sativas. If you prune at all, plants will be shorter and bushier. You can always make a vertical screen and try to train the stems to grow straight up instead of out. There are also nutrients that inhibit vertical growth and others that promote it.Quote:

Sorry for the hijack, but reading this thread has made me second guess the grow box I am thinking of buying. It is made by the same manufacturers who assured me that everything in these systems is completely flawless. So much for trying to get a straight answer out of a salesman. :wtf:

yeah thats what i like about these systems is there very low maintance, and the coolcab is a good setup, but the reason i didnt like it is its not much bigger than my speakers and theres no way your going to get close to 14 plants, i would shoot for 6 to 8 maximum, and the good thing about the Reservoir tub is its the same kind you can get at walmart, so i would recommend getting another lid and drilling your own holes so your plants can have more room.
Both systems look good. On the bigger one, I would use a screen and 3 or 4 plants, or no screen and 5 plants, roughly. One huge disadvantage of these systems IMO, is that you don't have a separate veg and bud section, which allows harvesting twice as often.

Please note that having used both, common chicken wire is a total pain in the ass and the holes are too small, while wire netting that has 2x2 or 2x3 holes is much better. It's much easier to work with during construction and growing, and it doesn't scratch you all up with hundreds of little bits of wire sticking out everywhere.

Yeah its a good system i just had to tweak alot of stuff on it and buy extras, like another fan, fogger, and i added a drip system, the only problem im having is the humidity, will it be ok as long as it stays above 40%?
Sure, plants prefer about 60 RH, but my grow is about 30, and I've seen it down to 25 before. I've heard of people doing fine in RH of over 90 too.
Everything looks good but I would not leave that fan on all the time, too much direct close contact wind. Other than that I can't wait to see how this works. Good Luck!

There 6 day old, and all but 1 germinated, On the three bigger plants some of the roots have stretched about 3 inches below the netpods, and each of the bigger plants has about 3 roots stretching down below the netpod, how long before the dripsystem isnt nessecery.
My plants havent grown very much in the past few days and they havent grown any more leaves, the root system has been growing like crazy though, is this normal?
When they're first starting sometimes it looks like they are kinda dormant. Usually though, they really take off at some point, especially if the roots are growing and there is at least a little alive foliage.
Growing from seed you will probably only get 4 females from 6 seeds so the space thing is less of an issue (you will cull the males in week 2 of flower). I think the proportions of that box are funky at best- tall and skinny is a tough way to grow plants, and the box might benefit greatly from the addition of tube side-lighting such as a couple 24" under-cabinet flouro fixtures.
For odor control, an 'odorsok' 4" model will fit right over the exhaust outlet. I don't know if the fan in that thing is burly enough to push air across a carbon filter matrix though.
Did I say that, or was that the other speaker thread? Anyway I agree with stinky and it's nice to be right sometimes. I was thinking with all the vertical space, I would try a scrog, believe it or not. I think that would use the extra vertical space efficiently. Veg on bottom 3rd, bud on top 2/3. Screen in each to keep em out of a big-ass CFL, and use up all the available light. 1 small plant each section. Venting? Odor? Hell I don't know. Now we're getting to the hard part.
