Whitlery Strieber has written on his message board, of one of the men who was 'downloaded' he calls it, at his cabin and who later held a low opinion of WS - "Whatever his opinion of me, he essentially destroyed himself by his flirtation with the grays. He should never have approached me at all, but he did, and the consequences, sadly, are there, and will not only persist in this life, but go with his soul."
Threatening people's souls is an old trick of the Inquisition, is it not? If they are downloaded, they're Nazis? He claims he barely knew the man who suffered the assault which would lead to a "greatly diminished life" and yet he damns his soul.
On his message board WS comments of a soldier who was 'downloaded' at his cabin, with semantics curiously similar to Dr Cameron's of CIA McGill mind control infamy. Dr Cameron would 'download' his patients minds in an attempt to create a blank slate onto which he would imprint new information.

I thought it might be worth starting a thread on Donald Ewen Cameron. Born in Scotland in 1901, he graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1924. He began his career as resident surgeon at Glasgow Infirmary, but in 1929 moved to Canada to work in the Brandon Mental Hospital....

Cameron discovered that "once a subject entered an amnesiac, somnambulistic state, they would become hypersensitive to suggestion". In other words they could be brainwashed. The CIA became aware of Cameron's research and in 1957 Cameron was recruited by Allen Dulles, Director of the CIA, to run Project MKULTRA. Documents released in 1977 show that MKULTRA was a "mind control" program. As it was illegal for the CIA to conduct operations on American soil, Cameron was forced to carry out his experiments at the Allan Memorial Institute in Canada. The CIA arranged funding via Cornell University in New York.

I won't go into details, but it was a very hard, mostly psychological rather than a psychic reading and got deep into my insecurities. Later talking to the another friend she received the same type of reading. (Whitley later admitted he wasn't any good at being a psychic.)
It was very strange and there was a projection both Whitley and the woman put on me that I was interested in one of the fellow cabin guys there and I had to stop thinking about him in that way. This broke me into tears because this man was married to a dear friend of mine and I never felt anything about him but the deepest of affections. Also, marriage to me is sacrosanct. If someone is "taken" I don't even allow myself the luxury of fantasizing about them. This accusation was beyond hurtful because it was so not who I was.
Michael Talbot bless his heart came to my rescue as Carol Dryer said he would and came for me as soon as the reading was over. He told me not to listen to her and as far as he was concerned she was a neurotic fraud. I pretty much stayed quiet that night and was relieved when she left. The man apologized to me privately and asked if he could call me when he was in California to get together in a month or so.
Now this is where it gets really weird...
A month after I got home, the man did call. He said there were reports of craft in this area of the desert and he wanted to check them out. Would I mind going along to keep him company and to see what I could see? I said yes. I liked the guy and he was very nice and seemed so genuine.
He picked me up and we drove for about 4 hours to the desert and he had a very specific map about the area. It was like a scene from close encounters as we drove off the road, over a fallen fence and through scrub in the darkness to the area. He parked the car and we got out to look up into the night. Why in the world did I do this? I was amazingly stupid to be out in the middle of nowhere with someone I didn't even really know.
Anyway, we get on the hood of the car and he starts to pump me with questions about my contacts and Whitley. I answered as honestly as I could and figured what the hell did it matter? He had some very strong opinions about Whitley and made no bones about it. I asked him why he and the psychic came to the cabin and he said it was to meet us. I asked why the psychic seemed so uncomfortable around me and he said it was because she was afraid he was going to replace her with me!!! This was so bizarre! Michael was right, she was neurotic!
I don't remember much else, but he suggested that we get into the car and sleep for a bit. The next thing I remember is waking up screaming and scaring us both to death.
I don't remember seeing any UFO's out on that trip and I never saw that man again, but it was so bizarre. I was relieved to get home in one piece.

The second night of the last visit to the cabin.
Three of us slept in Andrews room. As I said, I was practicing Native American Medicine ritual then and asked the other two women I was sharing with if they would mind if I smudged the room with a sage bundle. They were all for it.
For those who don't know, Sage was used to purify and as a form of protection. It has a wonderful smell when it is burned and to "smudge" a room, you light a cord tied bundle briefly, blow the fire out then take the smoking wand of sage and outline the doorways and windows in order to protect from negative influences.
Whether it was going to work with the Grays or not, I didn't know, but it certainly made us feel better to think it would.
When I was on the last window, Whitley came bursting through the door demanding to know who was smoking grass! We all laughed explaining to him what we were doing. He was relieved telling us that he didn't know how dangerous it might be to see the Visitors if on drugs and he was afraid for us if that were the case. We apologized profusely for the confusion and one of the women told him that we would see if this experiment with smudging would work come the morning.
That night I remembered waking up from the sound of a noise not dissimilar to the rustle of clothing. The room was pitch black. I remember raising my hand in front of my face, wiggling my fingers and I couldn't even see it. It was then I heard an angry voice hissing in my ear "Go back to sleep!" What came next aside from the sudden adrenaline that pulsed through me was the sound of another kind of hissing. It was like the sound of something spraying from an aerosol can. I felt a light mist land on my face and that's all I can remember of that.

It seems more like the Whitleys had "nutters" coming out of the woodwork, after Communion was published and the movie was broadcast, and it didn't abate.
Celebrity is hard to handle, at the best of times. Don't think WS ever wanted to be a "guru" to millions, (as his horror of "heaven's gate" cult pointed out.)
He was a guy with some weird experiences, that decided to put into a literary context. He did research on many levels to try and discover who, what and why he was involved.
Whether or not they were real to anyone else, they were real for him and as his popularity grew, so did his critics.
It's a fine line to dance, when there is such high name-recognition. Plus various family illnesses that may or may not have been triggered by all the hoopla, it's tough to handle.
As many actors, politicians, rich and famous or public servants will attest, life changes after the media blitz.

Dear Reader:
I would like to thank you for your patronage of the Communion Letter. Your subscription ends with this issue, and we are not taking new subscriptions or renewals. A list of available back issues is printed on the reverse of this letter for those who may be interested in collecting.
I had always intended to run the newsletter about two years, and that amount of time has now passed. During this period the Communion Letter has gained a large circulation and, I believe, published some remarkable articles.
But all good things must come to an end. I am not a UFO researcher and do not wish to endure the continued media attack that is associated with being involved in this field. In addition, the so-called "UFO-ologists" are probably the cruellest, nastiest and craziest people I have ever encountered. Their interpretation of the visitor experience is rubbish from beginning to end. The "abduction reports" that they generate are not real. They are artifacts of hypnosis and cultural conditioning.
What we are experiencing is a perceptual anomaly that is sufficiently ambiguous and intense that it demands explanation. It is something that human beings have been experiencing for a long time. It is the cause of religion, of mythology, of folklore. Presently it is the cause of the "alien abduction" belief.
What is *really* behind our experiences? We are. This is a human thing. However, I would also say that it indicates that we--and our world--are vastly different, and far more strange, than we have ever dreamed, or dared imagine.

In my memory of six author tours on the UFO subject, I do not recall seeing such expressions on any other faces. To my eye, they were not sane expressions. Frankly, they were frightening. I don't see why Air Force personnel would hate me. My book Majestic lays the blame for the cover-up at the feet of the intelligence community, not the Air Force. In general, my books do not attack the military.

For an adult child conditioned to abuse it is difficult if not impossible to effectively defend themselves against psychological attack they have been conditioned to respond to in a certain way. One sees learned helplessness in frustrated inarticulate response.

Without a substance the physical brain patterns that are the basis of addictive psychosis become more entrenched to everyday thinking - and so with the pathology of computers. China has treatment centers for computer addiction - all but ignored and exploited here - More circus than bread, presumably. So a psychological delay in the maturation of adult psyche is compounded by a physical foundation for the syndrome in the brain. I once told a woman about a religious experience I had and within days she claimed she just saw Jesus walking down the street. She was a big blonde blue eyed mother of three with a sane mind. I had a strange little dream last night. I suddenly found myself in this casino and as I looked around a middle-aged man came up to me and said that all the people from unknown country were there. Then he pointed to one of the center aisles where all the slot machines were and told me that he was going back there to sit beside susi t learn again as she was teaching everybody how to win. Next thing I hear are very loud ping-ping-pings coming from that direction. I'm making my way through the crowd and then I wake up.
