Red's First Grow
I started hanging around the forums about the same time that I started my first grow, and I gotta say that I'd probably be lost without all of the things I've learned from here. So I figure that I should show yall how far I've gotten
The Beginning:
I got a couple hundred mixed seeds from a friend, which fueled my desire to start growing.
So I planted about 80 Seeds in some moisture control Miracle Grow, and then I went and picked up 5 48" 2-tube 40W fluorescent fixtures, set it all up, and waited to see what'll happen. After a few days they started poppin up all over the place.
A Little bit later I picked up some Foxfarm Ocean forest, and a bunch of 26W CFL's. Then I replanted the starts in 2/3rds Ocean forest and 1/3rd perlite. I also killed ten weaker plants because I knew that I wouldn't have enough room in the closet.

I let them Veg for about a month and a half. They were growing surprisingly fast, but they were slightly stunted because I kept moving things around a lot I think.
-
Red's First Grow
Looks like a good start to a great grow.
One thing in the last pic can you get a close up of the leaves near the bottom something has happened and maybe the cause of your growth stunt.
-
Red's First Grow
I started flowering them on Nov. 28th in the same area that they were Vegging in. (About 400W of 6500k Fluoro, and 468W of I think 3200k CFL)
On the 8th I picked up some 1000W hps bulbs and ballasts. I then built a dedicated room. I got rid of all of the males, which turned out to be over half, about 55 of them. That sucked!
The pics are of the current setup, day 10 of flowering. There is only one light on for now.

Red's First Grow
Today is day 21 of flowering. The hairs are finally getting pretty big, everything is lookin good!
The temps have dropped from the mid 70's to high 50's a few times during the night because I didn't have my heater situation figured out yet. It's all good now, the nights are about 65. I hope that didn't stress them
First pic is day 20, the rest are day 21

Red's First Grow
lookn good red:thumbsup:
how many plants r u flowering u had alot 2 start with?
:smokin:
-
Red's First Grow
I only have 25 I think, I haven't counted since I picked a couple more males out
-
Red's First Grow
Looks good dude. Are you flowering them in those little dixie cups? If so, are you having any problems with them getting root-bound?
-
Red's First Grow
Only 8 of them are in dixie cups, and they are pretty small, I haven't had any problems yet. The rest are in 5" X 5" square pots. I wish they were in bigger pots. Next time around (I'm gonna clip the clones from the mother plants tomorrow) I will make a box on the floor and fill it with dirt and plant the new clones 6" apart so that the roots wont have many restrictions.
Oh yeah, and I only had 45 males, not 55. I forgot that I killed ten in the beginning...

Red's First Grow
I just checked em out before they go to bed and I noticed that the two plants right in front of the door are looking pretty sad... Any ideas on what may be wrong? One of the things may be stress, could it have something to do with them being right next to the door? (the temp in the room outside of the grow area is about 40 Degrees F, and its opened a couple times a day, but I keep it closed as much as possible)

Red's First Grow
im no pro but i think ur over watering.
:smokin:
-
Red's First Grow
could be. I water them (amount depends on size of plant) every 2 days (water w/ FF Big Bloom), strange that only 2 are doin that
-
Red's First Grow
Wow those two plants aren't looking good, the leaves on the plant on the right are curling up real bad...
Anyone know what I should do?
-
Red's First Grow
To me it looks like heat stress, and no water.
Could be rootbound to, are those the ones in the dixie cups?
-
Red's First Grow
Red,
looked it up on the plant abuse chart in the FAQ section and looks like your roots got to cold.
can't believe you got them that big in small pots nice job.
-
Red's First Grow
They are in the square pots. And I always keep the soil damp, so I don't think it would be no water.
That would make sense that the roots got too cold, because they are only sitting about 3 inches off of a cement floor. I'll put some heat pads under them and see what'll happen.

Just thought i would say hello, i myself am from portland as well!
Peace and Green for life
match a bowl?
-
Red's First Grow
Haha hell yeah dude, It's good to see someone from around here
Oh, and my heat pads are old and broken, and I didn't wanna burn my house down, so I just flushed the two plants instead, and they are actually looking better!
-
Red's First Grow
Yeh that should help and try and anything to get them out or stop the draft from the door.
still looking great keep it up.

Red's First Grow
hey red you got a AIM name?
-
Red's First Grow
Red,
I'm by no means an expert, but i would bet the roots on those two stressed plants are probably just sensitive to the nutes you use. Some girls are gluttons for feedings, and some will try to vacate the pots if you add 1/4 of the suggested strength. It could also be a ph problem.
Do you use the exact same mix for all your girls?
Very nice grow by the way, very ballsy for a 1st crop. I wish you the best. have you considered adding molasses to your feeding routine if you are already not using some? That should help feed your soil and plant at the same time.
i wish you happy yields!
-
Red's First Grow
Yeah I've been using the same mix of FF Big Bloom, and I just got FF Tiger Bloom. From now on I'm going to water the plants differently based on size and how far along they are in flowering.
I was thinkin of adding molasses over halfway through flowering, and since some of them are flowering much faster than the others, I will start feeding them a molasses mix soon.
Some new pics of day 27.
I'm surprised that the mutant plant is flowering... (pic 1)

Red's First Grow
How are the Problem plants looking?
Everyting else is looking great, that mutant is skraggly looking but a bud is a bud, I have one mutant in my grow and it has some of the prettiest looking buds of the crop but small compared to the rest.

Red's First Grow
The plants are doing pretty good, it's getting closer to harvest time :)
Sadly, I have no magnifying glass or jeweler's loupe so I'm not 100% sure when to harvest. I want to go by the color of the trichs but the only thing I have is a digital camera. Jorge Cervantes said in a recent High Times to harvest when 50% of the hairs change color, would this method work?
The first picture is the mutant, the rest are pics of the most mature plants. The last pic is a few days old, but it shows off some of the purple buds that are growin.

Red's First Grow
I harvested another hermie a day or two ago. I wish that I didn't but oh well. When I was trimming I noticed that the seed pods are all a reddish pink color, while the leaves are purple. It's a really unique looking plant, I've never seen bits of pink on bud.
Its kinda hard to see the pods with these photo's sadly;
