My 1st/2nd/3rd Grow Log

Hey all -

I have been quite innept at starting my own grow log, piggy-backing on others logs so I could post my pics, now that I can officially sart my own thread/with pics, I thought I would!!
Lets start from the beginning...
I was given 2 plants that were VERY malnourished and lacking in every department, so I took them on as a project (keep in mind, I hadnt attempted a grow in 13 years). So I read and read and read. And this is what has taken place over the last 3.5 months +/-......

I didnt take any pics of the "plants" I was given, wayyyy to ugly, in 20/20 I should have, to compare the rehabilitation and maturation process. I first started off with 6 4ft tubes of floros, and kept them there for WAY too long!! Then I took 4 cuttings from one of them, put them under the floros and put the orig. 2 under a 250w MH.

Now, from the one plant I sent into flower and the four I cloned this is what we have so far......one week later!!

What kind of soil, what nutes are you using, Do you know what strain they are?

The original plant is being given straight water and with be chopped down next week sometime, the fan leaves are turning yellow and it is falling over daily....shes a heffer. Of the four clones I had previously, I have flowered 3 of them and kept one as a MOM.....

looks good. when you gonna harvest them? the plant with yellowing looks about ready to hang. good job bringing them back and flowering them.

These 3 clones are under a 250w MH and to be honest with you, I would MUCH rather VEG under Floros, this feeling may be too early!!

So 2 weeks ago I bought a used 400w HPS off of ebay and the guy promised it would work - it didnt, so I had a friend rewire it with a new capacitor and ignitor - nuthin'. Lets try a new bulb....it worked! From between the time of rewiring and getting a new bulb I got a little/lot drunk and bought a new 400W HPS.

Now I have 2 x 400w HPS, what does one do? they run out to home depot and buy some lumber!!
Here are some pics of my new cabinet in the basement where the temps are nice and cool!! You will see on the left side is a box. It contains 3 filters from which a big box fan will be bringing in cool air (it is in the basement), and an exaust fan in the back right corner.

So this is where my journey has led me so far..... any questions or concerns, feel free to ask!!

They look like they need water. what's with droopy leaves?

Looks good just a few things.
Paint the ceiling and if you can paint the floor flat white, your filter system are they charchol filters if not they won't remove the smell very well. Also be aware of your humidity in the basement you may need a dehumidifer.

with the filters if they r hepie (not sure on spelling) they should get rid of the smell hepie filters r used in air cons and vacume cleaners in hospitals well in oz any way.
and the main plant looks good, wat flouros did u use ?

I am going to cover the floor and ceiling with some mylar I have laying around. A dehumidifier will be taken out of the garage storage and put to use in the basement. Filters: I figured if using such a big fan I could put a few filters BEFORE it entered the cab. not only would it slow down the fan, but in turn filter the air the plants are getting....also, those filters are about 3 feet away from my homes heating unit, would it be possible to suck in some of the CO2? Prob not, just a thought, will continue with my milk containers filled with water, sugar, and yeast!! Just looking thru old folders of pics and thought I w0ould upload a random!!

hey butch how much yeast and sugar do u use in ur co2 mix?

1 40lb bag Timberland Potting Soil
3 bags Perlite
4 lt. Vermiculite
6 lt. Mushroom Compost

Seems to be very grainy and does not hold water as well as my old MG/perlite mix - oh well

btw, it was Timberline soil, not Timerland!!

So, I have 85% completed the cabinet in the basement. Just need to build the DIY Carbon Filter. Temperatures are holding steady at 76f. Humidity hasnt moved - constant 16% (think its a faulty meter!) The cooler temps of the basement has made it SIMPLE to run the 2 400w hps in the cab... time will tell though
This is the first time I have used flat white paint, it doesnt seem to be as reflective as mylar:( Just my get some safety-blankets from big-box mart. Any personal thoughts on the flat white/mylar situation?

Update on Droopy clones.... Gave them a good watering and put the Humidifier in their room and raised the 250w MH - they seem happier, but the branches that are on top of the fan leaves are weird/retarded - 3 leaves and rounded, not sharp? any guesses

I honestly have no idea what I am growing, all I can say is it STINKS, and a select few have said it is the best this town has seen in a long time.... I pat my back!
Was thinking of ordering AK99 and NL x AK47 so I have known type. Any suggestions on what would be good to fill my cabinet?

Now to use the rest of my lumber and build a veg. cab so I can get out of a different closet upstairs!
4.5'L x 2'D x 3.5'Tall - this would hold 3x2 4ft floro tubes and I wouldnt have to worry about heat, not a fan of MH for veg, not yet at least

I just built a DIY carbon filter/scrubber and got everything but the activated carbon (and pantyhose) from HD. The carbon I got from Petco and pantyhose from the 99cent store.

Let me know what parts you are missing and I can help you track 'em down. I recommend getting a roll of the ALUMINUM duct tape since when I followed Bodom's instructions for the filter it came in handy. Couldn't have finished the project without the Aluminum tape.

a problem. After assuming the basement temps would be perfect to cool 2 400w hps (I was correct) 12 hours with no heat and it dropped down to 58f... How much of a strain is this going to cause? I know the roots are getting cold, any other problems arising? Went to HD and found a 6-outlet (grounded) timer with 3 different on/off programs for 20 bucks! Now to install that and a little space heater and I think my probs are covered>

Also went to big-box mart and got some supplies to make a clone bubbler/chamber. I used to keep phish as pets some a lot of the supplies were in house! i also found that petco sells the LITTLE net pots to hold aquarium vegetation, these hold jiffy plugs/rapid rooters Perfectly.... Any problem with putting these rooters in a light bubbling chamber (airstones)? Time to construct......

Change in plan...... I have read that some people will bury their 3" net pots w/ hydroton in soil. Has anyone else heard of this and what are some ideas on the matter?

Your cabinet is very similar to mine. My walls are flat white in fact everything is white so putting mylar will help but not significantly, as you saw from my grow white works fine, Also I got my plants to grow so many collas by doing extensive LST. They were never more than 8" tall for 5 weeks.
Also I use MG moisture control I saw you used that in the past and had good luck with it, now you are having difficulty with the new soil mix, so go back to what you know works if you can.

Then for starting cloans I recomed using rockwool cubes, they hold water a lot better and are much neater. Then for a carbon filter I use 2 - 4'' can filters

Vegging Clones....

I think something may have stressed these out big time, I am getting retarded leaves, wimpy stems, weak branches....so on

On another note, I am getting ready to cut my fat girl down today or tomorrow, I have read that you should keep a plant in complete darkness for a few days before chopping. Any comments on this?

I read that it induces the plant to think it is dying and produces as much resin as it can to protect itself, I see a lot of the vetran growers do it.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I am not correct on what happens in darkness for 3 days. ,

So I now have 5 sites of fan leaves that have 1 Leaf-not 5,7,or9.....WTF I think these are going into the trash.
To keep with the stress theme, I lifted the light 6 inches maybe its too much light?......

I am waiting on some new seeds, so I am worried about putting these in the flower cab and not having anything for a bit. now that i think about it, if these are stressed and f'ed up i wouldnt want to clone em in the first place..... someone with some knowledge or good advice please respond!!!! btw, thanks for you replies JerryG, you seem to be the only one following my log!!:D

Throwing then into 24 - 36 hours of darkness just prior to harvest is supposed to increase resin production per Jorge Cervantes book. I asked Stinky about it on chat and I recalkl her opinion is that the is really no difference. Six on one hand, half dozen on another.

Regarding the single blade leaves, that is something I have not experienced myself. Probably stress or poor environmental conditions is my guess. Do you have adequate ventilation and a fan circulating air in the grow space?

Great circulation and an oscilating fan on them always, they get some fresh air thru a little door in the back of the closet, temps are 68-82. I just tried JerryG's recipe for his veg feeding, personally, I have never used molasses on veg plants nor hydrogen peroxide, but at this point, Ill try almost anything!!

Now next prob, in my flower cab, 1 of 3 plants is showing yellowing leaves. They are all the same age and get the same ferts at the same times. Only difference is when I trasplanted these a month or so ago, I tried an experiment by putting holes all over the bucket to try and increase air to the roots.... could this be a prob? I dont think so. Only thing I can think of is when the lights are off the temp does dip down pretty low 58-60, so I put an oscilating heater in the cab with timer to try and curb this....

Overly happy with the results. Surprised to see I had buds actually growing out of the soil, straight from the stem, in other wors, more buds than I had EXPECTED!!! Oh Yeah!!

Looks like a good harvest CONGRATS!!! Yellowing leaves at that point in growth is normal the plant is comming to the end of its life cycle from what I have read.

I am having some of the same problems with my cloans but not to the point of single leaves just weird looking, this is a guess but when I took my cloans while under 12/12 for a week and a half to sex the plants, weeded out the males and took cuttings from the females and put them under 24/0 light, then when new growth started on the cloans the leaves on some of mine didn't look normal (kind of rounded and wrinkly) but as time went on the newer leaves look normal. It was kind of like they started from seed first 3 finger leaves then 5 then 7 fingers.

I wouldn't toss them yet!!! Hopfully someone will come around and tell us that everthing is ok. I am assuming it is be because mine look better every day.

I take that back on the weird cloan checked mine closely last night and it is producing the same symptoms single finger leaves. I put a post with pics in the plant problem folder, so I will find out what is wrong, and how this happens. Get back to you on this LOL.

I got an answer from Stinky and Image Reaper, the symptoms we are having is from light stress. Stinky said it is not uncommon for this to happen, where we went wrong is when rooting we had them under to much light I had mine under a 175w MH for a week before I put them under a 2x40w t-12 light for another week then back under 175w when I transplanted then recently I put them under a 400w MH.
Looking back on it if I were a plant that would F me up too.
I did get conflicting answers on what to do. Stinky said mine looks very healthy and continue growing, she will come around. Then Image said he had it happen and eventually tossed it. So I am going to take Stinky's advice and see what happens if no improvement in 2 weeks then I will take Image's advice and out she goes.

JerryG, I put something up in the plant probs and got the same feedback as you. Not as concerened as I was earlier, I just ordera few dozen seeds and a buddy of mine just gave me a dozen, so time to practice with the seeds:( I am not a fan of MH in veg, seems to be too much light!! So I built a new veg cab with left over lumber from my flower cab, gonna use 3 4ft flouros in it - easy to control temp and get the light right on them. here are a couple pics of the yet to be finished veg cab. I learned from my previous build, do it in sections and wrap each section in mylar....soooo much easier:D

That is where the most knowledge lies: TRIAL and ERROR, TRIAL and ERROR, TRIAL and ERROR... aha! I learned something.

At least that is how it is for me. Good luck and keep on keeping on...

Its been a few days since I have posted pics of my 3 vegging, watering was my prob.... Havent watered since sunday (now friday) - gave a nice dose of 20-30-20, hydrogen peroxide(jerryG swears by it) and guano. Did not include molasses this time, runoff from previous watering was Brown/caramel color, obviously not intaking it. Turned the lights from 18/6 to 16/8 with this watering, next watering will go to 14/10 and then 12/12 on MH for a couple weeks, then to 12/12 in the cabinet. Trying to time it so my new seeds will be ready to play with!!
