A friend last night asked me "you hear about whats happening to amsterdam?" and i thought maybe something about cannabis cup or somethin... but he told me it was becoming ILLEGALIZED after spring break of 08. anybody know whats up with that?? im planning my trip asap if this is the case..
I wouldnt just automatically believe this. That is one of their main tourist attractions :thumbsup: (In most cases not THE main, just one)
pot has always been illegal in Holland, it just isn't enforced, nobody cared ... things change ... :jointsmile:

I refuse to believe it. Cannabis is illegal in the Netherlands due to their obligations to the international treaties, they can't legalize it if they wanted to. So they decriminalized possesion of up to 5 grams. They may be reducing the number of coffeeshops but they''re not irradicating them all together. They're there to stay, imo.

the thing they was thinking of doin was if you are not a citizen of amsterdam and you are caught smoking cannabis they WILL inforce the law apon you, but like drag commented on i just cant see them stopping theyre most renowned tourism pulls.

A smoking ban DOES come in to place next year - just like the one here in the UK.

Same as the current public buildings smoking ban in the 'Dam at the moment.
Coffeeshops will have to provide a seperate smoking area either out the back or on the roof.

Don't worry, it's easy enough to get pot here in states...and you dont have to pay for a plane ticket or hoes when your there.

I'm looking forward to not having to put up with people waving cigarettes in my face at work. As for the coffeeshops, so long as I can still buy my hash I don't care if I can't smoke it anywhere public.

at tokyo airport they had these wikid smoking areas, they where in the main building but they where squared off and seperated by massive walls of air blowing through from the floor to the ceiling, with a massive extraction fan in the roof and in alligh with the floor vents. It made like a self contained room. no smoke could get out and because of all the air you didnt smell at all. it was wikid.
they should just build those and im for them in the uk aswell. theres no physical way the smoke can get out and there damn cool to walk into.

No its not illegalized and it was never legal to begin with. In coffee shops you have to ask to see a menu and ask to see products now. Also the police cannot smoke when they get off work anymore. Its not illegal or becoming illegal just some laws are being passed to keep it decriminalized. I wouldn't call it laws just guidelines.

I used to think this too untill i found out what goes on in the love hotels, only a 1/3 of the couples go their to have sex?? well cool, i just thought i'd throw that out there and get all of your opinions and views too.
I was in Amsterdam Dec. '07 prior to Christmas. We went to MANY coffee shops and there was no talk of MJ becoming illegal at that time. You can't have it on the streets in Amsterdam, only in the coffe shops is what I experienced. What a vacation!! Schrooms were for sale then too. I rather stick with MJ.
Right, this was on the news a few months ago.
A young female tourist was killed after stepping in front of an electric tram after having consumed a potent fungi in historic downtown amsterdam.
