Flowering White Widow

Hi. First time grower here. I've been pretty successful thus far with my first grow. I'm about two months into a hydroponic grow of WW. My plants are about 17 inches now and growing about an inch a day with lovely 5-7 fingered leaves, and appear healthy. I was hoping somebody with WW or similar strain growing experience could give me some advice on when to flower them. I've read that if an indoor mj plant is at least a foot tall and with 5 fingered leaves, they're good to go. I want to get the most out of my plants however (have been experimenting with pruning), and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about how big I should let my widows veg before I begin to preflower them. I have a WW that just started showing preflowers yesterday, wait until your girls show you that they are ready if you want that max yield, I may be wrong however, I am still on my first grow

You don't want to let them get too big. WW grows really tall. Mine have easily tripled in size - both height and width - since I went to 12/12. I'm actually really wishing I had gone to 12/12 like 2 weeks sooner.

I have been leaving the light on 24 hours, but I just started going to 18/6 (I heard that's better for them). I think I'll give them a couple more weeks on 18/6 until I transition to 12/12 and change their nutes. Thanks, Help_Needed. I have heard they double or triple in size once they start flowering, and I also read that WWs can grow up to 15 feet! I was thinking about letting them get 3 ft tall before I start flowering. What do you guys think?

preflowers are great indicators of maturity, but may not always show. (they never appeared on my 2 months vegging, 3-foot ak47, but showed 3 weeks vegged new seeds)

Don't let them get that tall unless you really have enough room for a 9 foot plant. Mine were about 18"-20" when I flowered them. They're 4' tall right now, and the colas haven't grown yet.

I been on 18/6 since day1, I use Earth Juice Brand Grow and Bloom. Never knew the could get that tall...dayum, I wish it was spring already(OUTDOOR). But that will come soon enough. Let's keep it connected...here is a pic of my WW as of today(Day #34)...What day you on? Show some pix

White Widow is, by far, my favorite strain to grow and consume. There's good reason for this: it's an award winning strain, can contain up to 25% THC when all is said and done, and can produce amazing yields...comparable to Big Bud/Skunk varieties.

My Widows always grew pretty tall...even when using LST. If you decide to veg yours until it's 3' tall, be prepared to harvest a tree-sized behemoth in the end. The main cola will most likely be heavy enough to warrant bamboo stakes, but you'll also get some decent side-growth if they're given an adequate amount of light. Keep this in mind if you have limited space to work with. I have a 6x6 flowering room, and five fully-flowering females in five-gallon buckets made this space cramped in no time at all.

My Widows also could be pretty sensitive to overbearing nutrient regimens, at least during the flowering phase. They seemed to eat up about all the Nitrogen I could throw at them during veg, and suffered no ill effects...but didn't seem to tolerate flowering nutes quite as well. This is, of course, when many growers tend to get a little too generous with their feeding regimen. I grow in organic soil, and so generally have to be extra careful when deciding how much is enough in terms of feeding.

Take care of them, and be attentive to what they're telling you during flowering. If you happen to experience any symptoms of deficiency, be careful that you diagnose the problem carefully...or you might just end up contributing to the problem.

I was never too thrilled with the potency of the BB strains I grew, but...in the same respects, when you harvest a bud that's twice the diameter of your head, that leaves little room for any complaints! :jointsmile:

So you have grown BB b4? I have many Q's then. What kinda light did you grow/bloom with? Got any pix of the crop, so I know what to expect?

Expect a 2 - 3X stretch. If your plants are still stretching then i would say you have a heat problem or you light are too far away... WW shouldn't stretch more that 3X. Try adding blue to the spectrum for the first 4 weeks of flowering.

Whats w/the taste? I have never smoked BB, Let alone grown it...lol

I grew my BB/NL organically in soil, in a five gallon bucket...and this was also about 3-4 years ago. Only had one female, but she definitely lived up to her name. I was exaggerating a little bit about the diameter of the main cola, although I've seen some pretty unbelievable pictures of monsterous buds grown outdoors. My main bud was roughly the diameter of my foot, and needed to be staked up.

I have a few Polaroids of some of my older grows, there might be some pictures of it lying around. If there are, I'll scan them onto my computer for you to look at. But I guarantee the quality will be shitty.

At the time I was using a 600w HPS system, and didn't have a conversion MH bulb yet...so mine was probably a little taller & lankier than it needed to be. If you have the means, I'm sure a MH for veg would keep it nice and squat in stature before you flowered it. Mine seemed to love the HPS in flower, though. Bushes of pistils quickly surrounded the main stem, and later got covered in a dense resin. It had a pretty 'hashy' taste to it when I smoked it, and was a full-blown narcotic high. Put me to sleep a couple of times.

I can't remember exactly how much I yielded off the one plant, I know it wasn't at its potential because of the stretching. I'd guesstimate that it was around 90-100g, dried, though...which was acceptable to me. Can't really think of anything in particular about the grow that stumped me, it was a pretty easy plant to work with.

Sorry, but I've been forbidden from posting pics. I really wanted to share though :-( Your Widows look good for their age. Mine were actually stunted a bit cuz I left them in the humidity dome for too long. This is a very resilient strain though as they are healthy beautiful plants now-I'd def recommend WW to novice growers, but beware their height-keep them small if you have limited space. BTW I hope that's not your permanent setup, cuz those post you have them in are WAY too fucking small. You need to transplant them into 3 or even 5 gallon buckets. Good luck, and please keep posting pics. I'm curious as to what to look for in the pre-flowering stages. Much love.

yeah, they are all in 2gals right now, and I might not upgrade, maybe just let em veg a little longer and then bloom em....My new light should be here soon too, 400w HPS/MH Conversion w/ballast and hood...got a good deal

So you want small little plants who's roots can't breath? Remeber 1 gallon+ for every month of growing. Sooo.... minimum pot size should be 3 gallons for SOG and 5 gallon for bigger plants.
Small root system = small yeild.... why do you think hydro is so good?

Seriously, friend. I bought several 5 gallon buckets from Wal-Mart. They're like 6 bucks a pop. Think of it this way: money being what it is, think of how much more your crop will be worth when you have a larger yield as a result of a better setup. Those 5-gal buckets will soon pay for themselves many times over.
