Why is Bud so expensive in the U.S.?

I was Just wondering why weed is so damn pricey in the states?I see ppl on these forums saying they pay $500-$600 for an o.z. of quality buds such as northern lights,NYC Diesel,Purple Kush etc.,That is outrageous,how do these dealers sleep at night?and why do the ppl who buy it even smoke?icouldn't afford to toke if it cost that much.I pay $80 for 1g of budder (99.7% THC)God knows what they would pay for it in the states!I Buy Strains like Jack Herer,Sensi Star,Sugar Bear,Purple Kush,NYC Diesel,Chernobyll and Bubbleskunk for $200-$240 per Ounce.and my dealer Always has several of these strains on hand.So I even get a choice of which strain i want!:jointsmile:

The dealers sleep at night cause' they're getting $500 dollars, wher I am in good ol' blighty we pay about £120 for an oz, been getting Q's of AK-47 for £35 at the moment as well :thumbsup:

Maybe the laws are harsher against dealing and growing in the US causing there to be less people growing and dealing = higher prices

The reason it costs so much is the illegality and the basic laws of supply and demand. When people get busted and there are such harsh penalties for growing/distributing, they can set whatever price they want. Plus, look at it culturally: Americans are dumbasses that will pay the excess money for a name. 'Nuff said.

they charge what they do, because they 'CAN' ... if someone is desperate enough to pay ridiculous prices, the dealers are gonna charge it, naturally ... it's true about everything, my property prices sky-rocketed because a movie star moved to town, how stupid is that ? ... gasoline prices = supply and demand ... stop buying it, price goes Down .. start buying every drop ya can, price goes Up ... it's called 'economics' :jointsmile:

Ah economics, the bane of my collegiate career. I'm good with math, like calculus and physics, but I'll be damned if I ever really get a good grasp of economics. Oh, and accounting was another downfall too. But anywho, 500-600 for an ounce is indeed a ripoff. I'm in a college town that's vacant because of winter break and I can still get an O for 350, maaaaybe 375 if the guy's a douche. But damn, if that's the norm in Canada, I'd consider moving if it wasn't so damn cold there. Instead I'm going to move to the Southwest and prepare for the end of civilization in 2012.

It all comes down to two variables: inflation and quality of the product. As minimum wage is increased in the US, the cost of living goes up as does the price for goods (gas is going up, milk is going up, and so are utilities). It's a fact of life. Likewise, if you want quality pot, most people are going to make you pay for it. Also, importers of bud are able to charge more because the price of the US dollar in comparision to other countries' monies has declined in recent years as our great (sarcasim) leaders keep sinking us further and further into debt with other nations. :mad:

300-400 for kind bud

400-600 for kush, haze, Soma, and NYC sour

... Baiscally, I was reaffirming the two previous posts.

I guess I know different people, the highest I have heard is $350 in my neck of the woods (Nor Cal), but we can get anything. When I get some I can get trainwreck, super silver haze, ATF, sour desiel, etc.. for only $250-280. I guess I have good friends.....:pimp:

I've never heard of ozs of good bud costing $500-600. I can usually find ozs of purps, northern lights, etc for about 200-225.

Ounces of good regos I can get for 70-90. So not all prices are so high in the states.

its all about supply and demand. in Canada, specifically ontario, a city oz can cost about 150-200 from a friend, whereas cottage country its about 100-150 b/c EVERYONE grows up thier for personal use

StonedJew, whereabouts do you get your Os? Where I am in the Mitten, they run about $100-$120 for an oz of regs. I've also heard of about $350 for an O of incredible bud too.

I usually pick up quarter of white widdow off my dealer for 50$

Damn. Down here in texas the prices are horrrrrible. 500-600 oz of the good stuff. And even then its hard to find!

Ounce and a half of some decent - 150

Half ounce of Dank (if i split the full oz with a friend) -165

Ounce of Dank 300-375

I think I could have got a quarter of G17 for about 110, but I preffered the ounce and a half. :jointsmile:

im on a college campus and still pay out the arse...i just started and have only bought a couple times, i usually make friends and mooch, not honorable but pot smokers like company. I'll make sure to smoke out all the people that have done me in when i get my connections down.

Well you say they pay alot, but i think you pay way to much if you live in ontario, i never pay more than 170 for a zip, and the weed is amazing. so its all about who you know, and its not hard to figure out why the prices are higher, much tougher penalties in the states. think about if you were a grower down there risking many years in jail, wouldnt you want to make alot of money to risk everything being taken away for you.

In central Cali I could find 1/8ths for 40, 1/2 ounce for 120, but in So Cal it is like 60 per 1/8th, 20 per gram. It blows.

keep in mind how pricey seeds are.Sensi's hashplant are $400 for 10 seeds. and I know someone who makes bbutane honey oil exclusively from sensi's hashplant strain.

I'm 99% positve you probably are not getting name brand marijuana.If they do have names it's probably from the grower...not the seedbank.(I'm always informed of the strain and seedbank by my club)

in the suburbs of new york the prices can get pretty high, but if i ever take the time to drive down to the bronx i can pick up an ounce of good regs for $100. Where I live people don't usually sell by weight, they sell dubs and dimes (20 sack and of course 10 sack) and the fatness of these bags varies from dealer to dealer. I usually dont buy the good shit by weight because i dont have the money, but the dankest possible dankity dank weed in my area costs $500 an ounce (craziest haze I've ever smoked). If I go to BX i can get an ounce of northern lights for like $350.

yeah in the Houston area prices are so damn high... 60-75 for 1/8th ive seen, i don't even bother buying ounces anymore thats wayyy too much. But i guess its all about who you know

In my part of TN there is only 2 kinds: seedy schwag brick weed, and one small step up from schwag which is about same quality but not smashed flat.

$20 for an 1/8 of schwag, $30 for the "better" stuff... hahah. And I dunno why but all the locals here refer to an eighth as a nickel. LOL just shows how dumb these backwards rednecks are here. I don't mind people from other countries looking down on most of us, I hate being surrounded by morons. But why should I be the one to move? It'd be better figure a way to kick out all the idiots instead!

Once I get my shit together again and start growing, I can be like the saviour to these hicks (I already look like Jesus). And if I sell it, I wouldn't ask for more than $250 an ounce of bud that most people here couldn't even dream about. It just scares me to think that a lot of them might not wanna give up their shitschwag for the ripoff prices... we'll see.....
