K I have a really stupid question.
Just got a glass pipe. Never used a glass pipe before. The hole in the bottom's big so I'm worried about sucking in a lot of ash. I bought screens but I've heard bad things about them and about the m tasting like metal lol. Plus the screens don't seem to fit the pipe that well.
Anyone have any thoughts? Should I not grind it down to fine or should I definitely use the screen or what?
You could put a bigger bud on the bottom, then put the ground up weed on top of that. That worked for a friend's pipe, but you couldn't hit it hard or it might go through.
Another thing you could do is put a pebble in the bowl that covers most of the hole.
Smoke with larger buds or leaf on the bottom til that thing resins up enough...
Does the pipe have a carb hole on the side? Make use of it, maybe leave it partially uncovered, and hit slow and even... that's how I do one hitters, which I know have an annoyingly big hole, and used to get ash in my mouth until I learned to be slow and even
yea there's a hole in the side of the pipe.

well to answer your first question your best bet is to, like everyone else said, put bigger bud on the bottom and the smaller shake on to
second off, the hole on the side is called a "choke" or a "carb" and it clears the pipe of all the built up smoke, whenever you let go of the choke you may want to suck in a little harder, and after you clear it, tap it irregularly to keep the bud burning

The hole works like a switch, when it's covered your draw pulls from the bowl, when it's uncovered the draw pulls from the hole. You have to cover it to hit it, but you remove your finger at the end of the hit while inhaling to clear the pipe's chamber and stem of smoke. just like lifting the slider on a glass bong. Don't inhale too hard, even with the hole uncovered, as you still could pull in ash.
You can bend metal screens to suit your needs. Good ones don't really taste bad. Or you could get a glass screen (jacks, stars, daisies) like THESE (local headshops usually carry them too).
dont be a pus, just smoke it, i got a bowl, i get ash in the mouth, its just part of being a bowl user, i dont always get ash in the mouth, but i do eventually, i pack a tight bowl, so usually it takes a few minutes for me to get ash in the bottom to inhale, and also it gets sticky enough towards the end from the resins coating the unburnt material that it just doesn't ash that much, be a man, ash puts hair on your chest!
