Hookah

Has anyone smoked a hookah before? I went to try it for the first time with some friends a few weeks ago. It was going fine for a while, but then I started feeling dizzy, and then a few minutes later I felt more sick than I had in a while, it was terrible. I ended up puking hard 4 times on the way back to my friend's house.

I've never heard of anyone getting sick off a hookah. Has anyone else had a similar reaction? I can only guess that it was due to lack of fresh air or it being my first time I ever smoked tobacco. Bleh, it almost makes me sick just thinking about it. Guess it's just not for me.

When it comes to tobacco:

Keep your health and don't smoke tobacco.

I've never had hookah, but one time I smoked a black & mild after me and my friend had a j and a few bowls, and I got pretty sick from that (barfing and stuff)

I smoked hookah quite a bit last summer. I didn't get sick, the key is to not do it for a long amount of time imo.

lol i have a hookah my friend markee moo got it for me and he also got me a whole boxload of diffrent flavoured mollases, seriously i think he got me one of every flav' but yeah its just another pece in my huge fucking collection:rastasmoke::D:rastasmoke::D

That's a typical reaction from someone who isn't really used to tobacco. I know a guy who puked after trying his first pinch of chewing tobacco. Intense amounts of tobacco shock your system.

I wouldnt EVER smoke tobbacco from a hookah. Just not for me. Ive smoked weed from a hookah, it was neat. It was a fun social type of thing, but not something id use often. Id still pass a blunt around or a bowl around anyday over a hookah, but sometimes its a nice change.

Ive puked off it before. I've smoked it quite a lot but i did throw up once in my early days. It was on strawberry shisha, it was a very sickly flavour tbf and it was only my 4th - 5th time smoking it. it was at a shisha bar too, i went outside and threw up in the bin outside in front of the windows - i felt a bit guilty lol. but the owner bought me in and said it's happened before, its something to do with the smoke thinnin or thickenin ur blood or something. Anyways, the owner gave me a glass of water and put a few teaspoons of sugar in and told me to drink it and it would sort me out and it did.

My girlfriend bought me a Hookah, Ive only smoked shisha through it a few times but since I smoke tobacco anyway I dont get sick. They are great for smoking weed through, stick to that.

ive never had shisha (or a "real" hookah), but what happens if yousmoke weed in it w/ shisha? like fruity bud?, or more like flavored papes?

their could be a few reasons i've found that could be why u got sick
-what you ate before, i ate some mexican before once and i didnt feel so hot
-drinking something can help
-if the hookah wasnt prepared right, ie unclean hoses, not moving the coal properly
these are some ways to prevent feeling sick.

I used to get sick when I smoked a cigar for too long, or when I smoked pipe tobacco too much. It's normal. Try smoking less next time, and eventually that sick feeling will just go away even if you smoke a lot.

If you've never smoked a hookah before: IT'S AWESOME! Tastes great, relaxes you, and fun to blow some rings. But don't smoke a shit ton or real fast because you will boot from all the nicotine. It is harmful for you though, so if you don't want the risk of cancer, don't smoke, or do it in moderation. Personally, I could chief on one all day instead of cigs, and I'd probably be dead twice as fast.

I like hookah it relaxes me. I love chilling at a hookah bar with a group of friends on the big squishy couches.

A study once showed that tobacco through a hookah, during a half hour session, delivered the nicotine equivalent of 3 cigarettes, and the tar equivalent of 30 cigarettes. Hookahs are not designed for inhaling as far as safety goes, you just taste the smoke like with a cigar or pipe.

The smouldering charcoal has a more potent carcinogen than other tobacco forms. I'd use the hookah without charcoal for weed only, like a hosed bong.

Yeh ive had the happened to me before, i got a nice little buzz off the hookah but i felt sick and threw up later on. I hate hookah....and tobacco.......ill stick with the ganj

I love my hookah, we use it all the time here, you'll only get sick with certain flavors that really are sickining, but with regular Double Apple flavors you shouldnt have any problem, its a nice full buzz and goes great with drinking but i really never use mj in it, not worth wasting it

I smoked it for an hour my first time with a friend at an Indian restaurant around where I live and ended up puking my guts out. It was after i finished my meal when I started to feel sick. I put the money down for the food, tipped the guy who set up my hookah, walked outside and puked lol. We drove to my friends house and I puked in his sink. I then drove home and had to pull over and puke on the way there. Hookah is very fun to do...just dont over do it when you begin smoking it.

To be fair, that study was highly criticized for methodologies employed. Well, maybe we're talking about different studies.

Either way, its pretty clear smoking ANYTHING isnt exactly safe for you, so why stress the safety aspect? You're burning something and inhaling the smoke, its not gonna be great for you...

I've smoke a few time some weed mix with some wet tobbaco (3 apples), it was great ! I've smoke really hard on it, as it was not tasting weed but only the apple stuff... Gave me a great high, I had a really good experience with that.

Smoking Nargila (flavored tobacco) out of a hookah is equal to smoking three cigarettes per drag in terms of tar. Plus, in my experience, you always have to use a whole bunch of weed to get a hookah going well, if that's what you're smoking. So, it's fun if you do it very occasionally, but otherwise I'd leave it alone.

hookahs are crap, there worse than cigerettes and they dnt even give you the same feeling as cigerettes , there worse and dnt even have any effects, u might as well jus smoke some weed and eat an apple at the same time, if you want flavoured smoke

If you are smoking shisha out of a hookah, don't inhale it. treat it like a cigar. shisha is mostly molasses and you will get sick if you inhale a large quantity of it. i never really have a problem with it anymore but thats because i smoke way too much (cigarettes).

man, first time i had 2 cigs in an evening with a .5 of bud i was couchlocked and feeling sick. dont OD tobacco, its gross feeling

I can't believe these people saying not to inhale hookah smoke.

I have NEVER seen someone smoke a hookah and NOT inhale. The water cools the smoke similar to a bong and you can take really huge drags and blow out some bad-ass smoke rings. It is very smooth and almost nobody coughs from it. I have no clue why someone would get sick and/or throw up from hookah. I have seen a lot of first time smokers of any kind (including myself) use a hookah that was set up correctly, and have NEVER seen someone get sick from it...

I prefer to smoke weed, but sometime I don't want to get high, and hookah is perfect. It's great in social atmospheres.

Yeah it's not something I'm looking to do often, just something to try once.

My buddy had a four person hookah that we smoke bud out of and I think it's awesome...

People handle nicotine differently. But it's not the molasses or anything else making people sick, it's the nicotine, so just take it easy next time. And I agree with ModestMuse; I've never seen someone boot from just smoking hookah. Now, if you're shitfaced drunk and hit our hookah, you're fucked 'cause you're just askin' for a technicolor yawn.

I just remembered reading somewhere that you take in carcinogens from the charcoal? I highly doubt it. The charcoal doesn't touch the tobacco if you smoke correctly. The smoke is produced simply from the heat of the coal. Cooking with charcoal is commonplace, so I don't think the coal is a liability.

I just wanted to point out that not all shisha has tobacco in it, mostly molasses and dried fruits. there is tobacco free shisha

A buddy of mine is really into hookah, smokes it every day. And sometimes he'll come over and we'll play some xbox360 or something and just chill. And ive never had a bad response to it before, but the last time we must have smoked for like 3 hours straight (about 8 of us) and towards the end i was NOT feeling good. I didnt puke or anything, but i definitely didnt smoke anymore. Had some Jack in the Box, some water, and some fresh air, and i felt 1000% times better.

Smoke that shit in moderation. Take a break between bowls.

furthermore its being put through water and sitting in a chamber. any shit from charcoal and any other stuff from the tobacco.

if ur gettin any sort of buzz its oxygen deprivation or weed

weed is awesome through hookahs if u make sure its mixed in well and altogether damp

I wouldn't believe that to be true for all shisha, and just from the replies on this thread people smoke a wide variety of stuff in hookahs, not just shisha. Regardless of whats in the smoke, smoking itself, of anything, is easily overdone, with various ill effects, unless you pace yourself and smoke appropriate to your tolerances. People like Churchill in the past regularly smoked 20 or more cigars in a day but that's something they built up to; a beginner would find 2 in a row hard to tolerate. Same is true for a hookah, no matter what's in it... same is true for weed, etc...

It just seems like most of the bad experiences in here are based on overdoing it in general, maybe as a first time or maybe just a pacing issue. As expected, you take a break or throw up and later you feel better. Same thing happens to me when I blaze too much at once, hell it happened last night when we packed almost an entire black n mild wine flavor full of weed, really tight, and shared it among 3 of us. thing lasted 20 minutes and by the end i'd had too much... was it too much weed or too much of the wine flavor, or maybe just too much smoking? I dunno but I was ill for a short while.

Was not aware about the study's parameters being in question WaZ, thanks for pointing that out... bottom line here seems to be is it's inherently unhealthy to burn and inhale the smoke from anything containing carbon, even if you merely take it into your mouth. Those of us who do understand this (hopefully) so maybe it's not an issue of how much tar or nicotine or weed we're putting in the bowl, as long as you understand that you're doing something that may be pleasurable but should not be overdone.

Your body will let you know when you've had enough.

I doubt it was more due to the coal than the tobacco

If you were using a coal it tends to have a higher potency of monoxide

the monoxide gives you a slight headache/ buzzed/ dizzy feeling if you aren't too use to it.

Also some people are a little sloppy with their coals- they tend to let the ash sit on the foil and you end up inhaling a lot of ash-

Next take make sure that there are slight tiny holes in the foil and blow off the excess ash.

If you are ever hitting weed from the hookah- just take off the coal- forget the foil and just hit the bowl with a lighter

Smoking from hookahs are bomb mix shiisha and weed and it becomes wiisha i love that shit.
I;ve never greened from a hoot.
Every once in a blue moon i have one to many hoots of oil and i end up blacking out.

Hookah is fun, and I have yet to meet anyone who became "addicted" to hookah

if you're not using shisa and a coal...isn't it just a bong?
