Well, this site seems to be overrun with underage smokers rather than of age growers, and there doesn't seem to be enough traffic in the grow forums, so I'm attempting at asking my questions seperatly. Will this exhaust a 1000watt HPS aircooled hood from a 4x4 hydrohut?

If you insist on running a k, an air-cooled hood is MANDATORY and you will want to look into a 6" high-output-type exhuast fan and very likely will need to add an active intake to that tent. The passive flap intakes are fine for the intended heat load in there, but a k throws lots.
If so, that's only 35 watts per square food, aren't you suppose to get 50+ for great buds? I am most definitely getting a digi ballast no matter what however. If I get the 600watt with 4'' fan will I only need the passive intake? A 600watt bulb produces 95,000 lumens, that with the digi ballast will produce as minimum it states 20% more lumens, which equals 115, 000 lumens so 35,000 lumens less than a regular 1000k lamp, so it's not too far off. What do you think? And thanks for answering so quickly! To be honest, I don't play the numbers game. I play the game of maximum yield with minimum hassle, which, in this case, translates to: Are you going to shoot yourself in the foot trying to control heat in a small space under a K and end up with plants that yellow prematurely, yield poorly, herm, bolt, and set fluffy insubstantial buds? Are you going to have to spend so much money and effort exhausting that space that you would do better in a larger one?
When all things are laid on the table, I judge a plan by this simple question:
How easy will it be to maintain plant health in this setup?
The only thing you have going for ya is that one of those tent manufacturers just increased the size of the tent by about 6" in every direction, which doesn't sound like a lot, but volume-wise it is. Can't remember if it's homebox or hydrohut or if they're the same thing, lol... :jointsmile:
Don't even bother with a 4" fan. That's good for a small box, or a closet, or a flouro grow. Shell out for the 6" one. Then at least you are giving yourself a chance.
As the guy at the hydro shop says, "Sure it's possible. It's just how bad you want it" any time I suggest some odd or impractical arrangement for something...
I get the feeling you are urging me to get the 1000watter? The tent is actually 4'7''x 4'7'' but the inside "workable" area is 4x4...
I have a tough time exhausting a K from my grow space which is 5x6... I think the 600 will make your life easier.

lol I swear I got the feeling you wanted me to get the K, that's fine however, make life a lot easier. So even with the 600watt you think I should go above 4''? If I do get the 6''+carbon filter, so you think I'll need an active intake? Or just a passive? Like I was saying, with the electronic ballast and high quality light bulb, I'm getting 80% of the lumen output, and I'm keeping the plants under a couple feet, so I won't need major penetration...lol.
Passive is totally fine on a 600, and I'd still go for a larger exhaust. Again with the need to control temps, ya know?
The local grow shop here was putting together a package that includes a tent, exhaust, 600digi complete, climate controller (oooh! trickness!), carbon scrubber, and ducting for only like $1200 (I'd have to check but it is a ridiculously low number) TOTAL, whcih is a KILLER deal on all those toys. The shopkeeper is someone whose instincts I trust, he encourages use of the 600digi in the space, and one of my buddies just picked up that pile o' goodies and is currently veggin' away like a mofo.
Oh, and check out the odorsok carbon filter... it's COOL. (and cheap and easy to get rid of and even machine washable! hahahaha)
I'd have to be a sadistic bitch to tell you to go for the K.
The jury's still out on that one though...
With the larger exhaust, I could put that light pretty dang close to the plants eh? Do you know how far off a 600watt is starts to lose power? I Actually was going to buy everything seperate and I believe it came out to something around 1200, and it's a canadian site, I'd rather order Canadian for a few reasons.Quote:

Oh, how loud is the votex/light/ ballast?
Exhaust has nothing to do with how close you can put your light. That is unless you are using a cool tube or a vented hood hooked up to your exhaust. Lights "throw" heat as well. Some throw more heat, some less. Hps throws less heat then mh and cmh even less then that. So most use the back of the hand method as to how close your light should be.
Do not get a 1000 watt for that box or you will have problems with heat. A 600 will do fine. Get a 6 inch vortex and yes they make lots of noise. Get or make a duct muffler, mount fan in box, ballast outside. The bulb makes noise as well.

Welcome to my world. But I don't just have the 1000HPS and exhausts... oh no. Add a pump, airstone, constant-flow NFT (water noise), and 3 more HIDs and you have what is all within 10 feet of my bed. The beauty of it is that if you have herb, you can sleep through it, and actually the water is relaxing. Why do ya THINK I grow the Black Indica... lolQuote:

How long will this bulb last? With 3 months on 18 hours and 9 months 12? IYO...
I have also made up my mind to get the 600hps electronic, horilux bulb and 6'' blower with scrubber :)

A switchable digi ballast is not as much more $$ as you would think. If you are only buying one HID get a switchy and a MH bulb to veg with.
Black Indica is a head-kicking insomnia/pain management strain.
Hey, despite being a noob, first grow.. I'm using a 600w digital in a cabinet with 8 sq. ft and about 38 cubic ft of room in the grow chamber. I picked up a MH conversion bulb and it's working great for veg. What I've learned on a couple of warm days is cooling the box this summer is going to be a bitch. Currently, my lighting is in a sealed reflector with a dedicated cooling system, closed loop separate from the intake/exhaust system for the chamber. I have a Suncort 6" duct fan drawing air over the light and it seems to be working well, but I'm expecting to have to increase air flow during the warmer months.
In your original question you posted a substantial fan w/carbon filter.. Seems to me keeping your light colling system separate is the best approach.

More lumen output - up to 30% more lumens output than some old style magnetic ballasts ...More light equals more yield. We urge you to test this yourself with a good quality light meter. Be sure to also check how much power the ballast is using with an ammeter as many so called 600w magnetic ballasts now draw up to 750w as standard to try to keep up with Lumatekâ??s lumen output.
More lumens generated per watt of electricity consumed - Lumatek ballast have increased efficacy over magnetic ballasts. They lose fewer watts from the power supply to the lamp. This a power factor of 95%+. The high frequency output results in low power loss at the cathodes in addition to better overall power management.
