Age of Conan - PC

Anyone anticipating this game release?!?!?! Since I'm not a WoW freak and Vanguard fell through hard, I've been looking for a new MMORPG to sink into and Age of Conan looks good as of right now.

Anyone else gonna try it out when it comes out supposedly in March?

MMO's I've played: Guild Wars, Shadowbane, WoW, Vangaurd:Saga of heroes, Vendetta Online, City of Villains

FPS I've played/play: CS, CS:S, BF2, BF2:2142,

Anyone else miss playing the Desert Combat mod of 1942? I miss it!!!!! BOOOO WHOOOOOO!!!:(

AoC looks pretty bad ass, but I'll admit that I'm really looking forward to Warhammer.
I've been a fan of the warhammer world for a while and Mythic is the one making the game...Mythic made DAoC, which in my opinion is the greatest MMO EVER made, until they went and fucked it up by releasing ToA.

See, I've seen alot of trailers and shit like that about Warhammer and to be honest the game might be awesome, but the graphics aren't what I want. It looks more like WoW then what a graphic intense game should be these days. Out of my experience, Vangaurd was the closest to coming to the graphics I think games should be.

Yeah graphics isn't everything (Look at Vangaurd now lol their gameplay was horrid) BUT it wouldn't take much effort to make the game playable AND have kick ass graphics.

warcraft is fucking unreal. the graphics are shit hot, but the gameplay is seriously seriously good.

Psht if a games solid, graphics don't mean a damn thing. As long as we're not talking like 2d.

I know you admit this...but I just strongly feel that solid gameplay trumps the crap outta graphics anyday. I mean If someone throws a game at you thats pretty as hell but the controls are cumbersome, the UI sucks, and the content is week, but on the other hand you're presented with a game with mediocre graphics but great play balance, good UI, Fluid control, and good content...which are you gonna play?

Agree, I ASSUME (which is umm not too smart of me) that companies KNOW that graphics aren't everything and would concern themselves to making the game playable along with having the best looking game.

This is quite the opposite of what happens but ONE DAY, ONNNNEEEEE DAYYYYYYY there will be an MMORPG that will blow everything away because the company/companies put 110% into making it and didn't concern themselves with release date or money issues. If EVERY company released the game when it was DONE...we wouldn't need patches. PERIOD.

I've always been a huge mmorpg fan. I've played so many. Runescape, Ragnarok, Everquest, Everquest II, SWG, WoW, Asheron's Call, etc.

Back in the day, Runescape was the shit. On 56k and a shitty computer(before CS existed), it was the best thing since sliced bread. Then Ragnarok dominated, never liked Everquest much, SWG was the best game I've ever played, WoW is dying, and Asheron's Call is dead.

Honestly, mmo's aren't what they used to be. There are so many new game developers looking for change and some kind of revolution in gaming with all these next gen games coming out. That's not the right idea. Sure, I can understand making some innovative games for people that appeal to them, but what about the old rpg fans? I'll be honest with you, I loved blizzard. Starcraft, warcraft, and diablo were some of the best games I've ever played. When they announced the World of Warcraft... I was so excited. I could imagine myself playing a character in the warcraft world and follow the story of warcraft's history and mold the future. It's nothing like that. Basically, you either grind, quest, or bot to level 70 and either raid or pvp for armor sets. That's not an appealing game to me. And now that WoW has become such a big hit, all mmo's are using it as a guideline. They're not trying anything innovative. They're just making WoW knockoffs and more action or shooter type mmo's.

With that aside, I've been playing Final Fantasy XI for a little over 2 months now. I tried playing FFXI years ago and hated it. I couldn't get into it. I actually tried starting over on it twice and both were failures. This time I went into the game by picking a random server not knowing anyone or anything about the game. That was probably one of the best decisions I've made since the SWG combat upgrade was released.

Unlike most mmo's, I believe FFXI is moving in the right direction. It has a storyline. It has a point to playing. You live the life of your character in the world of Vana'diel and discover the mysteries of the world and how it became to exist and why it is corrupt. It's 5 years old and there are 4th expansion was just released. The max level has been 75 for 5 years. You want to know why? Because of the way they built the game. One character can play every job in the game. One character can do everything in the game. That allows you to actually play the game, follow the story, and do the expansion packs on one character while enjoying every aspect of the game at once. Yes, it's a difficult game. You're forced to party after about level 10. But that makes sense! If everyone is forced to party, then everyone has to party. If everyone can be any job, everyone will have all different levels to level (when I say this, I mean you can change your job at any time. Just go to your home, talk to your moogle, and change jobs.) This means that even the veteran players with 2 or 3 level 75 jobs will have lower level jobs to level as well as all the new people joining. Not only that, but the game is cross platform. You can play it on PC, Xbox 360, or PS2 on the same servers. And it's multi lingual. People play on the same servers from America, Europe, and Japan. This allows 3 different prime times for the 3 different time zones. Therefore there are always tons players online! They speak a different language you say, there is an auto translate feature! You can auto translate every word that you need to communicate with someone in the game. It's brilliant. Not only that, but the game is absolutely beautiful. It's 5 years old, and yet it still has beauty. The designers are actual artists. The music glows with emotion. Have you ever played a final fantasy game? If you have, I'm sure you'll understand.

I'm done ranting. I hope you enjoy Age of Conan when it's released. Take it easy man.

Updates? Are you not talking about fixes? If you can show me a game that has patched itself, and has NOT fixed something (PC games that is, that connect to the internet). Codo's to j00. But in my experience with game's in all genre's, every game has fixed something. I would bet that every single EA game has problems. I thought I'd try out 2142 since its been a couple years since it has come out.....well, I found bugs the first fucking time playing.

The only game that I've played where the owners/programmers/whoever cared to listen to your bug reports and fixed them ASAP, was Vendetta Online (although maybe only 50 people world wide played it) it was a joyous occasion when it only took them an hour to fix every problem.

yeah AoC can't come soon enough man, you find me on a PvP server for sure!Think ima have to do some upgrades for it though after seeing what tabula rasa wanted from my system, 2g of RAM aint shit anymore, 4 is the new 2..And 256meg graphics... time ti get a 512 lol..

and WoW graphics being awesome? lool, game was drawn with a dmn crayon. Not even gonna bother with trying out WAR, only people that really gonna go to it are gonna be DAoC players, and maybe people who played the table top game years ago really..Everyone else is looking forward to AoC coming out ;p Game sounds cool but WoW was all the cartoon looking graphics I could stand, World of Warhammer lol

Warhammer does look graphics wise very similar to WoW. I like the more "real" look AoC is using and like Vanguard used.

Wow patched itself quite frequently to add new content and NOT fix something. However those patches usually did result in something breaking and a subsequent fix patch needing to be applied. DAoC did it too, although there was usually much less breakage involved there.

Plus your view of a game being 100% complete and perfect upon release is pretty unrealistic. For a game to come out that perfect it would pretty much have to never be released, you can't realistically get as many people testing a game as there are going to be playing. So in a larger population you're going to have more "creative" players who will stumble across play balance issues and use them to their advantage. Or if theres an invisible hole in the wall somewhere, its much more likely to be found if t here are 100 people walking by it every 5 minutes as opposed to 10 every 5.

I do agree that games are rushed to market these days and this results in poor launches and the like. However I think the expectation of working on a game until it has attained "perfection" and thereby freedom from patches is impossible.



Edit: Completely agree with n1nj4 on his ffxi opinion. It's the only mmo I've recently played that I feel was doing a good job. The only reason I quit is because I didn't have a good solid group of friends to play with. That and I like my social life.

imo..having had an account on WoW since 2004, from what I have seen most patches were to either.. fix broken game mechanics (quests, items, mobs, skills) or changes to be made to player classes. New content patches have been few and far between, and usually involved a different way to grind out reputation =/
