are you sure its a mold and not dead plant material building up on your roots, or something else reacting in your res.? There is a product, i think its called, hydrozyne, this product doesnt have any 'living' things in it, where there is another product, and i cant think of the name right now, that has a 'living' product in it, but the problem is that by the time it leaves the manufacturer and gets the the store shelves its at about 50% and then by the time it gets to your house its almost completely dead, but the hydrozyne is the product you want. This product was found on accident and what it does is allows the plant to use the dead material that comes off the roots as nutes... maybe Rhizo will have more info on this than me.... Its a great product and i think all hydro's should have some on thier shelves at home...
If its mold on the hydroton, i'll be honest, i have not freakin clue other than maybe rinse some more hydroton and transplant into some fresh, but like i said, that is only a guess.

This belongs in plant problems.
What does it look like? It is white and crusty on the hydroton? Is it brown and slimy on the roots? What is the ambient humidity in your grow area? Description would help.
Cannazyme is the enzyme product that helps break down dead cells into their basic components and allow re-uptake as nutes by the plant. Use it CAREFULLY, since the break down process will release a bunch of stuff into your res. I've killed a mother with the stuff; she ended up dying of a SERIOUS and sudden nute overdose... so when in doubt, flush!!!
I'd do a hefty rinse and a res change, run with peroxide and cannazyme for a day, and then change the res again back to your normal nute solution.
I've never dealt with a serious slime buildup though so take my advice as a hunch more than experience.
I find that my brown res slime/sludge just gets stuck on the pump filter so I rinse that off weekly and remove any other solids from the res with a small strainer.

my bad
Its white fuzzyness its on the hydrotron but mainly on the roots after the 1st time i dunked it in peroxide it was all gone but today its not as much but all over the roots im 100% its mold, its on the hydrotron because the roots are going through it, not "growing on the rocks"
the humidity is 31% and 1 of my plants died (unrelated) and i took the plant out and left the hole open for like 2 days but didnt think that would cause mold in 2 days

You got me then Jimmy.....I've only use hydroton briefly and never had anything like tha happen so I'm afraid I cannot offer you anything here.
I like what Stinky says though so that would probably be what I would do if it were me.

hello mate sorry to hear that, if its brown stuff on your roots its a water based virus called (pyphium)it kills your roots and stops the roots from taking up any nutes, you can treat it with pyphium powder you just add to your res.i just harveted my crop i thought it was a small yeild due to the cold but infact i had pyphium.
goodluck.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

well the roots are slightly brown but thats from the liquid karma
but my thought it that it keeps comming back because im not killing it, theres its still avive and it just keeps spreading so i need to kill this shit.

Ii dont think it has anything to do with the hydroton, but it just happens to be there because of the roots

Cannazyme is just another product like the one i was talking about. The one that i could not remember the name of is called Sensizyme, they (the manufacturer) is having a hard time controlling the product because of the live enzyme's that are in the product. The time that it takes to get from the plant to the your house over half of the living enzymes are dead and will cause more problems than its worth. Hydro stores are having a hard time getting thier hands on this product because of this current issue.
Now. there is a couple things you can do to help your situation, the products that i personally like and am currently using is 1) Hydrozyme 2) Hydroguard. These products should NEVER be used together, they will kill each other and will be of no benefit to you and could possibly kill your plants. First you want to change and clean your res, followed with using the hydrozyme. The hydrozyme will actually use the matter that is on your roots and in your hydroton as plant food. Once your plant has recovered you will want to use the Hydroguard.
Both of these products can be found in your local hydro store or online, i will post a link for ya so you can see what i am talking about.

Google Canna Nutrients. There's only one distributor on the US east coast... lol... I hope it catches on; that's an EXCELLENT hydro nute manufacturer.

i dont mean to bash the product, BUT, if there is only one distributor for the entire east coast then i would have a couple questions.....why is it only one on the east coast? Is this a new product just recently developed? If it is new then there is not real world test on the product other than those that were conducted by the manufacturer in the perfect environment, and we all dont have that perfect environment. I personally would want to talk to the manufacturer and find out what is in the product, is it a live enzyme or dead that makes the product work well. After talking to the manufacturers of the other products i was able to find out which one is best due to one having a live enzyme and the other not.

Consider the source...
I got my info from an unbiased individual who is involved in setup and troubleshooting of small to medium sized home and commercial grows. The users so far have given the stuff two thumbs up. So do I. I consider it like the pure blend pro of the hydro world.... REALLY hard to fuck up, solid, good quality, and worth the only slightly-elevated price tag.
This is their info if you're interested:

I didnt say there wasnt, what i did say was "is this a new product?", if there is only one distributor on the east coast then there isnt much to go on now is there...i'm sure there are other countries that use it, but if its not available locally, it could be very difficult to get ahold of, there are other products out there that will do the samething, just requires some research.......

I did, i contacted the manufacturers of the two products, hence the detail information........(theres two different manufacturers with the products that i talked about)
Bottom line is get the advice, take into count what you have available to you locally (paying in cash) and use what you have available and/or what your hydro store has (after all that should be a great source of information for growing 'tomato's'....

sounds good, but i dont have any hrdro stores around here i i gotta order everything off the internet, so wat should i do for the next few days until it comes?

btw my plants are really looking like shit, and there the last seeds of that strain there about a little over a month old. this is too young to clone rite? i got all of the stuff stinky says you need in the clonin section of growin the darkness thread. could clones work this early?
& im completely new to clonin, tryed it before but never worked
-
Very Bad mOLD!! (hydro, hydroton media)
As long as they are big enough and not showing any signs of stress, you should be able to get clones off them.
-
Very Bad mOLD!! (hydro, hydroton media)
Another plug for Cannazym......my hydro guy tells me he likes that one the best. That's good enough for me. :)

I guess it depends how big your shoots are?! I was able to clone my gal early and got 6 from her and veg and got two more when she started flowering. 7 out of 8 survived and i got pics to prove it. One of this was less than 2 inches long because it came from the bottom of the plant where she got little to no light but it rooted in my bubble cloner just dont if a clone this short will be able to survive the transplant since some of her leaves may come in contact with the soil surface.
Anyway i say if the shoots are big enough to you then give it a shot, there's only one way to know and thats experience!
-
Very Bad mOLD!! (hydro, hydroton media)
well the shoots are about 2inches long, and i gave it a shot hope it works justin case my plants get fucked, and i ordered cannazym, hydrozyme , hydroGuard bio fungicide and now im broke so i hope at least 1 works
-
Very Bad mOLD!! (hydro, hydroton media)
you wont be disappointed in the purchase of the, even if you have them for future grows. A clone can be taking if the brach you are cutting is 2inches long, but there is a higher mortality rate, waiting until they are little bit longer would be best, but you gotta do what you gotta do to save your genetics....
-
Very Bad mOLD!! (hydro, hydroton media)
A clone should include the growing tip, a node with the start of side growth and a leaf, and a lower node which will be stripped and dipped. This is kinda the bare-bones minimum that will save you hassle. You can go smaller but it's a PITA.
-
Very Bad mOLD!! (hydro, hydroton media)
yo stinky, got a question: i took 2 clippins off each plant and both off the same plant are brown around where i cut the leaves and the rest is bright yellow <- they gunna die? btw that plant looks like SHIT leaves stem is weak as shit and the bootom leaves are yellow and shit(tryin to save it but i think its fucked). i suck at clonin so anything i can do to fix em?
-
Very Bad mOLD!! (hydro, hydroton media)
btw stinky the brown and yellow on the clone mean its dying? anything i can do to fix em?
oh and u ever tryed canna Rhizotonic? it any good?
-
Very Bad mOLD!! (hydro, hydroton media)
Are they still limp? Clones DO go yellow as they are using up their stored nutrients but that sounds odd. How much light do you have them under?
-
Very Bad mOLD!! (hydro, hydroton media)
there prity stiff but mad yellow and brown, give me 2 mins and ill post a pic

that clone is off the worst dammaged of the moldy plants
this one
-
Very Bad mOLD!! (hydro, hydroton media)
Ahh you have a leaf, not a clone.
You gotta take a chunk that includes some stem and a couple nodes.
Check the cloning sticky under basic growing for instructions with photos to see what size cuttings you need.
-
Very Bad mOLD!! (hydro, hydroton media)
ohh, and i cleaned out the revisor for like an hour and gave all the plants a good peroxide cleanin and i dont see any new mold so, i tink thell be fine until i get the stuff i ordered
-
Very Bad mOLD!! (hydro, hydroton media)
Those plants aren't really big enough to clone off, and if you are taking cuts off a moldy plant, chances are they will rot as well. I'd work on the mold issue first before doing anything else.

There's nothing wrong with the rapidrooters; you need a bigger healthier mother. Then worry about taking cuttings.
I've only ever used an ez cloner in terms of a pre-fab aero/bubble type system. But even with that, you need a pretty good sized piece of plant.
