Whats the best and easiest way to clean a sherlock? (retaining res is of little importance)
LOL what's a sherlock, a wooden pipe? I recommend a short one less than the length of two matches, use matches to clean the shit out, and burn the remaining shektus drops off with a clipper.
or high quality glass!Quote:

Same way you'd clean any glas piece. Isopropyl alcohol or boiling water and/or rinsing with salt water.
Just boil it because alcohol in my opinion leaves a funky flavor for like the next bowl or more.
is it possible to just soak it in water? im at a college and i dont wanna just throw my bowl into a boiling vat of water while im making ramen or something
not water unless it is boiling. the resin isn't water-soluble but with heat you can melt it (hence the boiling). isopropyl alcohol dissolves resin though, and the salt is an abrasive. you might want to let the peice sit in the iso for a while, too.
Sick I just got a sherlock bubbler.!! Seems these are becoming very popular
there are 2 ways ive found work best, depending on how smashed or what my mood is at the time. for your smaller pieces take a ziploc bag put your alcohol and salt in it put your piece in there close the bag and shake that baby up.for bigger pieces like sherlocks just take an old clean margarine bowl or something similar and put your alcohol in there now place your piece in there and let it soak for half an hour or so,now depending on how much resin buildup you have will determine what you use as a cleaning implement,q-tips and small paint brushes work good.dip the q-tips in the alcohol as your cleaning helps it go faster. on my pipes i dont bother with the salt its not really needed, works wonders on bongs thou.Oh the most important part is the most easiest to forget, after you have done all of this, rinse your pieces in water, alcohol generally doesnt leave any kind of residues, but some folks say it leaves a funky taste that ive never gotten. Rinse those puppies out boys :) anyway dude good luck.
Use epsom salt, its got bigger crystals. you can use grain alcohol if you want. clean it often or you could buy some 420. check your headshop.
idk about boiling, it makes your room stink of resin and i heard somewhere that repeated heating/cooling makes the glass brittle. i've broken more than a few glass pipes but i can't say it was b/c of boiling.
Most effective way is boiling, I use a little Oxy-clean or similar white-powder type cleaning product and sprinkle it all over the shamrock before I pour the boiling water on. If u gotta dishwasher, Cascade may do the trick ??
yeah, it'll stink so don't do it if your 'rents are around! And it's "gross" whatever, it's cleaning all that resin and crap off... would you rather be smoking it?! bleh
Efferdent.
Be careful with boiling. It doesn't make the glass more brittle, but the rapid heat change can crack it. If you boil it, put it in the water when its cold (or room temperature or warm, whatever) and heat the pipe up WITH the water. Don't just drop it in boiling water.
But, you wanted something that doesn't involve boiling, so just soak it in isopropyl alcohol for a day or so. Mix it around occasionally, and you'll be fine.
