Prison is not nice, apparently.
The latest in a very long line of decisions by the British Prison Authorities is this:
Prisoners have now to be adressed by their first names, and the prison officers must now knock on the cell doors before entering.
This apparently will be more respectful to the prisoners and will improve the prisoners standard of life, as the governments inspector of prisons has stated that "prisons are not a nice enviroment to be in"
This is in the same week that our local prison (nicknamed the Hilton) has had a new library containing 44,000 books opened, whilst we collect tokens every time we shop at the supermarket to get books for our local school.
Here was me thinking prison was supposed to be a punishment.

Don't call women inmates girls, prison staff are told

Don't call women inmates girls, prison staff are told | the Daily Mail
The description is deemed 'condescending', while the use of 'lady or ladies' is also banned because the equivalent for male lags is gentleman or gentlemen, which is understandably little used.........Staff were also warned never to use 'insulting nicknames' or racial or impersonal terms. Mr McLellan also recommended that warders must give inmates bad news 'with compassion'.............Conservative Shadow Justice Secretary Nick Herbert said the Government should concentrate on tackling the crisis of a jail population bulging to more than 80,000 rather than how to address prisoners.
He added: "There are enough serious problems in our prisons without wasting time on pedantic political correctness."

More than likely LOL
I know last Christmas there was a major row because the prisoners dinner was not cooked just as they would have liked it.
Thousands of old age pensioners in the UK did not have the luxury of Christmas dinner, it makes you sick.
I had better shut up now as I get angry thinking about it.

It really is no wonder that the majority of criminals re-offend once they serve their time (or get let out early, which happens now more often than not).
Civillian living - you have to do everything for yourself.
Serving time - can do a degree whilst inside, change yourself entirely, get a better job when you come out than somebody that has been climbing their career ladder for 15 years.
It makes me laugh that these criminals complain over trivial things such as 'no hot xmas dinner' and no chances given to them out in the civillian world once their time is served.
What the hell did they think would be the consequences of stabbing somebody just because they wanted that person's new iPhone?

The guards really should give the prisoners a hug once in a while. You know, just to make their stay a little more warming and pleasant.

If they don't like it there, they can always go to Phoenix... the Sherrif there makes all the inmates wear PINK clothes and drawers. They are housed in a compound in the desert, in tents....no A/C, but if they are good, they get a fan. They get fed PB&J and water. They are required to have cable TV, so they do..... all they get is the weather channel so they can see how hot its gonna be for the road gangs. The women get treated the *SAME*, so the ACLU can't complain about preferential treatment.

Is that a prison for people who steal from multinational corporations to build orphanages?

i guess its profitable for the homeless to become criminals,
so what do you guys think? the criminals are getting the respect they deserve? or what would be a better reasonable punishment? after all, holding them just in jail, no matter how brutal the environment is, costs shit load of money.
what would you suggest?
