Gift giving dilemma.

The birthday of one of my closest friends is almost here, and I have a small dilemma and would appreciate some advice. For his birthday I always get him a gift card for one of his favorite stores and a new smoking accessory. He's been talking all year about how much he wants a classic hookah, so I bought him one. Unfortunately I found out last night that his boyfriend has purchased him one as well. I definitely don't want to step on his lover's toes, but I really went out of my way to find him an awesome hookah that I think he'll love. Should I go ahead and give it to him, or keep it for myself (the head shop doesn't give refunds on smoking accessories) and buy him something else?

umm call his boyfriend and talk to him about it..... idk maybe you could trade if you really want him to have that one and sell the other one off and buy him another present

If you don't want to ruffle any feathers, I say keep it for yourself, or sell it if you don't want it (God I'm soooo jealous, always wanted a hookah!), and get him something else. This is if your financial situation can handle the extra gift. It's hard this time of year.

Hookahs, aren't just smoking tools, but works of art in themselves.
I'd still give it too him (hey, they'd have one each then - no arguing about who gets to suck on the pipe! jk), it's a thoughtful present, and they look great great!

I'm waiting till later in the day and am going to call his BF and discuss this with him, this is a really nice hookah and I'd love for my friend to have it. I just know it would really knock his socks off. Put together it is almost four feet tall. It is made of blue (his favorite color) glass and brass with filigree detailing, and has four hoses with really lovely engraved mouth pieces. It all comes in a nice leather case as well, with pipe tools and a starter pack of the necessary charcoal tablets. His BF is pretty laid back so we should be able to work something out, but if not, I do have enough extra money that I could buy him a nice glass Sherlock or bubbler.

I second Roth, either way it sounds like your an extremly considerate friend. Getting him something he wants AND getting it in his favorite color. As Flameon said a piece of handblown glass is art, and not just a tool. Plus i mean..hell having two of something is always better then having just 1.

Ok, so his fella and I met up for drinks while my friend was at work last night, and we worked it out. He is going to give the smaller, less impressive pipe he bought to his cousin for Xmas. We will be giving his boy friend the nice hookah I purchased (his jaw dropped when he saw it) as a joint gift from the two of us, and he is reimbursing me for half the cost. Dilemma solved, and no one's feelings got hurt. We have also resolved to consult one another in the future regarding gifts of this nature.
