Hey guys. I stay in South Africa and i've heard some stories about weed bushes that grow into trees and give off buds for years. I dunno if its true or not, so i'm curious, has anyone else ever heard of these things, and if so, what kinda weed is it?
Absolutely. Cannabis is a perrinial whick means it normally doesn't die during the winter as long as the roots don't freeze. Nowadays though a lot of the strains don't grow that big but a lot of strains can. I met a guy that showed me some pictures of his outdoor grow in southern Cali. That produced 240 lbs off of 3 large plants. He was developing a fertilizer to increase yeild.
So do you think if i tried to keep my weed roots safe throughout winter that perhaps some of them might actually grow back? Or perhaps could you fool it into thinking it was permanently summer?

No, cannabis is an annual plant. The plant dies in the fall and drops seeds, which grow into new plants in the spring.Quote:

Cannabis is a perrinial. The roots will regrow in the summer if not frozen during winter. This is how to keep a good mother plant outdoors. Usually all you have to do is mulch heavey on the soil over the roots.
Hmm i just recently read something about molasses on this site and it said that cannabis is a annual. Maybe the guy made a mistake.
cannabis is an annual plant that dies after it gives seeds. Try growing a plant and pollinating it then see how long it lives.
Perrenal(sp) plants go into a dormant state during winter. An example of this is what trees do. Now I live in the south, so the winters are mild to say the least. I have also grown outdoors, and harvested the main buds from a plant, yet left the plant still mostly in tact (roots, stalk, some small buds and leaves). The plant never grew back in the spring. By that time the stalk had died and rotted. If it were a perrenal plant it would have grown back like a tree after loseing it's leaves.Quote:

i think that they can grow back. however, the more ya cut off in harvest, and the smaller the plantcome winter, the more likely itll die.
anyone ever tried growing thier plant for more than a year in veg? id love to see the size of the sucker...
If you want to see some awesome mothers watch Jorge Cervantes' Ultimate grow DVD. They have some mothers that are literally trees. And cannabis is annual and should die off after producing seeds, but because it is a plant, it is subject to the irregularities of mother nature. So yes, you got lucky. Unless someone created a perennial hybrid, which, if they did they deserve major accolades.

similar happened to me. i had a beutyy growing at 40" in my window and then i overwatered before the first week of flowering could even finish :(

The only reason you can keep a mother for a very long time is that you don't allow the mother to complete her life cycle, which involved producing seeds, and then dying off.
Keeping a mother for many years indoors is very different from keeping a plant alive for many years of freeze/that cycles. Indoors, you are tricking her into behaving as if she was living in a single long summer growing season that you have extended to many years.
Killerweed, have you personally ever chopped a cannabis plant to ground and had it grow back?

Some of the seed germinates in the Autumn that it drops, especially if you get rains before the frosts hit. Most seedlings die in the first cold snap, but those that survive the winter really boom once the weather warms.Quote:

cannabis is an annual plant, but is possilble to re-veg under artificial lights. and in some tropical climates is possible to re-veg outdoors. i once left two female plant full of buds mature and the plants re-veg leaves and branches from inside the buds and i let them grow the end result is very mature buds mixed with fresh buds but during this process they lost some potency. i think i have one pic of that. here you can see, is the first 2 plants.
