Depends on how high you're trying to get. If you want to get blasted then hold the smoke in for a while. If you're just trying to get slightly stoned, hold for like 3-5 seconds.
If that was the case, then don't you think people could conserve their weed a whole lot more?
I usually try to hold my hits for a while. I don't always do that though.
Supposedly all the THC is absorbed within the first few seconds, but I've found holding a hit in 15-30 seconds increases the buzz quality, after allowing yourself to catch your breath again.
yea it's always been your supposed to hold it in for atleast 17 seconds.....
dude,,,,,most thc is absorbed immediately....thats why you still get baked even if you blow it out immediately....but holding it in usually induces coughing, if you took a decent hit. thats probably why holding it in really makes you higher sometiems.
The bulk of it is absorbed very quickly. If you have very little, hold it in as long as you can, but a few seconds will do it.

man i had a discussion with my friend. do u inhale through the mouth or through the nose. i don't mean through the nostril. I got high and he was barely high. and he said he would inhale through his mouth.

Take the hit until u think ur gonna cough, or a little sooner if ur takin bonghits, so u can clear it, and then just breathe in as much as you can. If you feel like your gonna cough, the fresh air will make it go away. Then swallow, and let go.
If you only have a little bit of weed, then u can hold the hits in for like 15-20 seconds. Bad for your lungs, but will get the job done off of 1 or 2 hits. If the bud is good

sometimes ill hit blunts for longer depending on how many people are hitting it

yo what are u guys all talking about. first of all I inhale the smoke for like 10-15 seconds, then when I take the pipe away inhale through the nose then let go when I'm out of breath. Now unless u got fucking long lasting lungs u don't really have that much of a choice if ur not taking a little pussy hit. Also remember that u gotta let the smoke cycle through the lungs. so no 5 seconds doesn't always do the damn trick when some of the smoke still hasn't even reached the lungs. plus u guys saying its worse for ur lungs to hold it in a tad longer haven't posted any research, ur just spreading ur ass talk around to prove ur bull point.

have you ever seen the inside of a lung sugar? it doesnt have much place to cycle.....once its in there its inthere, and even if it was, how would holding your breath allow it to cycle threough your lungs? the best way to get the smoke throughout all your lungs is take deep breaths....not really a matter of time. and its just common fucking sense that holding it in is worse for your lungs. think of all the bad shit floating around int he smoke....holding it in their gives it a little more time to attach to the side of your alveoli's or however its spelled. that means its not good.
i find that as the pot head gets older he tends to just smoke it more like a cigarette....just holding it in for a few seconds and lets it out....because my theory is that their state of mind changes about it....instead of "oh dude i'm going to get soo fucked up this shyt is tight as fuk blah blah blah" it becomes "goddamn work sucked today i got yelled at by my boss i had to fill 3 times the ammount of orders i need to relax blah blah blah...anyone else experience this? of course by my theory you would have already had to experience it which would mean older smokers.

I hate to beat a dead horse but, yeah THC is absorbed in the first couple of seconds so really only have to hold in the smoke for a short time. Anything longer is just oxygen deprivation. On the other hand, if you ever smoke saliva you HAVE to hold it for at least 20-30 seconds because the active ingredient is absorbed so slow.
