Iranians Mark Anniversary of Takeover
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) â?? Thousands of Iranians nationwide demonstrated Sunday to celebrate the 28th anniversary of the takeover of the U.S. Embassy by militant students, state television reported.
Demonstrators in the capital, Tehran, including elementary school students, gathered outside the former U.S. Embassy, chanting anti-U.S. and anti-Israeli slogans. They burned the two countries' flags and warned Washington to learn from the hostile incident.

NO, REALLY.........they have NO hostilities towards the U.S. or Israel. We should just let these folks have their peaceful nuclear power and let them be. LMAO!
I guess we just don't know how to celebrate here.....on the 4th of July I guess we should be chanting "Death to Great Britain" and burn a flag? People better WAKE UP!!

It's hard to imagine a people celebrating an event that marked the end of a reign by a brutal dictator. The US foreign policy support of the Shah and our involvement in Operation Ajax were the root causes for Embassy takeover. It could be argued that Operation Ajax resulted in the birth of modern radical Islamic terror.
As wrong and misguided as it was to take innocent hostages in 1979, blind flag waving without consideration to history will only lead to repeating the same mistakes.
In 2008, it will be the 55th anniversary of Operation Ajax, but I doubt there will be many parades in the US to celebrate. We are a bit busy at the moment repeating those forementioned mistakes.

I think a similar response might be had here on the day Bush leaves office, I know I'd be willing to dance in the streets. I agree with the above post, they had reason to celebrate the removal of the puppet dictatorial Shaw, a US puppet and brutal dictator.

A country that is defying world opinion regarding their nuclear program has a piss festival chanting death to America, death to Israel and what do we get for a response? "Bush is bad". I don't know if that is funny or just sad.
It's real evident in here that many hate their own country more than the ones that would see us all dead.

So, are we the ones with thousands in the streets chanting "death to Iran"?

Not taking into account the reasons that they are still having these anti-American "piss festivals" is a political and intellectual pitfall. Even if we put aside the documented history of why the Iranians do not trust our government, we can forward to the present day situation and understand why they say publicly that they hate America.
Now, put down the stars and stripes for a minute (you can keep the lapel flag pin) and look at the situation without bias.
1. The most powerful military nation in the world has invaded Iran's neighbor and now lives at it's border.
2. Iran has been refered to as part of the "Axis of Evil" by the administration of the most powerful military nation in the world.
3. Bush has stated that Iran will never possess nuclear capabilities and WWIII is a distinct probability if Iran gets a nuclear weapon.
4. The US has set up 14 permanent bases in neighboring Iraq and a huge embassy that can house, um, uh 7000, uh, diplomatic personnel.
5. The current administration has ramped up the war rhetoric (just like they did with Iraq) in the past 18 months.
6. A retired US general recently commented that US forces will be in "the region" for 25 to 50 more years.
7. The majority of US Presidential candidates will not take a pre-emptive conventional or even nuclear strike off the table when refering to Iran.
So, unbiasedly, which country is really threatening the other?
Iran is attempting to mobilize it's population with anti-US propaganda to get ready for war. Hard to blame them, especially since they have been screwed over by our foreign policy for 50+ years.
Would the world be better with a different regime in Tehran? Of course. Would the world be better with a different regime in Washington? Definately.
We don't hate our country, but we resent the lies that will keep our troops there for 25 years and we despair at the prospects of another war that will further diminish the respect of the world that this great nation once possessed.

O.K., lets REALLY look at this without bias. Granted on all what you've stated but lets look at the other side:
1) Wants the destruction of Israel
2) Paintings on our old embassy walls of the Statue of Liberty looking like the grim reaper.
3) Funding of terrorists groups
4) Importing of weapons that kill our soldiers.
5) "war rhetoric"..."Death to America"
Just to name a few.........
Now if WE were to have a "Fuck Iran" day in the U.S. where school children gathered and chanted "Death to the Persians"......there would be a sizable portion of the people hear screaming bloody murder.
Where are these people in Iran? DO NOT even try to convince me that the ENTIRE country is of this sentiment.
This was a state sponsored event and it was wrong! Is it so hard for the left in here to state such a thing?

So does every other Arab country. Isreal has proven quite capable of defending itself. Why does every threat to Isreal become a US problem?
2) Paintings on our old embassy walls of the Statue of Liberty looking like the grim reaper.
Those bastards, let's nuke 'em.
3) Funding of terrorists groups
Cut off all financial ties and freeze all assets of Iranian companies.
4) Importing of weapons that kill our soldiers.
Didn't the US arm Saddam to kill Iranian soldiers?
5) "war rhetoric"..."Death to America"
Bush speaks of WWIII and turning Iran to glass. He says the same thing, but, for once, more eloquently.
Just to name a few.........

Agreed, we are much too worried about political correctness these days. I'm in for a little chanting, but I much prefer..."Iran Sucks".
Where are these people in Iran? DO NOT even try to convince me that the ENTIRE country is of this sentiment.
Iran is not exactly a free society. It would be nice to see some of the moderate Muslims get some face time on al-Jazzera, but moderation does not equal ratings.

The Iraq War was also a state sponsored event and it has killed many more then an assembly of Iranians chanting "Death To America".
BTW, I am not a lefty. I'm a Reagan Republican, that is anti-Neo-Con.

It's not just Iran exporting hatred. Dialogue with our enemies is much more important than with our allies.

Do you recall the dialogue that Reagan used on Libya?
Libya - United States
Not really much difference.......do ya really think that he would have allowed a nuclear Libya?

I think you need to wake up, Iran is just one of many countries that hate America. You play right into the hands of the Bush administration and all the crap they spew.
Iran is not a threat to America, their missiles can't even touch us. Let Israel deal with them on their own, and until we actually have evidence Iran is making a nuclear bomb this is all just war propaganda. I think some people are just smoking way too much bud because they can't even remember the lies told right before we went into Iraq. It's fucking deja vu!

The differance was that it was actual Libyan Government Agents that planted the bomb. I agree with the airstrike in retaliation because it was proven to be Libyan agents killing Americans in a terrorist act.
"United States-Libyan tensions erupted in April 1986. On April 5, Libyan agents planted a bomb in a Berlin nightclub frequented by United States service personnel. The explosion killed 2 people, 1 an American serviceman, and injured 204 others. In retaliation, on April 15, the United States launched air strikes on Tripoli and Benghazi."
I don't believe a nuclear Libya would have been allowed by ISREAL. The Isreali's knocked out Iraq's nuclear program and would have done the same to Libya. This is the basic contention that I have with today's US foreign policy...Why is the USA responsible for policing the Mid-East? The majority of the countries in the region don't want a nuclear Iran any more then the US and Isreal. A nuclear Iran is much more of a threat to them in the near future then they are to America. These countries make money hand-over-fist in oil and buy American and Soviet weapons. It's high time that the Saudis, Egypt, Turkey, and Jordan take care of business in their own backyard.
