I heard in Jackie Brown that it does-
and I know sometimes if I cough a lot after taking a hit I get light-headed, but I think its just lack of oxygen or something.
i always feel higher when i go into a coughing spell, more so then when i dont
So what happens after a nice coughing spell is you do indeed FEEL higher but in fact what has happened is because of all your coughing your brain has been devoid of its usual amount of oxygen. So you feel higher due to the lack of oxygen in your brain and by the time your brain gets its normal amount of oxygen and that feeling goes away the marijuana kicks in and it feels to you like one big amazing high. So I guess you could say it makes you feel higher, but does not actually make you higher.
I think it's positive reinforcement:
1. When you smoke a lot you get very high
2. When you cough you've smoked a lot
Your brain associates 1 and 2 and thinks that if you cough you get very high, even if you cough for another reason. And getting high is a lot mental. If you think you're gonna get destroyed, you'll get higher.
if you take a huge hit you are more likely to cough, at least for me.
i dont think you get any higher, its all mental. just perform an experiment, divide out 2 equal amounts of pot. smoke one normally. take down how high you get.then when you come back down smoke the next amount and caugh your ass off and see if your any higher.
i know there will be no difference in high, other then your eyes will be redder
Oh HELL yeah, man. I don't really cough that much anymore, but if I do there better be a chair and a glass of water. I hate standing with dry mouth. :stoned::mad:
It's just because you aren't giving your brain oxygen because of the coughing. It's the same as holding in the smoke for forever, doesn't get you higher just more light headed.

after coughing though you clear your throat which allows you to take a bigger toke next. Rather than having your throat blocked and coughing again midway hit.
I don't think it's true. I don't think you need to cough to get high, you need to inhale thc. If you cough in the process then so be it.
Agree 100%. Usually when you take monster hits, you cough. Usually when you take monster hits, you get very high. Your brain correlates it to thinking you get higher.Quote:

yup it does work, its all about pressure of blood. when coughing, ur blood is going up to ur brain.

I impulsively reject the placebo effect, so I don't believe in that "if you cough you get higher", because I don't see the logic behind it.
I believe as long as the smoke has gone in your lungs, there's THC somewhere in you and you're higher than a sober person is.
you dont have to see logic behind a placebo. If someone THINKS they are gonna get higher because of the fact that they just died coughing thats all they need, and we all know thoughts aren't always logical :-p.

It's not rocket science, when you cough(especially after you've been smoking a while, or even better, on a daily basis) it means you took a hugeee ass hit.

Well a lot of ppl I've talked to about this subject say it is actually due to the physicality of your body. They say that when you cough, you open up unexposed parts of your lungs--those unexposed, and probably healthier, parts of your lungs will absorb any smoke or THC that has as of yet been unabsorbed, and will, in essence, get you higher.
