First LOG 1000W flood and drain

first indoor grow with 1000 watter just want some feed back on my setup and plants.

I am running
4x4x8 room covered in poly white
diamond 1000 watt metal halide bulb and ballast 18 on 6 off
200 cfm inline fan with carbon filter
water farm hydro ebb and flow set up w hydroton
oscillating fan

nutrients
7 gallon res with a base tds of 38 (fresh spring water)
1/4 tsp per gallon of foxfarm growbig and super thrive
ph level at 5.6-5.8

my light cycle is 18 on 6 off

my water cycle as of now it 4 times daily, when light comes on, middle of light on, and right before it shuts off. the pump fills the tray in 15-20 min cycle

They are around 12 days into the grow room with the 1000w the light is about 4 feet above the plants, when do i lower the light, how much do i lower it and is 4, 30 min feedings 1/4 tsp foxfarm grow big a day ok as of now?

Do the containers need to be completely filled with hydroton? Or can you use net buckets on top to have roots hanging in the air?

IMO I think you have too many plants in that area.... you'll find smaller bud production and a crowded room.... I tried to grow 17 in a 4X5 area and ran into the same problems...

looks very precise and clean....i think either way, crowded or not, taht set up will produce some amazing buds

1000w is a little out of my range of experience but 4 ft away seems awfully far. So, since no one has answered your questions....You should be able to lower the light to 30-36 inches (and progressively lower, as close as 20 inches or so, later in veg) AS LONG AS you can keep the ambient temperature below 80 degrees. You need to move your thermometer so it reads at plant/canopy level. As for the feedings...if they've taken 30 min feedings for a few days and aren't showing any signs of overwatering, I'd say you're good, but 15 mins should be enough for those little plants. (My plants, in full bloom, are on half hour feedings, any longer and they droop.)

Also, if you can get that kink out of your exhaust ducting, the airflow will increase by 30-40%, which will have the obviously positive effects. And I can't tell if there is a lens on the light or not but its something to consider if you have temperature problems.

I also started my plants out in the same pots that you did and mine were clogged up and rootbound within 5 weeks from seed under a 400w hps. As soon as you weed out...*cough*.... the males, you might want to look into getting bigger pots to avoid complications.

Is that your highest temps (mid 80s?) ? You may need to add more ventilation. I would keep your best 8 plants and give them room to grow....1K with some TLC will produce some monster plants....I grow 6 in a 4X4 area with a 600 watter and its a good fit.

Your roots cant be suspended in the air unless they are kept moist....dry roots die.

and added 1 full tsp fox grow big per gal in a 7 gal res
tds is at 230-300 with nuts and ph up and down

Put the light as close to the plants as possible with out it burning them. It looks like you have an air cooled hood so you should be able to get them pretty close. A suggestion I have for you is to invest in t8 lights they are $10 for a 2 bulb setup at wal-mart. you can put that right on the plants, I mean that literally. This will also save you a shit load of money on your electric bill too.

I hope you're not suggesting that he stop using his 1000w light and use flourescents because you can put them up close... Maybe for a week or two, let those babies grow a LITTLE. But I doubt the fl's would out perform a 1000w mh light in light intensity, regardless of the distance.

Using a 1000w light during veg is a complete waste of money. I grow a continuous garden harvesting every 8-9 weeks I use (4) four foot t8s to veg from clone/seedling till its time to flower at which point they get a 1000w hps. I too thought that using t8s or t5s was a ridiculous idea and a waste of money(at the time these systems were a lot more expensive than they are now). I chanced upon a a bunch of free t8 ballasts and said "what the hell I'll try it out". Not only did they grow about the same amount but the inter nodal spacing was a lot better and I didn't have any heat issues, oh yeah and my electric bill was about $64 cheaper. You can see the results for yourself I justed started a grow log the link is in my signature.:)

edit: Your correct about the difference in light intensity but this is only really needed in 12/12.

fixed the inline fan up so it blows directly out hence kinks out

Did you place your plants directly in your E&F system without much root showing through the rapid rooters? (I am assuming you used rapid rooters)

Or did you wait until roots popped out of the rapid rooter..

How much do you flood the containers? 50%?

50% and waited for the roots to grow

how long were the roots popping out of the rapid rooter? i.e.
were your roots touching the water from the E&F the very first time you put it in your system?
or do you figure it took awhile for the roots to grow down to touch the E&F water?

hit the water as soon as i put them in on 1/4 nut but i upped it to 1/2 nut now

what is the highest temp they can stand at plant level im in the low 80s with the MH bulb with a inline and to reg fans

Low 80's is fine anything over 95 can result in death, the key word being can, its not always the case. I try to keep mine somewhere between 62 and 76 with no more than a 10 degree difference from light to dark.

ordered the 940 HPS conversion bulb, clonex, liquid karma, bigger pots, 50 rapid rooters
i am new to clone but i want to go SOG style and this was all started from seeds so i will need a little help from yall. how many clones do you think i could take per plant and when?
how am i doing thus far any look fem to you guys?

if you plan on cloning in a large number, you might want to wait these seedlings out until they preflower on 18/6. This will give you the best option for the mother, pick the one that you think looks the best and keep her in veg. You'll have to get another space to keep her and the clones while your current grow finishes.

The amount of clones you can take depends on the size/health/strain of the mother. 20 or 30 from a decent size plant for sure. By that time, the prospective mother (that you're already growing) will be 2 or 3 times the size that it is right now.

I'm in the same kind of process that you are, trying to set myself up for a 60 plant SOG. I started 8 seeds, 4 turned out female and I cloned the best one as soon as it showed sex, about 6 weeks from germination. She turned out to be a great choice but I wish I would have just kept her as the original mother. There are plenty more options for you, this is just my suggestion. I hope you find one that works for you.
