Republicans Object To Stark Comments On War
(The Politico) House Republicans objected today to comments made by outspoken liberal Democratic Rep. Pete Stark of California on the Iraq war during debate on the override of President Bush's veto of the children's health program.
Speaking on the House floor, Stark said, "Under the Republican plan, by
2017, we probably will have killed 20,000 soldiers in Iraq, spending
$200 billion."
Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) rose to protest the remark and asked that Stark's words be taken down, a formal procedure to punish a member of Congress for breaching the House's standards of decorum.
The chair later ruled that Stark's comment did not refer to any specific House member and thus were appropriate.
Earlier in the SCHIP debate, Stark had made other spirited remarks.
â??You don't have money to fund the war or children,'' he said. "But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement."

Howdy Psycho4Bud,
Thanx for posting this..it just goes to show that the democrats really have no business handling America's national security.
Those of us who still love America and believe in our values and are prepared to defend such, really do need to stock up on ammo and weapons and food and water, while we still can.
Have a good one !

Sometimes I think some of these posts are just to see what kind of rise one can get from the others! Even in a state of confusion I could not see, or even understand how we could have money to continue to finance this war, or any other programs that suck up billions of dollars. And for those who still think this war is about terrorism please wake up. It has been admitted by politicians, and professionals from all over that this war is over controlling the oil that is in the middle east. America sucks up most of the resources in the world there is no way one could even still think that this war is to fight terrorism. Even if we were to go into a war with Iran it wouldn't be over anything except us not letting them control the oil in the middle east!

If this oil theory is right then why are countries such as China and Russia in negotiations with the Iraqi government for oil contracts in different provinces?

Republicans Object To Stark Comments On War
Because our country is in a economical crisis. What is the number 1 resource in the world? Oil! If we control oil then we control who and how much countries spend and buy. Our government does not want anything but American dollars paying for oil! Why do you think Saddam was taken out? Why do you think Mohammad Mosaddeq was taken out of power?

i think there would be people like you, who support the selling out of American sovereignty, a North American Union, a domestic big brother police state, no property rights, taking away rights as some way of protection from "terrorists," endless big government and an endless printing of fiat money to pay for it while ignoring the history and effects that has on a country, etc...
and those who support the constitution and individual freedom.

The same reason Russia has regained some of it's former power, the discovery of gas and oil has made them a major supplier.
When they threatened to cut off that supply there was widespread panic throughout Europe.

Anyway. What good is the War in Iraq doing? And don't say "to kill terrorists" - we all know that is not why our soldiers are in Iraq.

IF bans/infractions were issued for this matter your referring to most of the left wing would be out of here due to comments and pics about the right being facist, etc......get over it, there's meds for your "depression".

Howdy mfqr,
You ask: "LOL, you and your propaganda pictures.
Anyway. What good is the War in Iraq doing? And don't say "to kill terrorists" - we all know that is not why our soldiers are in Iraq."
The 'good' is that we're steering muslims away from islamofascism and towards freedom and equality ,for all.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Despite claims by some critics that the Bush administration invaded Iraq to take control of its oil, the first contracts with major oil firms from Iraq's new government are likely to go not to U.S. companies, but rather to companies from China, India, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
While Iraqi lawmakers struggle to pass an agreement on exactly who will award the contracts and how the revenue will be shared, experts say a draft version that passed the cabinet earlier this year will likely uphold agreements previously signed by those countries under Saddam Hussein's government.
"The Chinese could announce something within the next few months" if all goes well with the oil law, said James Placke, a senior associate at Cambridge Energy Research Associates who specializes in the Middle East.
Behind high oil and gas prices
The Asian firms are at an advantage for several reasons.
First, less constrained by Western sanctions during the Hussein regime, they've been operating in Iraq and know the country's oilfields, said Falah Aljibury, an energy analyst who has advised several Iraqi oil ministers as well as other OPEC nations.
Aljibury said the first contracts likely awarded will be to the Chinese in the south central part of Iraq, the Vietnamese in the south, the Indians along the Kuwaiti border, and the Indonesians in the western desert.
Why Asian oil firms are likely to be first at Iraqi's oil - Apr. 5, 2007
This isn't to mention the oil contracts with countries such as Canada, Turkey, and Denmark to name a few.........but hey, it was all about the U.S. stripping them of their oil. LOL

This is speculation. There is no solid proof of these contracts. Even if the contracts did go to the countries that are in this report what currency do you think Iraq would be excepting?

On April 17 the US Agency for International Development (USAID) awarded a contract worth $680 million to Bechtel Corp., a private company with close ties to the Republican Party and the Bush administration.
The outcome of a secretive bidding process open only to a select group of American corporations, the contract is the latest and largest in a series of windfalls for corporate America following the overthrow of the Saddam Hussein regime.
The areas covered by the contract include the rehabilitation of Iraqâ??s power, water and sewage systems that were destroyed in the bombing campaign, rehabilitation of airports, and the dredging of the Umm Qasr port. Bechtelâ??s future work in the country will also likely include repair and reconstruction of hospitals, schools, government buildings and irrigation and transportation systems.
And then America is going to hand it all over to the Iraqis of course  .Only a blind man can't see the links.

I think it's quite possible that Iraq is simply a strategic blunder. I mean if the war went how a lot of us thought it would, I'd be all for it. Charge in and topple Saddam's government, free millions of people from tyrany, establish a middle-eastern ally, get the oil contracts to western allies, and George gets to go down in history as the president who brought freedom to the people of Iraq!
We're entering a new era with a new type of war, one where toppling a government doesn't mean winning a war any more. WW1 had poor strategic ideas like charging the German trenches over the plaines, just as wars were fought before the 20th century. I think the Iraq invasion once again had the military psyche stuck in the past, thinking all they had to do was smack down a government and the war is over. And once again, we've learned the hard way that tactics have to change.

Your defense of "well that happened earlier" really doesn't wash does it ?

Actually it does wash........when the Coalition Provisional Authority was in charge, the time frame your referring to, it was up to the U.S. to assign the contracts. Now if a person was corrupt, such as the Major your posted about, they should be prosecuted like he was.
"Past defines the future", it's the Iraqi Government that sets up contracts now.......not much to do with us or you wouldn't see deals with Iran, China, etc...taking place.
