my shrink wants me to give up weed

:rolleyes: ive smoked weed for 10 years with no problems (well maybe a little paronoia)but due to some shit in my life i had a bit of a breakdown and ended up pretty suicidel i dont feel like that now but my shrink tells me that weed is causing all pyciatric (cant spell ) problems and that it will affect the medication i take. I really dont want to give up smoking its a big part of my life and one of the only things i really enjoy. Anyone know if my shrink is right or should i see another shrink who doesnt seem to be against smoking weed.

Iv found weed to affect pills. Once I had 2 cold and flu tablets and some cones and was off my face. He might b worried of the negative side affects (eg u getvery wasted of which he'd think was negative being a shrink). I'd say smoke them anyway. This may not b very good advice but its an opinion from some1 who isnt all sane

Marijuana typically doesn't interfere with medication (even most psych meds).. However you might want to try your doc's advice to a point.. smoke a little less? See if it effects your sleep, mood, etc.. if it does, Mary may not be for you.. otherwise fuck your shrink and smoke somoe herb. My Girlfriend's a psych major.. she always tells me her professors say weed can't hurt you psychologically... so..

The psychiatrist said the same to me.
Did i give up ? hmmmm NO.
I do ok on it but when on medication i was affected bad like as soon as i hit a bong i would fall asleep if it was any later than afternoon but after a few mths i could handle it better and i never gave up the whole time i was on medication i was ok.

I was on something for people with parkinsons called zyprexa/olanzapine cause it sorted my brain out from psychosis.I think the ones that interfere with your brain and make you think and function differently are the type that will be effected by pot.

friend of mine takes zyprexa and a shitload of other pills. He is skitzo. Smokes everyday.

Don't cut down because of depression.. man.. if anything smoke more. I wish I woulda had more weed last weekend, it woulda saved me going to jail. You might try dropping either the mood stabilizer or the anti-depressant, depending on whether it's depression or mood-swings that you're going through. I've been on a ton of shit ((bi-polar)) and personally I feel they work much better individually.

Thats true u are not supposed to be on 2 types at once.When i was psychotic i got depressed severely too they did not want to give me anti-depressants as they said with the zyprexa it would just be pointless until i was off my zyprexa they just would not work because they are for 2 different opposite problems.The thing is that these pills take around a month to start working effectively.I had to go to the doc lately to tell her my problems and she said she was giving me a script for 10mg xyprexa and i started crying because i would rather be dead than be on them.She didnt make me have them after that because i told her what they do to me so she gave me a referral to my psychiatrist so i will go there and see what they say.Im not taking them pills no more even if they put me in a psychiatric hospital.

If you ever feel depresses it's usually because the truth is seeping through your mental barrier (that truth being that you and I have absolutly no purpose exept to waste oxygen and pollute) and you just need to chill and forget 'reality' for a bit, at least thats what I think.

Shrinks vary in skill level and personability. Any shrink who blames marijuana for your problem is obviously lazy, taking a short-cut and not doing their job properly.

I been to 4 shrinks. All of them were goddamn lazy, because the problems they diagnosed me with aren't even the problems I have!

Some like zoloft apparently a few poeple commit suicide while on them.
Another bad one is efexor-xr they can make u go scatty they are both anti depressants.Some people have to be on them all there life to function normally.You just need to find the right one for you and if none help it may be something diff u have.I was diagnosed with depression at about 17 or 18 then when 20 they said i had manic depresion and then again it was depression again all diff doctors.Then finally i was hospitalised with psychosis and while in there was propereley diagnosed after a few weeks with having bipolar effective disorder.

thanks my brother swears by st.johns wort ive tried relaxation techniqes but they didnt work.Exercise could be the key i dont do any really so ill give it a go ta nullific.

Since when do doctors look out for the best interest of their patients?
If they truly cared they should have tried recommending a change in diet, exercise and meditation techniques and even herbal remedies mentioned above before putting somebody on these addictive, potentially dangerous anti-depressants that the pharmaceutical companies are quick to create and market without proper research.
Even a low dose of hydrocodone or oxycodone could help to improve your mood and have lower side effects. I don't know about benzodiazepines, using for a couple consecutive weeks could present a problem since people say after repeated use they stop working and require a ridiculously high dose or switching to another benzo.

Stay away from benzodiazepines thats what my GP put me on first they did nothing for my mood and are highly addictive they really fucked me up and the GP just kept prescribing more and more while i was on a huge NHS waiting list they are a nasty drug and very difficult to get off.

I agree with EPIC on this one. Doctors DO look out for you, what everyone else says is BS, take it with salt. Are they on meds? Then they don't know. Maybe there friend or sister's friend is. If so....then shut your holes.
I've taken a few different pills till i found one that works (sort of). There is no pill out there that makes everything perfect. Don't think there is one and don't believe it if THEY say there is one. Doctors and Shrinks don't have any idea what the human mind is all about. They play around a bit with it. That's it! Just find one that works for you. The human body has over 2000 different chemicals that god put in there to make you function, no telling what adding one more (including THC) to the mix might do to you or the next person, we are all a bit different and unique. I know my sister is on meds and weed messes it all up. She can't smoke or she thinks M&M or BAM Magera is coming to marry her. No joke.
Listen up, if you think it might help, listen to the dip shit Doc. You know he did go to school for a bit and does do some more reading then you and i put together. It can't hurt right? I think you can give up the green for awhile just to see if it helps. If you can't i think you should give it up for a bit just to keep yourself in check. You know, just to keep yourself in check. We all need to be in control of our own bodyies. The green is GOOD but so is being the boss of your body. You need to be in control not the herb. One body...one mind. You need to control the temple.
Anyway, the meds help with the voices and the bad thoughts. I hope you just find something that works for YOU. It might take a few tries and each "try" might take up too 4 weeks to feel a result. So don't give up. But at least try. It is worth it, i promise. It's not easy but it is easyier. -Link

i have taken a few meds for depression and none of them seem to work well enough to make up for the shitty feeling they gave me.
this thing called "synergy" its the effect you get when you mix 2 drugs
any 2 drugs and it varys from person to person and drug to drug.
its almost impossible for your doctor to say that the synergy YOU get from mixing your meds and weed is messing you up. while at the same time he cant say its helping either.

the only one who can decide that is YOU because YOUR the one who feels it.

i say you should explain that to your doctor
and work with him some, quit for a week or to so you can honestly tell him if mixing the weed has any bad effect on you with those meds.

and you might want to try other meds if your doctor is any good he should change your meds for you but dont belive that b.s. about "you need to take these for a few months to get the full efect" they are told that by the drug companys because the drug companys want you to buy the pills for at least a few months

I think anti depressants are handed out way too readily by many docs. Start taking care of yourself, eat regularly and well, exercise, try to establish a good sleep pattern. And if at all possible, find yourself a good meditation teacher and set aside some time everyday to just meditate.

Do yourself a favour tho, seriously, try to get off those pills. OH, and find a new therapist - your one sounds like an arse. I hope things get better soon xx

I took prozac as a late teen. It was the only SSRI that didn't give me headaches or work reversly. I went through Efexor zolof and this one other thing I forgot..... thats all the prescription medication I have ever takin for more than one week.
I got amphetamines when I broke my leg for 5 days.....

Everyone I've spoken to has told me that weed actually helps more than it hinders. The weird thing is that a lot of anti-depressants are actually depressants. An example is my girlfriend's mom who takes anti-depressants, drinks, and ends up screaming and throwing stuff at people.

I'd do what you have to do, if you think weed is hurting you somehow then stop, its not a big deal to stop every once in a while. On the other hand if it isn't hurting you then my advice would be to tell your psychiatrist he's barking up the wrong tree.

I also recommend firing the shrink. Dr.'s are lazy as fuck and don't want to look hard to find a solution for you. My Dr's used to blame every problem I had on being fat. (back when I was) Then I went to a female dr. who actually cured me of chronic ear infections and the other stuff that was going on because of my weight.
I went to a psychiatrist who told me bdsm was the root of all my problems and that I should stop participating in all forms of it immediately or my situation could get dire. (fired him) Got a new psych who prescribed me new meds and laughed when I told her what the previous doc had said.

you have to shop for doctors, find one who thinks like you, find one who will work harder to find out what's wrong with you. you deserve to be treated like an individual.

I toke, and I am fly. your doctor doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.

what you need to do is take the meds and smoke pot and when he says he is happy with your mental improvement you can throw it in his face and say "hey, you, bullshitter, ive been smoking the entire time and ive regained mental health, go back to school dumbass"

as long as your not psychotic, smoke the herb, ditch the pills. Herb is natures medicine and its alot safer for you too.

The irony is most "mind influencing" medications do poorly when compared to placebo's (sugar pills) positive thinking means more than anything. No matter how much you have to force yourself to think positive its going to do more for you than any pill...

And, as nullific pointed out the majority are inherently dangerous and not even proven helpful but that doesnt bother the FDA no sirree.....And, dont get me started on doctors who prescribe things that companies give them for free.....Here's a good clue if your doctor(any type) actually cares about his patients. He'll have up to date studies littered around his office. He/she will also double check and recheck findings or diagnosis on the suspicion he or she might be wrong ;). I've only found one doctor so far that meets this criteria but im sure there is plenty out there. Good luck.
