Busted on campus...advice?

I go to school in ohio and recently got busted with possession and paraphernalia. it happened in the dorm, and i was wondering if anyone here had any advice/experience with this. I think with any drug charges you loose your lisence for 6 months - 5 years. the police were actually pretty cool to me, and said something about a diversion program where all i would get is a disorderly conduct charge. does anyone know the penalty if i can do that? what are my chances of being offered that program (its a first time offense). My lisence was suspended already but the suspension is over, i just havent gotten it back yet, will it get re-suspended? theres also free legal services on campus i scheduled an appointment there , i have court on thursday. any advice/info would be appretiated, thx!

Go in there and just listen to what the judge has to say, come to an agreement, its your first offense, you will probably be put on some kind of probation thorough your school and through the state, but its not a driving offense so they cant take your licence away. They will give you options and such, it will be a big expense though, for tickets and then the diversion. best of luck to you!!!!!

I agree with the post above me, they can take away your drivers license with a non auto related incident so all clear on that front. I do however have a few reservations about said council, if you go to him their will be no; I repeat no privileged information. If your school decides to try and get you kicked out your attorney will be their leading the charge with any and all information you tell him. If its a service the university provides then that where his loyalties lye.

Try to find a treatment program and avoid the whole damn ticket. I'd do this myself for lawyers are notorious for not doing it so be forewarned.

so you dont think i should go to the student legal services? They told me i wont get kicked outta school for it, but im not really sure what to do. from what ive been told the diversion program seems to be my best bet, but i would like to talk to someone about my options because i dont have any expirence with this kinda stuff, and i dont want to go to my parents.

Do the studnet legal services, for the heck of it write a letter of apology to the dean of the school and the person who found you, show that you are determined to stay in school and your serious about it, show them your an adult . . . .that should help. like i said before your probably just fine, how much did you have on you?

Good advice..a letter of apology would be a nice touch..with a brief explanation of the charge...shit, it cant hurt. Plus, make a copy for yourself/

i had about an 8th, i talked to the residence hall director and she said it would be a good idea to write a letter and show im serious about school, but i have to meet with the judicial affairs sometime and theyll decide what to do with me. Well i go to court tomarrow and then to judicial affairs, so we'll see how it goes. thanks for the help ill let yall know how it goes.

yes, actually they can... 1 joint in your own home = no license for 1 year in some states

Also keep in mind that with a diversion program or probation you are going to have to agree to random drug testing.

went to court this morning...got the diversion program with 16 hrs of community service. i consider myself lucky as they said theyll get rid of the disorderly conduct from my record after 1 year. But i still dont know what the schools going to do, the lawyer said probably probation but they havent contacted me yet....

At UMass, the police came to my dorm a couple of times (due to the smell of smoke) and confiscated stuff, but never wrote me up or arrested me. Better things to do than bust students smoking weed.
