BIO BUCKETS
Im running a bio-bucket system which is in essence a modified Recirculating DWC bucket system. Bio buckets attempt to put beneficial bacteria at work so you don't have to as much. I used tap water to fill the system and ran it for 2 days then I added the plants and beneficial bacteria (SubCulture from GH).
The SubCulture isn't needed from what I have heard but I figured it would speed the process. I have read some negative things about subculture but it didn't make sense to me so im making my own evaluation and so far so good.
Heres a couple pics of my setup and the clones. The water is active with bacteria evident by some foam and a fresh yeasty smell. They have lava rock in 8" netpots to colonize and establish a protective root zone that will have added health benefits.
Im attempting to go without changing the res out the entire grow, I will add fresh water as needed and re-up nutes as needed attempting to keep control of the salt levels. PH should be kept in check by the B.Bs after my initial dose of PH down.
Temps aren't an issue this time around since its nice and cool now...I have ran in the mid 70s on occasion though, im sure I have a couple light leaks but not many at all. With the combination of B.B, recirculation, and mucho air I hope to not have to deal with hydro nasties....I have a terrible taste in my mouth from the dreaded brown algae...that stuff is not joke. I had to replant in soil.
Heres some pics same 2 pics 1 week apart...you can tell which is a little bigger...they are labeled incorrectly.

Oh and anyone with bio filter or GH Subculture experience please chime in. What can I expect from subculture as far as smells visuals ect....will I get crap on my roots thats good that needs to be left alone?
-
Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
That shit funked up my whole 70 gallon res, had to dump it. It got all cloudy and frothy within 12 hours, HATED IT. Advanced nutrients pirahna powder is the same buggies without the funked up crap. I dont use any of it anymore, I just keep my system sterile 24/7
-
Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
I think its supposed to, my res cleared up within a few days and the roots are exploding.
-
Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
Got some new pics...3 days from the start of week 3. Everything is going good...plants look healthy and res is good. The bio makes it smell like a fish tank but everything looks clear.
-
Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
Here we are at week 3 doing fine...great short tight growth. I hear GDP is 90% indica.
-
Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
Ok time to go 12/12 here are some pics...also got a few in coco as well, I rescued them from a bad hydro setup they are getting big.

The clones where given to me few weeks ago when i was in cali. Right now my wife is helping me out Im still rehabing from a car wreck that happened earlier this year. Ill post pics of them soon as I can get a chance. Im using them as moms for now so flowering pics will be a while. The reason I wanted it was because you cant get it where Im at oklahoma and when I smoked it for the first time with my kin folks I was blown away so I had to have it.:rasta::rastasmoke::pimp:

Here we are at week 1 flower...looked hungry so I upped the PPMs to 1400 and raised the light some.
What causes upside down canoe leaves? Seems like it was heat.

Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
Heres some more...seem to be on track roots are looking good.

 Looks good. I can't wait to see how these ladies finish up.
-
Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
Also I havent changed the res once yet.....Bio is great
-
Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
So let me get this straight! Bio Buckets means that i dont ever have to change the rez and i'll still end up with huge white roots and dank bud?! There has to be some flaw in this method, if not then why am i not doing it and why isnt more people doing this? It sounds so damn awesome and looks it as well!
-
Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
Also how long total did you veg?
-
Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
Veg for 4 weeks.....GDP is a real slow grower.
The only maintenance I do is 2-3X a week I drain off 4 gal of nutes and replace with RO water. I add the nutes back in as I see fit with the PPM levels and all.
I do this to get rid of any salt build up and to re balance the nute mix....I guess some may consider it a res change I just consider it add backs though.
The B.B guard my root zone against hydro nasties and convert plant waste to usable nutes...my res gets some light in it and I haven't had a single algae problem, again BB and recirculating buckets with plenty of O2 provides this.

Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
nice grow man, that bio stuff definately sounds interesting. cant wait to see how your girlies turn out

Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
Well a big thanks to all my supporters. I feel like most of what I post is a waste of time and is unappreciated so im outta here:thumbsup:
Follow till finish at growreport if you want....last pic week 5

hahahahaha I swear stoners aren't suppose to be drama queens.
Life moves on....and on.
-
Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
No drama here...the amount of response and attention hasn't been enough to warrant me posting in 2 threads, ill post final weight and pics. Its soon. I don't get bothered easy but if I feel its not worth my effort I wont do it.
Opie....your far to overly kind to offend anyone.
-
Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
I try to be kind until someone gives me a reason not to. I didn't realize that I was being overly kind though. Do you think it's too much? Should I back it off a touch?
-
Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
Yea....but thats just my opinion. I just don't think people should be spoon fed information, a little research on their part will help it mean more and sink in.....absolutely nothing wrong with guidance and information sharing, thats why we are here after all.
I just can't stand stupid and or lazy people....your doing a great service just so you know heres a little rep for ya.
-
Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
I agree with you on that Cyclonite that people should stop being lazy and look up shit their own self before blurting out a question that was answered a few hours before. Unfortunately, there are more people who want a personal response to their question then there are people who would rather spend some time and look it up. We can't change that shit, thats who they are.
BUT, if absolutely NO one "spoon" fed information to the masses, there would be NO information. The internet is, "spoon" fed information. I appreciate every grow log because it allows noobs to observe and learn. Most of the grow section is most likely on the site to educate, which is "spoon" feeding to a certain extent.
BUT, a lot of people would rather spoon feed information and make good, well informed, new growers out there instead of people doing it the wrong way. Good information now, will most likely lead to less problems (thus less noobs asking questions) in the future in their grow. I appreciate all those experienced growers out there giving out information at their will. That earns my respect.
Why post your grows, and pictures of your success if its not to "spoon" feed the noobs? I have a grow going right now which I plan on making a log of, JUST to reward those who have helped me. Those spoon feeding peoples, helped me. Because without the info on this site and answers to questions, I wouldn't know what I know now. THANKS TO ALL!!!!! Even you Cy!
So, that being said, you wanna hit this LR2 with me? I know you do!! :stoned::stoned::stoned:
-
Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
The grow logs are there to put out good information, now if people took the time to go through just a few almost all questions would be answered.
My definition of spoon feeding is answering questions that could be answered by reading a few logs.....ie PH temps humidity and amounts of nutes to use (more so with GH and ones with tons of info available.) Passing on useful information and posting grow logs isnt spoon feeding IMO...but answering questions that can easily be answered with a few minutes of research is.
Got a link for the LR2....is that a huge improvement over LR, I know its supposed to be.
-
Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
Much better taste and more potent. Growing wise, it yields more and grows taller, BUT the original LR could be grown much taller than people usually grew it and yielded more than people usually yielded if they were in bigger pots and treated right, like you would want to be treated.....
So we better be smoking!!!!!
p.s. there ARE alot of people who are lazy.....Americans are known for that. Well, you and I must be the exception. Oh, and maybe Opie too.

Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
Thanks for the kind words guys. I see it both ways. I remember when I was a noob and not only could I sometimes not find the answers, but sometimes I didn't even know the right questions. I always tried to search first, going with grow FAQs first, the stickies second, and the search function third. Only after those efforts were depleted was it when I would post a possible stupid question. It was because of some very kind people that I am able to grow with success today. I like to spread a little of that around whenever I can.
On the other hand, I get a little tired of typing the same thing over and over, sometimes several times a day. Every now and then I'll just say something like "Search, damn it!" Like how to tell when to harvest, or the best color temp for bulbs in veg vs bud. I'm guessing these are the two biggest, and very easily found via a little searching.
And yeah, Americans are probably lazy. On the other hand they have the 3rd most screwed up work ethics as far as working too many hours, only behind Japan and China if I remember right. Theres some place that starts with an S, Switzerland, Sweden, I forget, but their average work week is 17 hours. Sounds good. I'd probably want to do that in the first day and take the rest of the week off. More time for weed naps.

Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
Oh yeah, I really want to try Lowryder2 sometime soon. I don't like the idea of not being able to clone it though.
-
Grand Daddy Purp 600Watt Bio-Buckets
I saw somewhere on these forums I believe, something about LR bring cloned, but only under certain conditions.
I wanna say, they kept the temperature of the roots at something like 55 degrees Fahrenheit to prolong the Veg stage, but it sounds like gibberish in my head so, I will do a quick or....maybe a long search for it in these forums, I'll let you know if I find it. Could be something I saw in my dreams last night, not sure.
