man do i feel like a fool. i had the money to go buy rubbing alcohal or 420 solution, but decided to save $, boil my glass and come on here for a few tips.

well if it can get fucked up, broken or lost then im your man. i put my glass stem in a huge pot of boiling water. turned on some eagles and smoked up. i remember thinking, 'damn its hot' and we keep it cold as fuck.

so i went into the kitchen to find the stove on HI with no water. the bottom of the pan was bright red hot. i was like 'shit man.' even though i knew better from steak plates, i threw a huge ass glass of cold water on the inferno. the bowl/stem actually EXPLODED. i had a few shards of glass cut me and one real close to my eye.

that'd make a good anti-marijuana campaign. or maybe fire saftey lol

yea bro, i posted a similar horror story in another thread just today, actually. weird.

i was trying to clean my beautiful $60 change color glass, pyrex bowl with a trippy bug eyed salamander on top. i was using 420 cleaner, cleaning in my sink in bathroom. well after shaking it for a min, i washed the nasty cleaned out resin juice down drain with hot water, but instead it just fuckin got everywhere and stained the white sink in the bathroom as well as the counter. it would not come off with rubbing alcohol or bleach but smelled really bad. i just belched up the largest cloud of smoke i have ever seen. so then as i am trying to finish cleaning the bowl, it just breaks under regular hot sink water. then i sliced my thumb quite deeply on the broken glass, now dripping blood all over my bong-water smelling bathroom.

but bro, you will feel so much better, as now you get to go glass shopping and you can hot some dank in a brand new piece!

When boiling water goes down the stem of my bubbler if filters out the rezin, if you do it long enough and shake it, note it can get messy and sticky in the sink. That's how i clean my pipe, well and use cotton buds, take the cotton off and put the stick down the hole, usually clears the blockage. I feel for you but at least YOU didn't explode.

if you're gonna boil your peices you need to put them in the water while it reaches boiling, quick changes in tempature with glass is what increases risks of cracking.... and you definately shouldn't have thrown cold water on boiling hot glass.... you're lucky... i've worked with a propane torch and glass bottles trying to make a bong and i've had some pretty bad burns from the cooling (eventually i started getting far away from it while it cooled.... it's kinda hit or miss, most of the time it'll crack no matter what you do, sometimes it won't tho....) anyways, you're lucky it was only a stems worth of glass...

keep that in mind next time you're gonna boil your peice tho... put it in the water before you heat it up, and don't put even room tempature water on it (to rinse it) until the peice is at roughly the same tempature....

I just stick to rubbing alcohol, salt and q-tips. Safe for you and the bowl piece.

Temp swings and glass just don't get along well at all.
