Hey,
I've read about hefting the pot and measuring 4-5cm dry soil before watering, but what method do you use/recommend for knowing when to water?
Hoping to find some proper moisture measurer, but how about other methods?
Thanks:jointsmile:

feel the weight of the pots but that takes time.
im watering tonight
I also use the pot lift method. However, a better way is to use a moisture meter. I use mine daily to check out the girls. you can get them at any hardware store or garden center. About $10. Its also not such a bad idea to really stress the plants by just letting them dry out between waterings. Let the leaves go limp and then water them. It is interesting to watch how fast they plump back up again. The stress also causes the plant to want to reproduce more, since it thinks it is dying. In other words an increase in the resin that we all look for. Hope this helps. Dr. Bloor
when they need it. if they are dry, water deep then check in a couple of days. just my 2 cents..
The drying out method sounds pretty easy, but is there a risk for the plants dry out too much? I'll be having no extra heat in the growroom as I'll have envirolites, so is about once a week watering for 10 liter pot proper?Quote:

do you have any airation in the soil(rocks, perlite, vermiculite, ect)
as dr blood said also you can try the moisture meter too. i bought a meter that was moisture,ph,light and the moisture and light seem to work but dont trust the ph part
Yea, hoping to find some moisture meter, will make a lot easier... Soil is 60%, perlite 20%, vermiculite 20%.Quote:

They dont think they are dying at all, they are looking for water when they start to wilt, good resin production is achieved by letting your plants SLIGHTLY wilt , then watering.
i would say on average the pots need water about every 4-5 days. mine, that is but fans, plant size, how rootbound they are, and temps could affect this. i dont really keep a schedual.
Stick your finger into the soil to your 1st knuckle. Dry? water.
Or go by the weight of the container.
i dont trust my ph meter that much either....i have been checking the top 1.5 or so and water only whn dry. currently my leaves seem yellowish. possiblly because of my crappy ph meter which says my water is about 6.7
should you water until water comes out from the bottom of the pot? and do you water around the stem or the edges of the pot?
yes give um water till it drains pour kinda slow i usually water around the outside and middle of the pot not on the stem
This isn't a good method of knowing when to water, especially during flowering. You never want to cause undue stress to females during the flowering cycle, as some strains can turn a little stress into a lot of hermies. Perhaps on the very last days before harvest you might think about letting the soil get excessively dry, but I don't think it should ever be purposely done before that point. From my experience, waiting until the plant loses turgidity before watering slows growth down each time you it. It may not take long before the plant perks back up again, but that's time the plant could be using to photosynthesize... instead of just repairing itself and allocating the moisture back into the plant.Quote:

WORMIES!
They have them at Lowes for 97 cents.
Little ceramic worms with a trippy little eyes painted on that change color based on soil moisture.
