ok first off i had a mother or was gonna be one awhile back i switched to 12/12 to show sex so i could cut the males of the bunch and they showed and the 1 i kept the mother i switched it back to 18/6 well the ? is i looked at her today and she has alot of other growth around the white hairs/nodes is this normal?? or could it be a hermie? i'll try to get sum pics just wondering if it was normal since i had it in 12/12 then back to 18/6 and she was starting to flower.
and if it is a hermie can it be cloned back to a fem?? or will it always be a hermie?
A hermaphrodite plant will always pass on this genetic trait to their offspring, especially if you clone it because it is passing on identical genetics. Alot of time feminized seeds will hermie and so will shwag...
Only thing to do is see if she drops balls ( Pollen Sacs) and if so then I would yank it unless its KB becuase some feminized strains that are pretty good have hermie traits.

Be aware that palerider forced the hermi with the screwy lighting.....I think any plant might do the same given the lighting conditions they had. I personally wouldn't hold it against a plant to hermie if I mess around with the lighting....in fact I'd pretty much expect it to so I wouldn't write the plant off based on that. I'd write the plant off if it hermied for no good reason......but I personally think screwing around with the lighting like that is a and having the plant hermie in response is a pretty common thing.
well thats what i was told to do is switch it to 12/12 to show sex, as i tried to let my others go and after 9 weeks in veg still no show of sex. so i was told to go 12/12 to show, and also is it not a common method to go 12/12 to show sex as i see alot of people give that advice on here i myself would rather have not done it that way but i don't want to wait 9+ weeks to show sex either. and i did'nt write off the plant i said what i did and asked if that was the cause simple enough.
Not at all defensive are you palerider? First decide if the growth is pollen sacks or new veg growth....then decide where to go from there. I'm afraid it's all part of the game when you play around with the plant's enviroment.

palerider - When you switch the plant back to 18/6 it is going to re-veg; which means it is going to go through a metamorphisis during which it will get all sorts of strange growth that hardly even resembles an mj plant.
A hermie plant just grows balls, it doesn't drastically change its appearance. If your plant has strange looking growth, and if you have changed the lights to 18/6, most likely what you are seeing is the re-veg growth. If this is the case, it'll take about 2 weeks for the plant to complete the re-veg and get back to normal.

I don't switch to 12/12 to determine sex, as I have seen recommended in various sources ... I just wait it out, patience ... the ONE time I did switch back and forth between veg/flower/veg/flower for sexing, it caused weird mutants, resulting in one-leafed branches, from the light-stress ... (it was a 100% sativa, which I suspect , 'may' be more sensitive to light changes, just a theory) ... there's no replacement for patience, when growing plants ... :smokin:
Reaper is right I'm afaid....there's no real shortcuts and it is one of the chances you take. My point was that I wouldn't write the plant off for hermie-ing in response to a stress like that....I'd consider it a fairly normal response so I woudn't put a plant that hermies for that reason out of my stock......but if it hermied because it was Wednesday afternoon and it was just feeling manly I might think again.

this is true and i did wait it out on my others and it took 9 weeks and still did'nt show sex. so by that time the roots were matted together as there in the same res so i did'nt get to take a mother, and that was my whole point was to really get a mother going. so i planted 5 more and i tried the switch as i've read on here alot, some say it's the only way to go and others say it's the worst. so i was at a point where i needed a mother and btw i don't have much room as if i did i'd for sure do it the way i wanted to. but im in a 5x5 area and i blocked off a 1.5ft by 3ft area to make a mother in. but thats all the room i have right now. so im limted to what i can do unless i drop everything and just seek a mother. but i was trying to grow and get a mother if that makes any sense.Quote:

Personally I've been very happy with feminized seeds myself. X-Crispi turned me on to them and I have to say that KNOWING you have a female going in is the way to do it imo. Talk about saving time and space! I use Reverse on my plants so don't have a problem with hermies but I don't clone or anything else either so I really don't know whether you'd want to use it or not for your plants.....Stinky or somebody probably knows. :)
I do have some unsexed seeds that I want to germinate.....but honestly palerider since going with the X-seeds I'm having a VERY hard time making myself plant them. :wtf:

so whats the % u get using fem seeds is it 100% for sure every time gonna be a fem? and i have a gal of the dutch master Penetrator i got free from the dro store but it don't really say much other than it's for spraying them with it do u use reverse with this??or do u do 1 at a time?
I've had only females with the seeds I've used so I THINK they're a pretty sure thing....haven't had a male show up yet so for me 100% (so far....)
The penetrator generally isn't used by itself....you mix a small amount of it with your spray such as the Reverse when you spray it on the plants and it helps the plant absorb the solution better (so I am told.....) I use it because I was told to use it with the Reverse and when my hydro guy tells me to do something I do it...:D I understand that Penetrator is something you add to several different solutions to help the plant absorb things better....that's about all I know about it.
Not sure all this info will be really helpful for you PR as it sounds like you may already have a mother (hopefully) after all your work.....hope it's just veg growth and not hermie probs. :)
