I've got two questions (for Stinky)

first things first.. why is talk of legal drugs againts the rules.. wouldn't that class things like talk of painkillers is against the rules aswell. (i know this is a privately owned site so whatever the owner wants.. happens, but i was just wondering.

second question.(for stinky)
i know this will probably piss you off (im sorry). but why did you ban mr weed? i didn't like him myself but i didn't know you could get banned for being a hipocrit.<(sp?)

ps i know it seems like i answered my own question there but im wondering if that WAS why you banned him.

She has no reason to get mad, you're only trying to clear something up. I'm sure she will understand that.

Well I can answer number one. It's a fairly simple answer: this is CANNABIS.COM. Not "Cannabis/otherlegaldrugs.com." People come here for cannabis-related information, so that's what we give them.

As for why Mr. Weed, or anyone, was banned....

Well, it's not like these are out of the blue. We're not stupid. The dude had a long history of infractions, and as a whole, brought the site down while contributing almost nothing of worth. Believe you me, being hypocritical won't get you banned. I'll let stinky explain more if she wants, but that's my take on it...

I realize you people get curious as to why certain members are shown the exit, but you gotta trust us when we tell you it was for good reason. Questioning our judgment doesn't exactly put a smile on our faces, eh? :jointsmile:

Mr. Weed made a personal attack, for which he was infracted.
Then, he had the audacity to post an instruction manual for being polite on the boards.
At the time of his infraction, his user profile was masked by another mr.weed profile that was not case-sensitive, so his infraction history was not visible even to moderators.
Sundance then removed the problem, and allowed us to view his infraction history.
He had 2 previous issues, and the obvious course of action was to ban him. It was just good timing on his part to post that thread that was generally insulting to canncom as a whole.

In general I don't feel the need to explain myself but no, we don't ban people for hypocrisy, don't worry. That post was a bit tongue in cheek...

Sorry mate but I disagree. We all have the right to question, It makes us wiser. If someone who I liked was banned then I feel there is nothing wrong in me asking why. Some of the rules don't put a smile on my face but I suck it up and get on with it, I ask you to do the same. Don't let our questions get you down, there's no reason to :)

Not really. See you might like that person but it is their account and their confidentiality. Our responsibility is to the website, then that member. Most forums do not make it a habit to discuss bannings and there are many reasons from not wanting to cause resentments, rehashing the deleted subject matter, security concerns, exposing profile information only the mods have access to, etc. If someone was banned they are either banned because they asked to be or they broke a rule. It's that simple.

I don't know how knowing this is going to make you wiser. Some people don't like people all up in their business like a nosey neighbor. We are not here to humilate members either.

Would you like to go to the doctor for treatment of Aids, a sexually transmitted disease, pregnancy, impotence, etc and while you were walking out of the office have some guy come on over a loudspeaker and announce why you were there? I doubt it. Also see expungement.

I don't really know what to say to this. Other than I think you've gone of course with your reply. IAP said we shouldn't question their judgment because it makes them unhappy. If I want to ask a question there is nothing wrong in that. I wasn't defining it to asking about banned members (using it as an example), I mean anything. If I want to question the rules then I can. If I want to question some one's moderating then I can. Although I guess it should be done over PM's as opposed to threads. However we don't have PM's, plus the report feature is for serious offences. I'm not saying I should be able to request a members private information. But asking if a member was banned over an unfair grudge (I don't believe that's what it was Stinky, just an example), or rule breaking is hardly a breach of privacy. The OP wasn't even asking that. They didn't even ask about the member, rather questioning stinky's actions. So there you have it. That is what I'm saying.

By the way can I have Mr. Weeds date of birth, e mail, home address, and phone number? Thanks.

Well since you don't seem to understand how the website works regarding instant messaging or the forum rules on contact information, I really wouldn't expect you to understand the example I gave. I never said that your website confidentiality was as important as your medical records confidentiality. I merely gave it as an example yet you seem to want to read more into than I stated. Why bother asking if you aren't expecting a reply. To that I am saying you are not entitled to someone else's private infraction record. Ask them and not the mods and if the want to tell you then they will. Is that hard for you to understand?

If you don't understand a rule as in pertains to you then ask but why do you want to waste our time as to why someone was banned? Are you that nosey? Are you fascinated by gossip? Do you like to get into other people's personal business? Do you stare at car wrecks?

This is a privately owned website that charges you nothing to be a member. So while you are in this sandbox you should learn to play by the rules.

I find it even more funny how you still don't understand how the website works as far as contact info. Did I ever say post your email or phone number in a post? You only understand part of the rules, enough to be dangerous.

I've read through this discussion twice now, and I'm also calling in an objective member, my husband, to do the same thing. I don't see that FBR has lit into anyone. He's been trying to explain his motivation. From where I stand, it appears you don't like his explanation and don't like his motivation.

I think questions are valid and understandable, Nation 1ne. I also know that often a whole lot more water has gone under infraction and banning bridges than you guys know about and see on the surface. So asking why from the mods or the boards themselves is a tricky proposition and the answers inevitably merit being kept private.

So BuzzUk, let me get this straight. After your thinly veiled insults to me in this thread and to the mods in general over the last few days, you want to further insult me by saying I'm being defensive and borderline flaming and then ask for help? Well let me get this out of the way in case people don't understand since you think my example was playing politician. When one member looks at your profile, they see only some of it, actually a large portion. One thing they don't see is your infraction history. There are other things you don't get to see when you look at another member's profile too. Go pick a member who has been banned and look at their profile. Does it show the infraction or why they were banned?

If the owner wanted you to see it I bet he could change that setting. So why bother asking about it? We aren't going to make it public. For those who have infractions or warnings on their profile, they will understand the infraction/warnings area better. So I hope Nation 1 E and BuzzUK and others understand a little bit better. The example I gave was meant to be like looking into the details of someone's medical file. You might know they are a patient of the doctor because you spent time together in the waiting room, like being a member here, but you don't get to look into their folder or their user profile. You can go up to the receptionist and ask them why that patient is here but do you really expect them to answer?

I know you seem to think that you're entitled to knowing why a certain member was banned, but frankly, you're not. It's between the member and the mod(s). That's it. Like FBR said, if the owner wanted every overly curious member to know why so-n-so was banned, they'd make it available to see.

If they were available for all to see, I know for a fact there would be an increase in bitchiness, such as "why was _____ banned bla bla I hate you mods" type thing. To sum it up, it just keeps a more lax atmosphere around here.

And as far as that analogy was concerned, it was a pretty valid one buzz. I'd say buzz off if you refuse to comprehend what's being said here. OR, if you're feeling adventurous, continue pushing buttons and see where that gets you. :jointsmile:

My only issue was that I felt you were implying we shouldn't question mods, when we have every right to, and can do. I feel I've explained myself correctly if I haven't then I'm sorry. I ain't sitting here n' having my personality insulted though, especially when I've done nothing but have a high opinion of most if not all the mod's on this board. I wouldn't say I'm a disrespectful person, maybe too inquisitive for some peoples liking. However I don't expect be shafted down the throat with assumptions and BS like FBR's.

That's all fine and dandy, but the point is, we do not, by ANY means, have to explain our actions. At all.

No because the OP did get a reply and reason. Leading me to believe we will get some form of reply. I'm afraid to say the only way you will win is from abuse, no other way.

How quickly you forget Nation your first response in this thread was a response to It's a Plant telling him you are going to question things and for him to suck it up.

His judgement, sensibility, intelligence, respect and post history earned him his voluntary job a moderator but you feel like pestering him and others by answering questions you have no right to. When you become a mod, which doesn't look like that will happen, then you can question him and others all you want.

I think it is time to close this up.

I agree that questioning is fine and to be expected from intelligent, inquiring minds. Goodness knows I questioned stuff before I was a mod and still do now, both in my own actions and in that of others. I spent too long as a smart alec in my youth and as a writer/reporter in my adult life not to. In truth, I think questions keep us honest, keep our actions justifiable, and serve as a type of check-and-balance system, but we also have the rules and infraction system to serve the same purpose so we follow a set process in disciplining people and can see the embarrassing details of someone's history without it being made public and further embarrassing our "repeat offenders." It's the privacy of those people we're trying to protect, along with the integrity of the boards as a place for friendly discussion.

If everyone's fine with the fact that their questions won't always be answered, then I think we've arrived at a logical stopping point for this thread.

I don't feel like pestering him at all. I thought he would have appreciated me sticking up for our right of questioning authority. I was very wrong apparently. About the sucking it up thing, I said we all have to do it he isn't the only one. And as his voluntary job as a moderator I would have expected him to be used to questioning or be understanding about it (which he may be, I just didn't see why he was upset about it). It's different, if it's obvious the person is just trying to get a rise out of the mod by asking questions, but this wasn't the case. It was a polite question, not a harassment, or direct insult.

I really hope this doesn't change your opinion of me since I don't feel it should. I just feel I'm standing on steady ground here.

Where did I once go into detail about what that long list of infractions entailed? I just made it clear that there WAS a list of infractions, to at least make it known that he was not banned for no good reason; a mistake I now realize. I never once "explained" any infraction my man. Don't twist my words around into something they're not. ;)

From now on I think these types of threads where unnecessary curiosity about fellow members will simply be deleted from the get-go. All the gossip and hearsay that follows just doesn't belong here, period. I agree with the closing, too.

Wow... I fail to see how this became such a touchy issue.
The other moderators are correct that we do not need to justify bans to the membership as a whole, for a number of reasons:

-The ban really IS between the member and the administration
-If we had to make a thread every time someone was banned or even infracted, it would be a full time job.

I responded to the OP simply because it was an easy one and I had a bit of time; I'm sorry it caused such a shitstorm. I even said right in my original response that I didn't feel that I NEEDED to justify myself.

You guys just really have to trust that we as moderators try to be fair and give members not only warnings, but also the benefit of the doubt when circumstances call for it, before they are banned.
