Oldham officer charged with growing pot By Melissa Gagliardi

The Courier-Journal
Oldham County police Officer Gerald W. Colston has been charged with growing marijuana, the department said today.
State police investigated Colston and said he had grown four marijuana plants at rental property where he lived off Rose Island Road.
He was arraigned in Oldham County District Court this morning and released on his own recognizance.
Police Chief Michael Griffin had asked for his resignation, which he turned in Friday. Colston was the department??s only canine officer.
??This alleged misconduct is a disappointment to me and the other 29 officers in the Oldham County Police Department,? Griffin said. ??This is a very, very difficult time for all of us.?

He may have just been growing for the extra cash.
I did find it funny that he is the only canine officer on the force. Did the dog never bark when it smell cannabis, or was it barking constantly?
Life's little questions...

It's a shame that he got caught. It's always a shame when a grower gets caught, regardless of who it is I guess.

I hope he gets out of this okay, even if he is a cop, there ARE good cops out there.
Unless when he arrested people for possesion, he kept their weed to himself while allowing them to suffer unfair penalities. Then that's a shame.

Perhaps he "retrained" his dog not to bark for pot and a few pot smokers got a free pass?(Can you see someone, walking away to post here later about their "close call" and about how dumb the K9 was- lol)

They can't tax it to above the black market value, if they did the black market would flourish.

If the government legalized, they would most likely regulate all distribution. In turn, they would be mass producing crops in the best environments and conditions and probably the nicest strains. These would easily meet the demand and would come cheap due to the bulk. They really could "tax the shit out of it" and wayy undercut the street prices. I could really go on and on. I mean off topic their would be no more illegal drug sales and gangs would die off and street violence essentially ended. Not to mention the billions and billions of dollars the government would put right into their pocket simply by pullin the plug on their propoganda scare-tactic anti weed campain...and this..and that..ugh

We have state run liquor stores in washington. Is the selection "the nicest"? No. Is it decent? Yea. Would herb be any different? No. Would they have the best strains? No.

if it's legal it would likely be sold in shops specially designated to sell it, and trust me, with as much that is known about marijuana, there would be quite a variety of marijuana to choose from, the value of a flower that can be widely cultivated would be dirt cheap if it were legal, and the tax would account for most of it's expense..not to mention the fact that one of the main reasons for legalization is to take the profit out of the hands of drug dealers, and make it impossible to compete with prices..

have you been to cali and seen a store? sure there are nice choices but they rape you on price and there is NO tax yet. my grower buddy said any tax imposed would raise the price of his/her herb by as much as the tax if not more because of the additional accounting overhead. which is in essence what you see in cali. the grower still gets his/her price and the shop adds money to cover overhead. if the grower had to account for his/her herb, report on how much what quality, i guarantee prices wil go up. and guess what? there is a still a huge black market trade for herb in cali. why? because its cheaper!
my guess is that legalization would create situations like booze. some states have great selection and great prices while the communist, err, socialist, err state-run ones have shitty selection and crappy price.~

The med clubs are pricey because it's only semi legal. It's still illegal under fed law, and THATS why they keep getting busted.
They cant pay tax, coz technically it's not legal, and they keep the prices high because THEY'RE risking jail.
It doesnt sound like you really know what your talking about to be perfectly honest. Dont try to argue when your wrong.
According to your flag, your American. I'm English - you should know all this.

hahahahahahhhhhahjahahahahhah
So what do you think they funnel the extra loot into? Legal funds? LOLOLOLOL
Nah, it's that price because people will pay it. Prices are still less than on the east coast. It's just that even on the semi-legal pay places it's still more than black market. It's just that the selection is better because it's a co-op of sorts. The prices suck.
You may be right. I only know 4 people who make a living as cannabis producers. Maybe you know more. Only one is in Cali. Either way, they all say the prices are justified via work and efforts involved. My one buddy makes only 60k/year as a farmer. Its not exactly rich. If prices were to drop he would hafta increase production to pay bills. It ain't gonna happen.
It all comes down to the price of the tax. If its $10gram, most will stay black market. If its $1/gram, maybe you'll get people to cough up $450/lb. My one budd says thats $11k/year. That's a decent sized tax. Then you tax the 60k income by what? 30% on businesses? So, then the income that was 60k is now 40k but, he must charge 70k to be there? Get it yet? The grower still wants 60k/ year. Since he cant grow more he must charge more.
